Chapter 130: Chapter 130
[THE LORD is testing my patience.]
Yejun thought so after hearing what Wonhee said.
"Let’s just sleep together," Wonhee, who was already lying down on the bed in her cute pajamas, said sleepily while patting the space next to her. "I’m tired, so I don’t think I can wait for you to sleep first while holding your hand. I’m sorry."
Yejun gulped hard before he shook his head and spoke. "You don’t have to apologize for that, Wonhee-ya. Thank you for working hard for me today."
Wonhee suddenly giggled as if she remembered something funny.
[Aww... it’s adorable.]
During Yejun’s wild days, back when he developed a god complex (every high-ranking Hunter did, FYI), his empathy decreased and he saw people weaker than him as nothing but objects that he could destroy anytime.
He knew he’d go on a killing spree if he didn’t change his mindset, and so he ended up categorizing people as herbivores, carnivores, vertebrae, and invertebrate.
Yes, he started to see humans as mere animals back then.
[In my defense, animals are cuter than humans. I won’t hesitate to kill a scumbag, but I can’t kill a cute animal– especially the small ones. Heck, there are even dungeon monsters that are cuter than humans that my heart breaks a little every time I have to kill them.]
Hence, for humanity’s sake, Yejun programmed his brain to see humans as mere animals that he needed to protect so he wouldn’t snap and kill them at the slightest inconvenience.
[Wonhee-ya is adorable, but I can’t see her as a mere omnivore.]
Because Yejun wanted to do things to Wonhee that he would only do to a fellow human being.
"It’s surreal to hear you thank me, Yejun-ah. You even apologized earlier," Wonhee said when she was done laughing (cutely). "Captain Lee Jiho cried and said I was the first S-Class who thanked him and apologized to him at the same time."
Yejun knitted his eyebrows. "You seem to be fond of Captain Lee, Wonhee-ya."
"Really? That’s your takeaway from what I said? Don’t you feel bad that a grown man cried in front of a stranger just because he was moved?"
"What does it have to do with me, Wonhee-ya?"
"You and the other Big 4 traumatized Captain Lee."
"Big deal. Everyone is traumatized by us, even the ones who claim to be our fans. If we approach them, they shrivel like dried ginseng."
"Hwang Yejun, I’m not asking you to be nice to Captain Lee. You said you’d be polite towards him, didn’t you? Why are you being now?"
Yejun pouted like a child. "Because you like Captain Lee more than I thought."
"I only like him as a person."
"Really? That vertebra is quite handsome for a Civilian."
"Yes, Captain Lee is definitely handsome. But he’s not my type."
"What’s your type then?"
"A mature man who doesn’t pout and act sulky just because the woman they like mentions another man."
Yejun beamed. "That totally sounds like me."
"Sure, Yejun-ah," Wonhee said, laughing softly. "Sure."
"I’m not jealous of Captain Lee Jiho," he lied with a straight face, and then he moved to the bed. Of course, he lay down next to Wonhee while facing her. "I’m just worried because the Special Forces is under APA’s command. Captain Lee might be Kwon Jiwoong’s puppet."
"That doesn’t seem to be the case, but I’ll always be careful around them," Wonhee promised, and then she slowly closed her eyes. "Let’s continue this conversation tomorrow, Yejun. I have something else to talk to you about."
"Okay. Can we cuddle?"
Yejun froze when Wonhee suddenly moved closer to him, and then she wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her face against his chest.
[It’s good that Wonhee is comfortable around me now, but...]
"Wonhee-ya, don’t trust me too much."
"Of course, I don’t," Wonhee said sleepily. "The is already activated, so you can’t do anything to me without my consent."
"Yeah, you should be this vigilant," Yejun said, wrapping an arm around Wonhee’s body. But his hand was itching to go lower and squeeze something round and soft. "Wonhee-ya, can I touch your–"
Yejun’s self-restraint was S-Grade, according to him, and he was glad that he was sober thanks to Wonhee’s Guiding.
He couldn’t sleep, though.
Usually, he was the one who would fall asleep first.
But, this time, Wonhee did.
He didn’t get a response.
And it seemed like Wonhee was already deep asleep.
[She must really be exhausted after Guiding me all day.]
"Lower your voice, talking orange," Yejun said calmly. "My Wonhee is sleeping."
"She won’t wake up since the System made her fall asleep."
