Chapter 98: Chapter 98

"YOU’RE KILLING me, Chu Wonhee."

Wonhee actually felt bad while looking down at Yejun who was (fake) crying while kneeling in front of her.

[I didn’t know he could be this dramatic...]

To be precise, Yejun was kneeling in front of her with his forehead pressed against her knee.

[But why is he holding my ankles...?]

Yejun had each of his hands carefully wrapped around each of Wonhee’s ankles.

His grip wasn’t tight or painful.

And it didn’t feel uncomfortable either.

But Wonhee was still worried.

[Why am I getting used to this kind of skinship this fast?!]

"You said you’d kiss me... Chu Wonhee is a liar... You’re not a law-abiding citizen..."

"Not kissing you isn’t breaking the law, though."

"You’re still a liar."

Yejun was speaking facts.

Even so, Wonhee refused to take full responsibility. Yes, she was being mean right now. But she didn’t want to lose to Yejun. "I said I’ll Guide you, but I didn’t say I’ll do it through kissing." She gently brushed her fingers through Yejun’s hair. "I’m Guiding you now, am I not?"

"Chu Wonhee is good at making excuses."

"Stop being childish," Wonhee scolded him. "Momo Unnie and Billie Unnie worked hard dolling me up for today’s event. If we kiss, my hair and makeup will get messy."

To be fair, it would be easy for her stylist to redo her hair and makeup.

[But I’d die from embarrassment because Momo Unnie and Billie Unnie would know that I made out with Yejun if ever.]

"My clothes might get wrinkled, too," Wonhee added, fighting her embarrassment with all her might. "After all, your hands were all over me when we k-kissed last time."

"My hands weren’t all over you," Yejun denied bluntly. "I made sure not to touch your–"

She immediately covered his mouth with her hand. "I k-know, okay?"

[And there goes his little crescent moon-like eyes again...]

Yejun really had the smile of a villain.

And Wonhee could feel that playful smile against the palm of her hand.

[But his eyes are really a bit red...]

"Are you hearing the Static, Yejun-ah?" Wonhee asked worriedly, removing her hand from covering Yejun’s mouth. "I’m sorry for being unprofessional. It’s easy to redo my hair and makeup, so..."

"Nah, I’m just pulling your leg, Wonhee-ya. I’m fine," Yejun said, standing up. Then he extended his hand to her. "Shall we?"

Wonhee was relieved that she had that skill.

It prevented her from trembling in front of the Big 4.

[They really look intimidating...]

Semi looked great in her navy pinstripe double-breasted suit with matching pants, and she completed her outfit with a pair of white soft bow slingback pumps.

Song Moonho, as usual, looked expensive in his tailored black three-piece crisp suit matched with a pair of polished black Oxfords.

Graham, on the other hand, looked a bit casual in his black velvet bomber jacket with a maroon shirt underneath, velvet straight-leg jeans, and a pair of casual leather shoes.

[They look more like celebrities than actual stars.]

"Hee-ya, as we agreed upon, Do Ahyeon already left using the car that your agency sent," Semi explained. "Do Ahyeon is with your stylist and manager. They’ll serve as a decoy, and they’re being escorted by my team so they’ll be safe." She then pointed at Yejun. "Me and that brat are your actual escorts for today. We’ll be using a normal car to avoid attention."

"We’ll be following closely behind you in a different car," Song Moonho added, smiling at Yool. "Gong Yool-ssi will be with me."

"Me, too," Graham said, almost whining. "I’ll be in the same car as Yool."

Yool rolled his eyes. "I should have gone with Ahyeonnie..."

"You’re an important informant," Song Moonho said cheerfully. "We must protect you, Yool-ssi~"

Yool could only sigh in defeat.

"Let’s get moving," Semi said, ignoring the chaotic trio that was Yool, Graham, and Song Moonho. "Soobin and Geon are already in the Blue House."

Wonhee smiled and nodded. "Okay, Unnie. I’ll be in your care."

"Semi Noona, did Soobin Hyung bring that?" Yejun asked in a serious tone. "The Crack Detecting Device."

As its name suggested, it was a device used by APA and the private guilds to warn them if Cracks were supposed to burst open in their areas.

The most accurate Crack Detecting Device would be the one made by Soobin, of course.

"There’s a Crack Detecting Device in the Blue House, and Soobin also brought his own device. We talked before I went here, and he said the device hasn’t picked up any sign of a Crack bursting open," Semi said. "Why?"

"My senses are acting up," Yejun said indifferently. "I think a Special-Grade Crack is threatening to burst open. Not now, but soon."

Nobody questioned Yejun’s words.

"Alright. Thanks for telling us, maknae-ah," Semi said, nodding. Then she turned to Graham and Song Moonho. "Tell your guilds to prepare for a Special-Grade Crack that might appear soon."

[Are Yejun’s senses better than a Crack Detecting Device?]

Wonhee was once again amazed by Yejun’s capability.

[Yejun is really Korea’s strongest Hunter.]

IT WAS a luxurious van that was big enough even for three grown-ass men.

Yool wondered why Graham and Song Moonho decided to sit in the backseat with him.

So, now, he was sandwiched between the two S-Class Hunters.

"What are you doing to a poor Civilian like me?" Yool complained, sighing. "Don’t you know that I’ll die if the car suddenly stops, and you accidentally elbowed me, huh?"

"Yool-ssi, my driver is a good driver," Song Moonho said cheerfully. "And I’ll protect you if anything happens."

"Old man, you’re the most dangerous thing here," Graham said, wrapping an arm around Yool’s waist and pulling him close to his side. "Come here, Yool-ah."

