Chapter 298: Chapter 298
"What a fake! I saw through what kind of person you are a long time ago! You know he’s married, yet you blatantly come to someone’s home to do this! Even if your mom didn’t teach you how to behave, you should have some shame yourself! In the future..."
"Mom!" Shawn Rhodes harshly interrupted Mrs. Rhodes’ scolding.
Rowan Alder cried even more sorrowfully: "Auntie, please stop, I’m begging you. I just love Shaw, what’s wrong with that?"
Shawn Rhodes reached out to help wipe her tears, but Rowan Alder avoided his hand. Looking like a pair of tragic lovers, she said to Shawn: "Shaw, take good care of Miss Wilde. Let’s not meet again in the future..."
With that, she turned around, covering her mouth as she ran out crying.
Shawn Rhodes was about to chase after her, but Mr. Rhodes scolded him: "If you keep seeing this woman, then leave with her, and never come back! I’ll pretend I don’t have a son!"
Shawn Rhodes knew very well that if he impulsively chose to elope with Rowan Alder and ended up having nothing, how could he provide the life Rowan Alder wanted?
It would only make Rowan Alder suffer with him, and he knew she couldn’t bear a poor life. That’s why he agreed to this marriage, planning to build his career first and then marry her; she was only fit to be a princess.
He suppressed the resentment and anger inside him, letting Rowan Alder leave, but in the eyes he turned to Susan Wilde, there was an additional trace of disgust.
The meal was naturally ruined. The parents scolded Shawn Rhodes for a long time, but he just sat there without saying a word.
Susan Wilde saw off his parents and was immediately thrown onto the coffee table by Shawn Rhodes. The dishes on the table scattered and shattered on the floor. Susan Wilde was a bit afraid of him, but put on a calm front and looked at him.
"Did you purposely bring Mom and Dad here?" he asked, eyes bloodshot and questioning her, looking even scarier than the night he demanded she apologize to Rowan Alder.
Susan Wilde swallowed and said, "I ran into them at the corner and called you, but you didn’t pick up."
Shawn Rhodes recalled the call that Rowan Alder disconnected, looked at the unhealed wound on Susan Wilde’s temple, clenched his teeth, let go of her, stood up, picked up the car keys that had fallen on the ground, and slammed the door as he left.
Hearing the loud door slam, Susan Wilde shuddered involuntarily, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. She dared not even think what would happen if Shawn Rhodes found out she had deliberately invited his parents — would she end up back in the hospital, or perhaps not even make it there in time?
After tidying up the messy living room, Susan Wilde returned to her room, drew a bath, and lay in it.
Anyway, she considered this battle as won.
She knew Shawn Rhodes and Rowan Alder wouldn’t sever ties, but at least in this household, she found some peace.
After Rowan Alder left, she didn’t see Shawn Rhodes for several days.
Life seemed to become calm and peaceful.
She adopted a cat and kept it at home, so coming home from work every day, she didn’t feel as lonely.
That day while dining at a restaurant with Iris, she saw Shawn Rhodes with Rowan Alder. The two didn’t seem to have been greatly affected, just not as blatant as before.
At that moment, Iris was asking when she could meet her brother-in-law, and Susan Wilde didn’t dare look in the direction where Shawn Rhodes was, just finding excuses to dodge the question.
After Erin Bishop and Zane Rhodes got their marriage certificate, life didn’t change much.
This whole time, she hadn’t really seen Zane Rhodes, who only texted saying he got an unexpected job and hadn’t returned to the country yet.
Erin Bishop didn’t know whether this was true or just an excuse, but she didn’t let his matters weigh on her mind, just ate and drank as usual, not willing to let men’s issues hurt her anymore.
Shannon Quinn had gained quite some weight during this time, standing on the scale every day, distressed, while Landon Sutton continued to urge a nutritious diet every day.
He also said, "Have you ever seen a woman try to lose weight while pregnant?"
"But you can’t keep over-nourishing every day, look, my face is so round now. Yesterday at work, everyone said I’d gained weight!"
Landon Sutton pinched her face and said, "Isn’t that adorable?"
Shannon Quinn rolled over, sitting on him, pinching his face discontentedly: "Then why aren’t you adorable?!"
Landon Sutton merely moved her hands gently aside: "Stop messing around. You’re pregnant, so be careful. Sit properly!"
Shannon Quinn huffed, got up, ran to the bedroom, took out a pink notebook, and sat back next to Landon Sutton in the living room, saying, "I watched a movie yesterday."
Landon Sutton looked up from his book, glancing at her through his glasses, and said, "Tell me about it."
"It’s called ’The Notebook.’ I also want to write down everything about us so that if one of us gets old and forgets the other, they can look at the notebook and retell our stories every day!"
Landon Sutton immediately teased her, "It’ll definitely be me telling you because I see you’re already a bit forgetful, always forgetting things."
"Isn’t that because you keep cooping me up at home? Staying in touch with the outside keeps the brain active and prevents it from rusting!"
"After I’m done with work in a few days, I’ll take you out."
Shannon Quinn took the notebook and pen, walked to the desk where he usually worked, pushed aside his documents, and placed her notebook there, muttering, "By the time you’re done, our child will probably be born."
"I’m just trying to earn as much as possible before the baby’s born. With one person managing three kids after the birth, it’s going to be a lot of pressure on me."
Shannon Quinn rolled her eyes at him: "Do you have another illegitimate child outside?"
Landon Sutton chuckled, "In our family, we have a big daughter."
Watching her begin to write, he got up, turned on the desk lamp for her, then returned to the sofa to read his book.
As she wrote, Shannon Quinn suddenly looked up and asked him, "What if one day I really forget you?"
"Then I’ll get to know you again, pursue you again, and make you fall in love with me all over."
Shannon Quinn smiled sweetly, lowered her head, and continued writing, asking as she wrote, "What if you forget me?"
"Then I’ll look at you a few more times, and I’m sure I’ll recognize you."
"If you don’t recognize me, I’ll just take the chance to find a younger guy and remarry with Leo and our daughter."
Landon Sutton frowned at her, "You actually think that? Seems like keeping you at home is the right choice."
Shannon Quinn immediately backed down, "Oh, I was just kidding. I’ve an appointment with Rona and Skylar Vance to go shopping tomorrow!"
Landon Sutton just said, "Be back early in the afternoon, there’s an event in the evening." This text is hosted at novel·fire.net
"What kind of event?"
"You just go and enjoy the food."
"Can I bring my friends along to enjoy the food too?"
