Chapter 83: Chapter 83
"OUR MAKNAE entered a dungeon illegally?"
Wonhee only realized that she said it out loud when Graham asked, then the S-Class suddenly burst out laughing.
[Uhm, isn’t he worried...]
"It seems like our maknae is well enough to enter dungeons now," Graham said while nodding approvingly. "That means your Guiding is really effective, Chu Wonhee. It’s not that I don’t trust you or your abilities. It’s just that for years, only Ahn Kisoo was able to stop the Static in my head."
She was glad that Graham brought that up first.
[I can worry about Yejun later.]
"Thank you for the trust, Graham-ssi," Wonhee said politely, and then she turned to Tannie who was comfortably sitting on her shoulder. "Tannie, can you let me know right away if Yejun is in trouble? I want to focus on guiding Graham-ssi, but I also can’t ignore Yejun’s state."
"Don’t worry, Chu Wonhee!" Tannie said confidently. "I can guard you here while keeping an eye on Hwang Yejun! I’m a great man!"
That made Wonhee smile.
[I remember Yejun saying that Tannie is only a five-year-old kid, and I believe him. Tannie acts like a kid most of the time, after all.]
"You’re really loved by the System, Chu Wonhee."
"It has its benefits, but I’m sure there’s a catch," Wonhee said carefully as she turned to Graham again. "I’m preparing for the day that the System asks me to pay for all the things it has given me and the people around me."
The fact that Tannie didn’t say anything could be a sign that Wonhee was correct in her assumption.
[I’m not that naïve– I know the System’s favor doesn’t come for free.]
"That’s wise of you, Chu Wonhee," Graham said, smiling while giving her a thumbs up. "It’s okay to be grateful to the System, but don’t lower your guard– always question its intention, especially when it’s being nice to you. I’m sorry for saying depressing stuff, but in the kind of world we have right now, we can’t simply trust the thing that’s probably related to the Cracks."
Wonhee smiled and nodded. "I understand, Graham-ssi." She paused for a moment before she decided to speak her mind a bit. "And Graham-ssi doesn’t sound as dumb as you claim to be. We’ve only been talking for a few minutes, but I’m already learning a lot from you."
Graham beamed as if he was proud of himself. "Now you’ve inspired me to use my brainpower a bit." He closed his eyes and began to massage his temples. "So, in the , all I have to do is sleep while you’re in close proximity to receive your Guiding. But I have to sign the Guestbook first and sign a contract that protects you. The terms of the contract are slightly unfavorable to me, but it doesn’t matter since I have no intention of hurting or touching you inappropriately anyway."
"You got it, Graham-ssi," Wonhee said while clapping her hands. "You don’t need me to explain it to you, after all."
"Well, that’s not really the part that I don’t understand," Graham said, and then he opened his eyes. "But never mind. It looks like you don’t also know why the System favors you, Chu Wonhee."
[Ah, so that’s the part he’s curious about.]
"Oh, I’m curious about another thing, though."
"What is it, Graham-ssi?"
"I wonder how the System will react if I attack you before I sign the contract."
Graham smiled cheekily, and then he snapped his fingers.
Wonhee gasped out loud when a small red fireball appeared– and flew towards her immediately as if it wanted to burn her to ashes.
At the same time, her Status Window popped up.
And that was the sole reason why Wonhee didn’t faint from shock or fear.
Moreover, she didn’t actually have to worry about her safety because the red fireball hit an invisible barrier.
"How dare you try to hurt Chu Wonhee in my presence?!"
Tannie went feral on Graham and hit the natural S-Class Hunter on the forehead.
Graham let out a painful groan while rubbing his forehead. "Ouch. I just wanted to see how the System would protect Chu Wonhee in the . Just so you know, not everyone would want to sign a contract with the System. But I’m glad that you’re safe here, Chu Wonhee. And I’m sorry for suddenly attacking you to test my theory."
Ah, so Graham already expected that the System would protect her.
"Please let me know in advance next time," Wonhee said, smiling. "And you don’t mind if I tell Yejun and my siblings about this, do you? I hate to tattle, but this is something that they should know."
Graham gulped nervously. "O-Of course. You can tell them. I deserve to be punished. After all, I should really begin using my brain before I act."
"I’m not going to tattle for you to get punished, Graham-ssi," Wonhee explained gently. "I’m just going to inform Yejun and my siblings that I found a way to turn my into a weapon~"
Graham just smiled, obviously confused.
She didn’t offer an explanation, though.
[Graham-ssi is smart, so he’ll figure it out on his own.]
"Tannie, come here," Wonhee said to Tannie who hadn’t stopped "stomping" on Graham’s head yet. Fortunately, the tangerine fairy calmed down and went back to her side. She carried Tannie on her palm and gently stroked his "head." "Thank you for protecting me, Tannie."
As expected, Tannie looked so proud of himself. "You can always count on me, Chu Wonhee!"
She just smiled and nodded, and then she turned to Graham again.
[He suddenly fell silent, after all...]
And, as expected, Graham had already turned pale while covering his ears with his hands.
[He must be hearing the Static again.]