Yool turned to Graham with dead eyes. "Your hand, please."

"What’s wrong with my hand placement?" Graham asked "innocently," squeezing Yool’s waist lightly. "I’m just trying to secure you so you wouldn’t get hurt accidentally in case the car suddenly stops, Yool-ah."

Yool was too lazy to argue with a stubborn guy like Graham, so he just let him do whatever he wanted.

[Graham will only tease me more if I react "cutely," so ignoring him is better.]

"Do you want me to help you file a sexual harassment case against Graham, Yool-ssi?" Song Moonho asked, smiling. "I’m already helping you find the burglars who robbed your place last night, so might as well help you put that pervert in jail."

[This old bastard...]

"Yool-ah, your place was robbed?" Graham asked worriedly. "Were there valuable items stolen?"

"It’s fine," Yool assured Graham. "I’m already poor, so losing a few items won’t make a difference. I’m still poor at the end of the day."

"Then move in with me," Graham said firmly. "I’ll take care of you, Yool-ah."

"Graham-ah, you don’t have to worry about Yool-ssi," Song Moonho said playfully. "Yool-ssi is already staying at my hotel."

The air suddenly turned colder than it already was.

Graham and Song Moonho were obviously sizing up each other, and would have probably ended up fighting if Yool wasn’t there.

[At least they remember I’ll die if they so much as release their bloodlust.]

Yool could only shut his eyes tight and massage his temples.

[Why are they fighting over me anyway?]

YEJUN was relieved that their group reached the Blue House without a hitch.

The decoy trick worked because the reporters and the Civilians waiting outside ran after the luxury van that Do Ahyeon was driving.

That allowed their car to enter the secret entrance without getting noticed.

And, now, they were inside the Blue House.

[The aura of the Crack that I felt earlier started to weaken the nearer we got here.]

"Welcome, Miss Chu," Kwon Jiwoong greeted Wonhee, and then he greeted the Big 4 while ignoring Gong Yool– the only Civilian there. "Before we head straight to the conference room..."

Yejun raised an eyebrow when Kwon Jiwoong made way for the fake carnivore.

Yes, Wonhee’s ex-boyfriend was there with some nameless Hunters.

Yejun noticed that Lee Seodam held handcuffs that looked very familiar to him.

Those handcuffs were made from Mana Crystals that could drain a Hunter’s Mana.

Those were the same handcuffs that Song Moonho used to apprehend Yejun a year ago.

[Those handcuffs are the weakness of the Big 4.]

"Hwang Frost-ssi, APA implores you to wear these handcuffs during the press conference," Lee Seodam explained. "The Civilians are still afraid of an X-Class Hunter like you, so APA decided to put them at ease by showing that Hwang Frost-ssi is under our control."

"Since there are VIP guests present as well, we must do this to make them feel safe here," Kwon Jiwoong added. "You can take them off after the press conference, Hwang Frost."

Yejun rolled his eyes.

To be honest, the handcuffs were uncomfortable so he really didn’t want to wear them.

[But Wonhee likes law-abiding citizens, so might as well endure it for a few hours.]

Yejun offered his hands slowly. "Fine–"

"I’m sorry, but Yejun doesn’t need those handcuffs."

Everyone turned their heads to Wonhee.

Then Wonhee gently patted Yejun’s hands as if she was asking him to put them down.

Of course, Yejun obliged and dropped his arms to his sides instead of offering his hands to Lee Seodam like he intended to do earlier.

"Yejun doesn’t need handcuffs because I’m here to make sure he won’t snap," Wonhee said firmly, standing in front of Yejun protectively. "And if those "VIP" guests are too afraid of an X-Class Hunter, then what are they doing here? Please ask them to leave if they’re that worried about their safety, President Kwon."

Yejun covered his mouth with his hands to hide his goofy grin.

It was cute how Wonhee stood in front of Yejun, even though her petite frame did nothing to hide Yejun. And the best part? Wonhee did that while berating Kwon Jiwoong in the calmest and softest voice ever.

[Wonhee is protecting me...]

It felt surreal for Yejun to be protected by someone way, way, way weaker than him.

Surreal, in a good way.

[Even my family stopped protecting me when I became the strongest.]

And, yet, Wonhee did.

Was that the reason why Yejun’s heart was beating faster and louder than usual?

APA was always right.

APA was the symbol of peace and order.

If Wonhee went back in time and told herself, a Civilian, that she would be talking back to President Kwon Jiwoong soon, her Civilian version would probably scold her.

But she didn’t like how APA was treating Yejun.

"Miss Chu, you have to understand," Kwon Jiwoong said, approaching Wonhee. "There are protocols that we need to follow for the sake of..." The source of this content ɪs Nov3lFɪre.ɴet

The APA President trailed off.

It was because Semi, Graham, and Song Moonho quickly stood in front of Wonhee as if they were protecting her from President Kwon Jiwoong.

Wonhee felt the crushing pressure that Semi, Graham, and Song Moonho released without saying a word.

In just the blink of an eye, Kwon Jiwoong was forced to kneel down.

And it wasn’t only the APA President who was crushed by the pressure.

Even Lee Seodam and the other Hunters fell to their knees.

Wonhee thought her knees would buckle even with her activated.

But she found herself leaning against Yejun’s solid body behind her.

And Yejun’s hands on Wonhee’s shoulders helped her keep her balance, hence she remained standing.

"Kwon Jiwoong, be careful," Yejun said in a quiet voice– quiet but chilling. And then he covered Wonhee’s ears with his hands. "If you keep fucking around, you’ll be walking on thin ice soon."
