Chapter 10: Chapter 10
Leila's POV.
We walked in the hall which was filled with a lot of people. I could sense that most were alphas and betas with their mates, the rest were lycans I guess from the pack. I couldn't smell my mate in the room and it made me nervous and a little bit angry.
"Can you see your mate?" Elana asked and I shook my head.
"Can you smell his scent?" Marcus asked and I glared at both of them.
"Nothing," I answered them plainly.
"Are you sure he as a lycan?"
"I am not the one who said he was a lycan, remember? I said I met him in the scenery which mom always dreamt of taking us to but both of you told me that it was part of the lycan's land" I told them, making them roll their eyes.
"Let us go to the table," Elan said as she led us to the table which was preserved for the beta's family of our pack.
It is a pity that I believed them. After they told me that the possibility of my mate being a lycan was high and that I could see him today, I was deliberately happy that I couldn't wait for the day to arrive but upon arrival, everything was dramatically the opposite. I couldn't understand anything or why life was playing a hide and seek game on me. Maybe I was just dreaming about yesterday but the fact that I could talk to my wolf reminded me once more that it was the reality. The sad validity that I had a second chance mate, that wasn't the sad thing but the thought that I didn't even know either his name or the pack he belonged to made me feel like an idiot that I have always been.
My eyes wandered around the room hoping to see his handsome face but the more I scanned and got nothing, the more wary I became.
"Leila, just come down a bit, maybe he hasn't arrived yet," Marcus said, making me shoot a glare to his side. "Hei, don't give me that look. It wasn't my fault that you didn't ask anything about him while he knew so much about you. What a shame!" he retorted, making me as if I should just kill him so that I can get my peace of mind.
"Don't tell her that. She is already feeling bad," Elana said.
"You spoil her too much. When will you let her behave like a grown woman?"
"Don't you dare start with me stupid man. It isn't my fault that you are the only child in your family. In my family, she is my one and only little sister and blood relative I have left in this world so how do you expect me not to spoil her? Just mind your mind and go entertain yourself with the men of your age over there," she said angrily.
By the look on Marcus face, I knew that he wasn't anticipating such a reaction from him due to his words. He looked remorseful but there was notway I was going to defend him. It's his fault in the first place.
"Excuse me, I would like to go to the washrooms," I told them as I stood up before they could prevent me.
"Look at what you have done."
They were both drama queens and at the same time, over protective over me. Truly, Marcus' words were all facts. How could I be so stupid and naive that I didn't ask my mate his name? How could I find him then in this huge kingdom?
I tried my best to prevent tears from running down but despite how strong I tended to be, they eventually escaped.
Without looking at the direction I was walking, I bumped into something, of course, I was so sure it wasn't a wall since how could a wall emerge at the centre of the corridor.
"I am truly sorry," I apologised without having the guts to look up.
Having heard the person scoff, it pained me cause that was a true definition that my apology wasn't accepted at all.
"How weak are you, young lady? Even after bumping into me, you still don't have the guts to look at me as you apologise? Is this how your pack teaches werewolves like you? If you can't even try to stand for yourself now, how can you protect yourself when you encounter an ambush?" the woman said coldly.
I was surprised that she was lecturing me because of not looking at her instead of ruining her dress. Nonetheless, her words reminded me that I was just a weakling who couldn't stand for her mother and herself when they were attacked. Couldn't stand up for myself when I was being bullied and rejected.
Shaking off the negative thoughts, I raised my head slowly to look at the woman in front of me. I found myself staring at a beautiful young lady who seemed to be my age. I was perplexed since I didn't expect the one who spoke to me with such words would be so young. I was looking forward to seeing an old or average woman.
"Oooh, look at that. She just raised her head," the woman next to her said mockingly.
"Shut up."
"Do you really know how much this dress costs?" she asked and I eyed her from head to toe.
One could tell it was from a designer company which means it should be very costly.
"I am sorry ma'am," I said.
"Don't you dare call me ma'am. Looking at me and my face, do I look like some old woman?" she asked arrogantly.
I honestly couldn't see why she had to be disgusted by old women while she herself will one day be old. However, how could I tell her that? She looked like a bully from how I could pinpoint it and also the fact that she was surrounded by some other girls who I think are her minions.
"Of course not. You are so young and so beautiful. I am even envious of you," I said.
"Then why did you just call me ma'am? Or do I look like your mother?"
Honestly speaking, at first, I had a good impression of her but from how things are turning out, I am starting to despise her because of her mere attitude and rudeness.
"No, you don't look like my mom and are you even slightly to resemble her. In our pack and school, we use ma'am when you are talking to someone whom we don't know their names and also to show respect to them," I explained hoping she would understand me.
"Wonderful. At least you know that an ugly and valuable person like you should respect me."
"Maddy, why are you still talking to her? Get rid of her so that we can go and sit down," another lady from behind her retorted more calmly than the others.
"This dress is worth 50000 dollars, pay up quickly so that my friends and I can leave."
"What did you just say?" I asked again cause I didn't think that dress could cost that much.
"She said 50,000 dollars bitch. Didn't you hear it or you have turned deaf?"
At that, her friends started laughing and I was starting to lose my temper.
"Who the hell do you think you are? And what kind of clothes cost that much? Is it made of gold or you are the moon goddess?" I asked sarcastically.
"How dare you talk to me in such a manner. I will be the queen soon," she said.
At last, I now know why she got the nerve and strength to start a fight and why she is arrogant.
"Kneel down to me and apologise and I will forgive you," she said, making me scoff.
Who do you think you are, Madeline? You will never become the Queen of the lycans!
