Chapter 169: Chapter 169
Wonhee thought it was funny to see Yejun sitting on the sofa while crocheting.
She was about to tease him and say that he looked like someone’s grandma, but she soon forgot about it when she realized that Yejun was wearing glasses.
[He looks so hot in glasses...!]
"Ah, it seems like I found Wonhee’s new fetish," Yejun teased Wonhee, adjusting his glasses with a long and elegant finger. "Do I look good in glasses, Wonhee-ya?"
Wonhee definitely blushed at his teasing. "What are you saying in front of a child?"
"Is the child in the room with us?"
"Hwang Frost-nim is right, Noona," Ahyeon said, embarrassed. "Twenty-one years old isn’t a child..."
She knew that, but she couldn’t help it.
"It’s alright," Yejun said, putting his crochet stuff back to his Inventory. "We adopted Ahyeon as our ’son,’ so it makes sense that you see him as a child."
Wonhee looked at Yejun in disbelief. "You’re saying nonsense again."
Yejun just shrugged, then he got up and stood next to her. "I thought you were going to visit Gong Yool? Is he still asleep?"
"Song Moonho-sso is there," she explained. "Will it be alright, Yejun-ah? Song Sunho tried to kill Yool. And we know that Song Moonho spoils his brother a lot. He’s not going to hurt Yool, is he?"
"You already left Gong Yool alone with Song Moonho, so I believe you already deem it safe for your best friend."
"I just want your validation that I made the right decision."
"Yep, you did," Yejun said, nodding. "But even if you didn’t, I’ll make it right for you."
[I don’t know if I should be relieved or what...]
Hence, she just changed the topic.
"Yejun-ah, can you teach Ahyeonnie how to use his barrier more effectively?"
"Sure, if that’s what you want, Wonhee-ya," Yejun agreed right away, and then he turned to Ahyeon. "Then, my son, tell me— aside from sturdiness, what quality does a barrier have to have in order to be considered effective?"
Ahyeon’s face turned red as if he was embarrassed. "Uhm, i-it’s, uh—"
Wonhee gasped out loud when Yejun suddenly threw an ice dagger at Ahyeon.
That dagger grazed Ahyeon’s shoulder, and then the ice dagger immediately melted.
"Hwang Yejun!" Wonhee scolded Yejun. "What did you do that for?"
"I just tested the baby herbivore’s reaction speed," Yejun said, shrugging. "Had I aimed for his heart, he would have died on the spot."
Wonhee was too horrified to say anything.
Ahyeon, on the other hand, turned red as if he was embarrassed.
"Do Ahyeon, you’re an S-Class Hunter now. Although your promotion has been kept a secret from the public, I’m sure it already spread among other Hunters. That means you’ll be targeted soon— that’s the life of an S-Class Hunter, after all," Yejun said, crossing his arms over his chest. "Hence, you should wear your barrier like a second skin all the time."
"B-But how about using my barrier to protect other people?" Ahyeon asked hesitantly, his hand pressed against his bleeding shoulder. "T-That’s what I want to learn about..."
"Are you stupid?" Yejun scoffed at Ahyeon. "How do you expect to protect other people when you can’t protect yourself?"
Wonhee frowned at Yejun’s harsh words.
But she knew that he was right, so she could only keep her mouth shut.
[I also wish for Ahyeon to learn how to protect himself first.]
"How can you protect your precious people when you’re already dead?" Yejun continued scolding Ahyeon. "Baby herbivore, if you want to quickly learn how to use your barrier to protect other people first, then I’m afraid I’m not fit to be your teacher."
Ahyeon’s face turned red, but his eyes were determined. "I-I’d like to learn from you, Hwang Frost-nim. I apologize for my wrong mindset. Please give me another chance..."
"I will— if you do what I want first."
"Call me ’hyung,’" Yejun said, pointing at his face. "I’d like to ask you to call me ’Abeoji,’ but we can do that once Wonhee and I are married."
[He’s saying nonsense again...]
Wonhee was about to scold Yejun, but Ahyeon suddenly opened his mouth.
"I-I understand, H-Hyung-nim," Ahyeon said shyly, and then he bowed towards Yejun politely. "P-Please take care of me from now on."
"Sure," Yejun said, and then he turned to Wonhee with a triumphant smile on his face. "I think I gained our son’s respect, Wonhee-ya."
"Stop it, Hwang Yejun," Wonhee scolded Yejun (whose shoulders slumped after getting nagged). "Let’s treat Ahyeon’s wound first before you start your training."
[WHY ISN’T he saying anything?]
Yool actually expected Song Moonho to be thrilled that he was willing to share his secret with him now.