"Graham-ssi, I’m sorry to ask this. But I need you to decide now while you’re still a bit sober," Wonhee said apologetically. "Would you like to sign a contract with me for your Guiding?"
"It’s not a bad deal," Graham said, chuckling. Then he raised his head and stared blankly into the air as if he were looking at his Status Window. "The perks that come with signing a contract with you are too good to be true– but also too tempting to resist, Chu Wonhee."
Yejun sneered when he finally found the thing that was causing the nonstop rain in that dungeon.
It was located in the eye of the tsunami that appeared out of nowhere.
The empty river that greeted Yejun and Song Moonho was swallowed by a sinkhole. And then a huge volume of water suddenly erupted from it.
And then they were almost swept away by a tsunami.
Of course, Yejun froze the tsunami before it even hit them.
The problem was the volume of the water. It was too huge for his current state. But he had no other choice since Song Moonho didn’t have any intention of helping.
[That old bastard is just here to watch.] Original content can be found at N0v3l.Fiɾe.net
Hence, Yejun had to push himself to the limit. Freezing that huge volume of water almost drained his Mana. He could also almost hear the Static in his head.
[I might need Chu Wonhee’s Guiding later.]
"It’s the rain, maknae-ah 1 ."
"I know, old man," Yejun said. "I already found the source."
He then punched the ice and grabbed the pearl that he saw.
The pearl was as big as a baseball.
[I wonder if Wonhee likes pearls. I’ve seen her wear a pearl headband once. But most of the jewelry I’ve seen her wear is gold.]
"Are you thinking of bringing that as a souvenir for Miss Chu?" Song Moonho asked, appearing out of thin air next to him. Since the huge wave had already been frozen, the two of them were able to stand on top of the ice without needing to levitate. "Gemstones from dungeons one are usually corrupted, though."
"Let’s see if I could purify this thing first," Yejun said, his eyes glowing while his hand holding the huge pearl started to emit fog that was similar to fog coming off of a block of dry ice. "This is the heart of the dungeon, isn’t it?"
"That’s correct, maknae-ah," the old man confirmed. "Had Graham entered this dungeon in his current condition, he would have been drowned to death by the tsunami that you froze so easily."
Yejun didn’t freeze it "easily."
The wave that he had frozen with his ice had a maximum height of two hundred feet. It was smaller than the megatsunamis he had frozen in the past. But, in his current state, he had to say that he still did a good job.
But that didn’t mean it was easy.
"It only looked easy because I am that good," Yejun said bluntly. He didn’t tear his gaze away from the pearl in his hand. Ah, it didn’t look pretty anymore. The brilliant pear earlier had been turned into a crystal ball. "Nah, this ain’t good enough to be a souvenir for Wonhee."
"Does it matter?" Song Moonho said, and then he looked up. "Ah. Our maknae didn’t go anywhere 1 despite being locked up in a basement for a year."
The old man said that because the rain started to turn into snow.
In short, Yejun had completely taken over the dungeon.
It was a successful raid.
But the System remained quiet.
[This feels ominous.]
"Song Moonho, what’s the name of this Crack?"
"It doesn’t have a name."
Yejun let out a frustrated sigh. "Who wants Graham dead?"
Song Moonho chuckled, but he nodded in agreement. "This dungeon has already been raided. Hence, there are neither monsters nor treasures here. But, somehow, this Crack still burst open in Graham’s territory– right when he hasn’t fully recovered yet. Worse, this type of Crack is a bad match for that kid." The old man turned to him. "Doesn’t it remind you something, maknae-ah?"
"I know. If we didn’t have Wonhee, then Graham would have already become the second X-Class Hunter..." he trailed off, and then he glared at the old man. "You lied again. There’s no dragon here!"
Graham’s matter was important.
But the dragon meat Yejun wanted to offer to Wonhee was more important to him!
"There was a dragon here," Song Moonho said, smiling. "But it was stolen by whoever raided this dungeon first."
"You talk as if the dragon was yours in the first place, maknae-ah."
"Whatever. Just find those thieves for me. I’ll take that as my payment for doing the entire job here."
"How can I find them? I don’t have abilities related to finding people."
"Drop the act, old man," Yejun said, scoffing. "You’re related to Pineappel, aren’t you?"
’Pineapple’ was a prominent member of the rebel group ’The Watchdogs’ known for having "eyes" everywhere.
[And Pineapple was the person who blackmailed me a few days ago.]
Anyway, the old man looked shocked by Yejun’s accusation at first.
And then Song Moonho laughed.
"Maknae-ah, since when did you get this smart?"
Yejun trailed off when his Status Window suddenly popped up.
APA Hunters are waiting outside the crack to arrest you, spawn of Satan!>
[This was written by the talking orange, right?]
"Ah, it seems like we’ve been caught already, maknae-ah," Song Moonho said, staring blankly into the air, probably reading the message in his Status Window. "I wonder who has the guts to arrest us, though."
Yejun wanted to say that he wouldn’t let him get caught by APA again, but the familiar annoying noise suddenly rang in his head– causing him to cover his ears with his hands while his eyes were shut tight.
[The Static is making me go insane again...!]
