Chapter 152: Chapter 152
"NOONA, that person is trying to freeze me with his cold gaze!"
"Why is Wonhee your ’noona’ when she’s your mother’s younger sister? Cheeky brat."
Wonhee, who was busy reading the script for her upcoming drama while sitting on the fancy rocking chair with a well padded seat, raised her head.
The first thing she saw was Ahyeon pouring juice into the glass.
She was reading the script in the garden.
Hence, Ahyeon prepared some snacks for her even if he didn’t have to.
"Would you like more snacks, Noona?" Ahyeon asked. "I can ask the chef to make some for you."
The chef in Semi’s house was an A-Class Culinary Hunter.
Wonhee smiled and shook her head. "No, thank you. I’m already full."
She then glanced at Yejun who was blocking the door to prevent Eunseok– Semi’s son– from entering the terrace.
[Why is he bullying my nephew?]
"Yejun-ah, what are you doing?"
"Your nephew is interesting, Wonhee-ya," Yejun said, and then he looked over his shoulder to look at her. "He’s not scared even though he’s facing an X-Class Hunter. As expected of Witch Noona’s son, this kid is tough."
Wonhee laughed softly because she found it cute that Yejun was acting like a child who found his very first playmate. "Eunseok’s mother is a member of the Big 4, and he often hangs out with Soobin Oppa, too. I guess that improved his natural fear resistance as a Civilian?"
"That makes sense. My Wonhee is really smart," Yejun said cheerfully, and then he turned to Eunseok again. "Kid, you’re a vertebrate."
Eunseok looked offended.
"That’s a compliment, Eunseok-ah," Wonhee said before her nephew picked a fight with Yejun. Eunseok had a nasty temper, after all. "Yejun calls brave and strong Civilians that way."
Fortunately, Eunseok’s face beamed. "Yeah, I’m a vertebrate."
[It’s a good thing that my nephew is weak to compliments.]
"You’re Hwang Frost Hyung, aren’t you? My eomma often says you’re the black sheep of the Big 4."
"I really don’t want to hear that from Witch Noona."
"Why do you call my mother a ’witch?’ That’s rude!"
"Kid, your mother almost killed me several times by making me drink her newly brewed potions. You should be glad I didn’t sue your mom." Thɪs chapter is updatᴇd by n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟f͟i͟r͟e͟.net
"On behalf of our family, I apologize for my mother’s misdemeanor."
Wonhee found Yejun and Eunseok’s silly interaction funny.
[They act as if they’re the same age.]
Wonhee looked up at Ahyeon and got worried when she saw the worried look on his face. "Yes, Ahyeonnie?"
Ahyeon showed his phone’s screen to Wonhee. "Our guildmaster asked if you’re free to talk today, Noona."
SINCE Wonhee didn’t feel like going out during her rest day, she just invited Guildmaster Hamin to her older sister’s house.
She got Semi’s approval, of course.
Hence, right now, Wonhee was in the main drawing room of the annex building with Yejun (who was sitting next to her). Hamin and Ahyeon were sitting side-by-side on the sofa across from them.
[Eunseok already left to study with his friends at the library.]
"Chu Wonhee, where is Bitna?"
[Hamin-ssi is still as straightforward as ever.]
Wonhee gulped hard, her hand shaking a bit because Hunter Hamin’s gaze was quite intimidating.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, her Status Window had to pop up right then.
[Cabbage Kid: Don’t tell Hamin where you found me.]
Wonhee gulped again, feeling pressured.
[What’s the beef between these two anyway?]
"Hyung, don’t scare my Wonhee," Yejun complained to Hamin. "Speak gently, okay? Gently."
Hamin looked at Wonhee with a blank look on his face. "Chu Wonhee, do I sound scary? Should I talk to you like how I speak to a child?"
"No, please don’t treat me like a child," Wonhee said, embarrassed. "And please don’t listen to Yejun."
"I thought so," Hamin said, glancing at Yejun. "Stay out of this, Hwang Yejun."
"I have the contract with the terms that we agreed upon in exchange of Do Ahyeon’s contract," Hamin reminded Wonhee in a monotonous voice. "So, let me ask again. Where is Bitna?"
Wonhee almost forgot that she made that deal with Hamin.
[What should I do now? Yejun told me that Bitna didn’t want Hamin-ssi to find out that she was stuck in the dungeon. And Bitna just asked me not to tell Hamin-ssi the truth.]
"Hyung, have you considered the possibility that the person you’re looking for doesn’t want you to find her?" Yejun asked Hamin in a serious tone. "As you already know, the person you’re looking for is still alive. And she’s doing well– I can tell you that much. Is that not enough for you?"
Wonhee realized that Yejun was trying to deal with the situation.
[He knows I’m in a pinch, after all.]
"Hwang Yejun, have you met Bitna as well?"
"Uh-huh. She’s like a chihuahua– small and always angry."
Hamin nodded as if Yejun just stated a fact. "That’s her, alright."
Wonhee started to wonder.