Yejun didn’t want to move, but she knew that he needed to have a proper conversation with the talking orange.
He carefully moved even though he knew Wonhee wouldn’t wake up right away.
And then he faced the talking orange that was suspended in the air, right in front of him.
"I’m here to personally deliver your reward for clearing the solo, Hwang Yejun," the talking orange said. "The System would like to inform you that as a reward, you have the freedom to choose which among your downgraded skills you would like to be upgraded back to their L-Grade levels. You can pick two."
Yejun’s Status Window popped up in front of him.
[SS-Grade --> L-Grade
That was a pretty useful reward.
[I just have to be smart about what skill to upgrade.]
"Okay, I got it," Yejun said. "So, why did you come here personally?"
"The System has a favor to ask of you, Hwang Yejun."
"Nah, I don’t wanna hear it–"
"It’s for Chu Wonhee’s sake."
The talking orange let out a sigh before speaking. "Chu Wonhee has at least two skills that she can’t see."
"I knew it," he said. "I saw her Status Window pop up, but she didn’t seem to notice it. Is it something that you should hide from her?"
"Because Chu Wonhee is too kind for her own good," the talking orange said firmly. "The System needs you to manage those particular skills for her."
"Wonhee wouldn’t like that, so I have to decline–"
"It’s the skill that downgraded Lee Seodam’s status level from A-Class to B-Class."
"I’m the perfect person to manage Wonhee’s hidden skills, right?"
"The System knows that Chu Wonhee will find it unfair that her personal feelings dictate the fate of the Awakened People around her. But that’s not the case. Unfortunately, we can’t explain yet why she has the ability to influence a person’s awakening," the talking orange explained. "Until then, the System wants you to make sure that Chu Wonhee won’t realize that she has the ."
"Is that skill responsible for the fake carnivore’s demotion?"
"I’ll tell you a secret– Lee Seodam was supposed to awaken as a D-Class Hunter, with a maximum potential of leveling up to B-Class for his second awakening," the talking orange said. "But because he loves Chu Wonhee, and Chu Wonhee loved him back, he awakened as a B-Class Hunter and quickly leveled up as an A-Class Hunter. It’s thanks to Chu Wonhee’s . As its name suggested, it’s the opposite of the
"You said Wonhee LOVED that fake carnivore, but you also said that bastard LOVES Wonhee," Yejun said, frowning. Yes, that was his main takeaway. He really didn’t care about the other stuff that the talking orange explained. "Does he still have feelings for Wonhee? I thought that scumbag hates her."
"There’s a thin line between love and hate," the talking orange said. "Lee Seodam still has strong positive feelings for Chu Wonhee, and that’s why he’s still a Hunter."
"The System recognizes that scumbag as an ’Irregular,’ along with his stupid Guide who keeps on picking a fight with my Wonhee. What does being an ’Irregular’ mean?"
"You can’t even tell me that?" Get full chapters from novel[f]ire.net
"The System doesn’t recognize Hunter Lee Seodam and Guide Park Ruda as threats, so you can’t kill them for no reason. Korea already has scarcity when it comes to high-ranking Hunters and Guides. Do you want other countries to attack and invade Korea once they judge that your country is weak?"
That was a problem, too.
[Korean Awakened People have to appear united or else we’ll be attacked by other stronger and bigger countries.]
Korea was a small nation, and it was only thanks to the Big 4 that they remained safe all this time.
"Just make sure that Chu Wonhee won’t unconsciously influence bad people positively."
"I get it," Yejun said, smirking. "I just need to make Wonhee a villainess, right?"
The talking orange looked confused, but he nodded (bounced) in the sure. "We leave it to you, Hwang Yejun."
Ruda was surprised to see that Lee Seodam had already returned to his apartment.
It seemed like he was in a good mood, unlike when he left last night.
After all, Lee Seodam made breakfast for Ruda.
[His expression looks bright now.]
"Did you talk to my uncle last night?" Ruda asked carefully while leaning against the door frame and crossing his arms over his chest. "What did you two talk about?"
Lee Seodam gave Ruda a small smile. "I just got enlightened, Ruda."
"I’ll be fine– everything will go back to normal soon."
Ruda knitted his eyebrows. "What do you mean by that?"
"Wonhee is kind," Lee Seodam said vaguely. "All she needs to do is continue being the saintess that she is."
