Chapter 302: Chapter 302
"Isn’t that Young Master Rhodes?"
As Shannon Quinn was arguing with Landon Sutton, a man’s voice came from behind them.
Seth Fairchild approached with June Yardley, saying, "Long time no see."
Landon Sutton responded with a polite smile, not wanting to engage much with Seth, but out of courtesy, it was hard to just turn away. Chapters first released on N()velFire.net
June Yardley stood beside Seth, staying silent, but Shannon Quinn could sense her emotions through her gaze.
Claire Yardley had gone to jail for kidnapping Leo, and even though they brought it upon themselves, with June’s character, she would probably blame others for it.
Seth wasn’t an easy person to deal with either, and Shannon felt these two together wouldn’t amount to anything good.
Shannon always felt Seth’s gaze on her was strange, and his tone was a bit sarcastic. She really didn’t like the atmosphere and secretly tugged on Landon’s sleeve.
After exchanging some pleasantries with Seth, Landon put his arm around Shannon and left.
Shannon was indeed feeling a bit tired, and since Leo was still at home, they left the party early with Landon.
He seemed enchanted, calling her "Yana, Yana" all the way.
At first, she was furious, but later, she mockingly called him Nate in return.
Initially, there was bickering in the car, but eventually, she fell asleep, and the car finally quieted down.
Erin Bishop was indulging in the red wine there, sneaking a few more glasses when Zane Rhodes wasn’t looking.
She felt pretty good while drinking, but didn’t expect the alcohol to hit hard afterwards, as she sat there feeling dizzy, lying motionlessly.
"Rona?" Susan Wilde called after finishing a phone call, seeing Erin slumped over the table.
Unsure if Erin was drunk, Susan wanted to find someone to help but didn’t know who to ask.
She didn’t want to leave Erin alone, so she scanned the room and spotted Zane standing nearby.
Considering Rona’s awkward relationship with Zane, she hesitated to ask him for help, unsure if it would be appropriate.
But with Shannon gone, she didn’t know anyone else at the party, so after some thought, she headed towards Zane.
"Um... Rona seems to be drunk, could you go check on her?"
Zane furrowed his brow, glanced over to where Erin was, and said to the man he was chatting with, "Excuse me."
Then he hurried over to Erin.
He patted her shoulder, but got no response.
"How much did she drink?"
Susan thought for a moment, then replied, "About seven or eight glasses, I think."
Zane muttered helplessly, "This woman."
He bent over to try and pick Erin up, but as soon as he lifted her off the table, she began to mutter, "I want to sleep..."
"Sleep when we get back." Zane tried to communicate with her, but Erin collapsed onto the sofa without moving.
She was wearing a short dress, and Zane, exasperated, adjusted her dress, draped his coat over her lower half, and mustered his strength to pick her up off the sofa.
She whimpered uncomfortably, kicked her feet twice, and her heels fell to the floor. Susan bent down to pick them up as she followed behind.
Zane paused and said, "Give them to me."
Susan hung the shoes on Zane’s finger, then ran back to the sofa, "Her bag."
Zane waited for Susan to bring the bag over, made sure nothing was left behind, and left with Erin.
Now that both of her good friends had left, Susan wanted to leave too.
But since Shawn Rhodes hadn’t said he was leaving, she couldn’t go down the mountain on her own.
The later it got, the more lively the party became. Well-dressed men and women, some discussing business and others talking about love.
Simon Rhodes watched Susan sitting alone, wanting to go over to her a few times, but hesitated and just watched from a distance.
Susan leaned against the table, propping her head up, almost falling asleep.
In the unfamiliar setting, she didn’t dare let her guard down. She stood and searched through the crowd for Shawn, seeing him sitting with several people, drinking and talking, seemingly not planning to leave anytime soon.
Susan walked outside, where the night breeze sobered her up a lot.
Probably due to the cooler nighttime temperature, there were few people in the pool, most around its edges, eating and chatting in small groups.
Susan found a chair by the pool and sat down, looked at her injured foot, and took off her high heels. Standing barefoot on the ground, her ankles felt much more comfortable.
Now she just wanted to go home, take a shower, and sleep, though it looked like that wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
The clear blue pool, shimmering under the lights, looked as if diamonds lay beneath its surface.
"Shaw, I forgot my phone."
"On the table where we were just eating."
Upon hearing the distant conversation, Susan turned her head and saw Shawn Rhodes heading back to get Rowan Alder’s phone.
Rowan stood by the door, seemingly ready to leave.
But it seemed unlikely she’d be riding in Shawn’s car now.
Rowan greeted a passing acquaintance with a smile at the door, then suddenly noticed Susan by the pool, and their eyes met.
Seeing Rowan walk straight over, Susan put on her shoes and stood up from the chair.
"Bitch." Rowan’s voice reached her before she arrived.
Susan looked at Rowan, keeping a safe distance, while Rowan stopped a meter away, crossing her arms as she said, "Shaw never touches you after marriage, so you’re using any vile means now, aren’t you?"
Susan smiled, "As his wife, I think it’s only natural for me to do anything with him. Don’t you think, Miss Dixon?"
"Shameless! Shaw loves me. If it weren’t for your seduction, he wouldn’t even touch you!"
"You better find out from him exactly where you stand in his heart and where I stand." Susan knew how to gain the upper hand in a fight with Rowan. With just a few words, she had Rowan seething with anger.
Rowan glanced at the ballroom doors, then turned to Susan with a smile, "Then let’s see who Shaw cares about."
As Susan wondered what game Rowan was trying to play, she warily took a step back from the pool, not expecting Rowan to act unpredictably and jump into the pool herself.
"Help... cough, cough... help!"