[Just how does Hamin-ssi see Bitna?]
"A deal is still a deal, though," Hamin said bluntly, looking at Wonhee meaningfully. "I want to know where Bitna is."
[Hamin-ssi is right– I used Bitna in order to win Ahyeonnie’s contract.]
"If it’s hard for you to say it, then just answer this question," Hamin said, pausing for a moment before he opened his mouth again. "Chu Wonhee, is Bitna still trapped in the dungeon?"
Wonhee was able to maintain a poker face.
It was obvious that Hamin already knew the truth.
[He just wants me to confirm it for him.]
Her thoughts were interrupted when her Status Window suddenly popped up.
[Cabbage Kid: I don’t want to put you in a difficult position, Wonhee-ya. It seems like Hamin isn’t as dumb as I thought. So, feel free to answer his questions or share what you know about me.]
Ah, that made Wonhee feel guilty.
[I’ll apologize to Bitna later for using her to make a deal with Hamin-ssi.]
"You’re right, Hamin-ssi," Wonhee said, clenching her hands. "I met Bitna in a dungeon."
Hamin’s expression was heart-wrenching.
[Why does he look so... devastated?]
Even Yejun looked at Hamin awkwardly. "Hyung, don’t cry here. I don’t know how to comfort you. And frankly speaking, I don’t want to."
Wonhee nudged Yejun lightly. "Hamin-ssi, Bitna is doing well..."
"How can someone stuck in a dungeon live well?"
Hamin’s tone suddenly turned harsh.
[He got a point, though.]
Hence, Wonhee felt embarrassed.
Yejun seemed like he didn’t like the tone that Hamin used, though. "Ha Min, don’t lash out at Wonhee. It’s not her fault that the brocco– I mean, the chihuahua was stuck in a dungeon."
At least, Yejun remembered that he wasn’t supposed to reveal that the "broccoli," aka Hamin’s personal Admin, was Bitna.
"Don’t be rude to Wonhee– especially not in front of me."
The temperature in the room dropped.
Hamin glared at Yejun, and Yejun glared back at Hamin.
On the other hand, Ahyeon suddenly looked nervous, and he looked like he was preparing to make a barrier in case Hamin and Yejun suddenly clashed.
"Hamin-ssi," Wonhee said, breaking the tension. "How do you remember Bitna?"
"A child," Hamin said bluntly. "She was in high school when the Outbreak happened."
"You met her around that time, didn’t you?"
"Bitna is the same age as me, Hamin-ssi."
"I’m a grown adult, and so Bitna is," Wonhee said, pausing for a moment before she revealed another fact that Bitna allowed her to reveal. "I know being stuck in a dungeon sounds awful– and it is. I was only there for a few hours, but I can tell that living there wasn’t easy. But, fortunately, Bitna isn’t a Civilian."
Hamin’s eyes widened a bit. "She’s not?"
"She’s an Awakened Person now, and she’s strong," she said, and then she glanced at Yejun. "Right?"
Yejun nodded. "The chihuahua is a carnivore."
Hamin looked relieved when he heard that. "I see. She’s alive, and she awakened. That’s good." He clasped his hands together and shut his eyes tight. "Thank god."
"Hamin-ssi, why are you looking for Bitna desperately?"
"Because it was my fault that she disappeared."
Hamin opened his eyes– and his eyes were full of guilt. "I was supposed to be the sacrifice that day and not Bitna."
Wonhee finally realized why Hamin was that desperate when it came to Bitna.
[Hamin-ssi is suffering from survivor guilt– just like I am.]
"HOW LONG am I going to get stuck here with Lee Seodam?" Park Ruda asked, sighing. "I have work to do. We’re gonna start filming my drama soon."
He couldn’t leave his apartment at APA Village.
This time, the order came from Kwon Jiwoong.
[And I know for a fact that Yeon Soobin has people keeping their eyes on me.]
"Hunter Lee Seodam isn’t in a good condition yet," Kwon Jiwoong said firmly. "You have to stay by his side and Guide him until he fully recovers."
That was the current situation.
[After Chu Wonhee purified Seodam, Seodam got better. But he needs Guiding. His Core has been damaged by the Virus, and only my Guiding can fix it.]
That was also why Ruda had been stuck in bed with Seodam.
He only got a reason to get up from bed when Kwon Jiwoong arrived.
"Why are you so eager to work for that drama?" Kwon Jiwoong asked, knitting his eyebrows. "You just wanted to beat Chu Wonhee at her own game, don’t you?"
[Chu Wonhee finally remembers, so we can have a proper conversation from now on.]
But that was something that Kwon Jiwoong didn’t have to know.
Fortunately, the APA President received a phone call.
Hence, Ruda didn’t have to give a response.
"What did you say?!" Kwon Jiwoong asked in a panic. "Foreign Hunters have entered our country in secret?! Are they planning to invade us?!"
Ruda raised an eyebrow.
[Are those foreign Hunters looking down on South Korea because we ’lost’ Hwang Frost a year ago?]