Hence, he didn’t expect the old man’s silence.
[Is he no longer interested?]
"Gong Yool-ssi, don’t trust me too much."
"I don’t," Yool said, scoffing. "And that’s why I’m offering you a deal. I can’t trust your words, but having a contract with you will give me peace of mind."
Song Moonho fell silent for a moment, and then he finally sat on the chair next to the bed. It was as if the old man realized that they needed to have a long and serious talk. "Didn’t you hear what I said earlier? I already apologized to you, and it seems like you already know what I apologized for. How did you even know that in the first place? You act as if you know me more than I know myself."
"Everyone in the country knows that you love your younger brother too much," Yool said, shrugging. "That’s how I connected the dots. You were willing to go against the Big 4 just to protect Song Sunho from Graham. Even though you knew that your stupid brother harassed Ahn Kisoo many times, you turned a blind eye."
The old man’s face darkened, but Yool continued.
[Ahjussi needs a reality check, after all.]
"I’m just someone you find interesting at the moment, but I’m sure I’m not someone you’ll choose over Song Sunho," Yool said nonchalantly. "In fact, even if your brother succeeded in killing me, I bet you’ll only be sad for a while. Then you’ll move on quickly and cover up Song Sunho’s yet another crime. Unfortunately for you, Wony won’t sit still if anything bad happens to me. So, you better hide your precious little brother properly this time." ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ noᴠelfire.net
The old man fell silent for a moment.
It looked like Ahjussi was in deep thought, but it was also obvious that he was displeased because of the frown on his face.
[I should be the one getting upset here and not him...]
"You’re hurting my feelings, Yool-ssi."
"You think lowly of my feelings for you."
"Your feelings for me are shallow, Ahjussi."
"And who are you to decide that?"
"You already chose your brother over me," Yool reminded Song Moonho, lightly touching the bandage around his neck. "You’re only here to say goodbye to me, and then you’ll disappear in order to find your brother before APA or someone else does. And then you’ll hide Song Sunho, hence you’ll have to hide for a while, too."
That was what happened in the novel after Song Sunho successfully framed Ahn Kisoo.
Graham broke into the Autumn Guild in order to save his Guide. And when Graham was about to kill Song Sunho, Song Moonho appeared and saved his little brother.
The Song Brothers disappeared for quite some time.
[Then stupid Song Sunho escaped from Song Moonho’s protection and tried to abduct Ahn Kisoo again. That was when Graham finally killed the bastard.]
And that was also when Song Moonho finally became a villain in the novel.
[Why do I only remember useless stuff?]
"You’re mistaken, Yool-ssi."
"It’s true that I’m desperate to find Song Sunho," Song Moonho said in a serious tone. "But I have no intention of hiding him this time."
"I’ll bring him to you and make him beg for your forgiveness."
"It’s true that I turned a blind eye to a lot of horrible things that Song Sunho did," Song Moonho admitted. "However, I can’t bring myself to let this one slide." The old man’s gaze fell on Yool’s neck. "When I confirmed that my brother escaped from his house and the possibility that it was really him who tried to kill you increased, I was enraged. For the first time in a while, I felt the urge to beat Song Sunho to a pulp."
For some reason, Yool felt... uhm, he really couldn’t understand his feelings at the moment.
[Does Ahjussi really care for me this much?]
Song Moonho’s eyes found Yool’s face again. "Yool-ssi, I apologized to you because it was the right thing to do. What makes you think that I’ll choose Song Sunho over you?"
Yool said the first excuse that came to his mind. "Uhm, isn’t blood thicker than water?"
"I prefer the other version of that saying."
"The other version goes ," the old man said. "’The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water in the womb.’ That means I’m choosing the bond that I’ve formed than those formed by blood relations this time."
"You weren’t like that before, Ahjussi."
"I know, right?" Song Moonho agreed with him while nodding. "I only had these thoughts after my brother tried to kill you, Gong Yool. If it was another person, even if it was Chu Wonhee, I would have still chosen to protect Song Sunho. But you’re different, Yool-ssi— you’re the only person I can’t bring myself to abandon."
Yool avoided Song Moonho’s heated gaze because he was being too serious. Hence, he joked. "What a shame. I almost shared my secret with you."
"I already know what your secret is anyway."
"You’re not the real Gong Yool," Song Moonho said bluntly. "The Gong Yool and Chu Wonhee in the blurred memories in my head are older than you are at the moment."
"What blurred memories?" Yool asked, turning to Song Moonho with knitted eyebrows. "And what do you mean by an older Chu Wonhee?"
Song Moonho smiled slyly. "Should we exchange secrets now, Gong Yool-ssi?"
