Chapter 75: Chapter 75
Chapter 75
Taylor worked very productively and swiftly, and most importantly, she did it secretly for me without reporting to Enzo. Taylor handed me a medical checkup report from the hospital and said, "Here's the hospital checkup report. Min has no health issues whatsoever; she's perfectly healthy."
I took the checkup paper and carefully read it, fearing that I might overlook even the slightest detail. After confirming that all of Min's health indicators were normal, I finally felt relieved. Enzo's words had made me constantly anxious about my daughter.
I looked at Taylor and hesitated but couldn't contain my curiosity, asking, "So why did Enzo claim that Min was suffering from depression? Does he do this just to keep me on edge?" Thinking about it, it was entirely plausible that Enzo would do such a thing. He had never truly let me live in peace.
Taylor furrowed her brow for a moment and then said, "I don't think so."
"If not that, then what other reason could there be? He has always used those despicable means to control me," I said, frustrated. Besides that reason, I couldn't think of another, or rather, I couldn't think positively about Enzo.
Taylor simply chuckled at my words, “What if he just… doesn't want you to worry?”
"I'm concerned about him? Taylor, do you really think I would be concerned about someone like Enzo?" I laughed, finding Taylor's words nonsensical.
Taylor didn't argue and just shrugged before preparing to leave. Before leaving, she turned back and said, "I'm just guessing, but I think Mr. Enzo might genuinely feel that way. If you ever need help, don't hesitate to contact me."
"As for me, I'll never have that thought," I said, not understanding why Taylor could say such a thing.
Since Ron left, I had wanted to call and inquire about his family and him, but every time I looked at his phone number, I hesitated for a long time and ultimately didn't dare to make the call.
I returned to work after days of exhausting contemplation. DIZ Corporation had wanted to collaborate with my company, but because of Boss's promise to me, even though he wanted it badly, he reluctantly declined the partnership.
No one in the company could understand Boss's way of doing things, but I was the only one who understood why he did it. Indeed, if we collaborated with DIZ, my company would receive a massive investment, and even if we didn't collaborate with DIZ, my company would attract other sources of investment.
Although I disliked Enzo and didn't want to collaborate with DIZ, I had to admit that after a successful project with DIZ, many different large and small companies were eager to partner with my company.
That was precisely why Boss had promised not to fire me but instead to allow me to stay.
After that project, I didn't take on any new projects, so I had a lot of free time at the company. I spent time in the break room drinking coffee. Some people might find it annoying that I had so much time in the break room while they didn't, but I enjoyed it despite knowing it wasn't a good thing.
"Ms. Flora, are you free tonight?" It's David, the new employee at the company, and also my subordinate. We've talked a few times, and since I used to be a new employee myself, I understand David's feelings, so I often help him out.
"What's up? If it's about those documents, I can send you the instructions. Are you having trouble with those documents? Would you like some coffee?" I asked, getting up to make him a cup of coffee. David is the youngest person in the company, good-looking, and friendly, so everyone likes him, and I'm no exception.
David sat down across from me and accepted the freshly brewed coffee. "It's not really about the documents, it's just that I've been really grateful for everything you've done to help me, so I wanted to invite you to dinner."
"No need to be so formal. I was a new employee once too, so I understand how you feel. Whether it's you or someone else, I'll always be willing to help. There's no need to go to such lengths. It's just part of my responsibility," I laughed, remembering the time when I was a junior employee. I hadn't had someone higher up help me, so I didn't want to become like those superiors.
But David didn't think like me. He was determined to invite me to dinner to express his gratitude. Seeing his enthusiasm and persistence, I couldn't refuse, so I eventually agreed.
"So, I'll pick you up tonight," David said cheerfully, but I immediately waved my hand and said, "No need, I can come on my own. Just send me the restaurant's address."
Since I had agreed to have dinner with David, he didn't realize that I would not agree to let him pick me up.
At the appointed time, Rollo asked, "Mom, are we going out for dinner tonight?"
"One of Mom's colleagues wants to treat us to dinner, and it's almost time," I replied, checking the location indicating that I was about to arrive at the restaurant David had chosen.
As soon as I walked in, I felt that the atmosphere of this restaurant was not suitable. The restaurant had a romantic decor with predominately white and red colors.
I quickly spotted David sitting at a nearby table and led Rollo over. "David, have you been waiting long?"
David looked at me with a smile, but when he looked at my son, his expression changed slightly, and he awkwardly asked, "I just got here. Who's this little guy?"
"He's my son, Rollo," I introduced happily. Rollo was still quite young, and I couldn't leave him home alone to have dinner with David.
Rollo seemed to really like this restaurant. The restaurant's style was cute and romantic, and they even provided appealing and diverse dishes for kids. Almost all of my attention was on Rollo, and considering our not-so-great relationship in recent days, I never expected to have the opportunity to have dinner with my son like this.
I turned to talk to David. Since our relationship was superior and subordinate, I thought it would be appropriate to discuss work.
"David, you've been with the company for four months now, and there are various projects coming up. But I highly value your abilities. Would you like to participate in any upcoming projects?" I suggested some upcoming projects, of course not solely because of this dinner; all the employees were aware of the information about these projects.
"My skills are still lacking, and I'm afraid I might hinder my colleagues," David hesitated to say, but I didn't believe that was the case. I had heard feedback from colleagues and had reviewed David's reports myself; he was truly outstanding.
I want to encourage David, "You don't need to worry; I can guide you,'" I said. But as soon as I finished speaking, David didn't pay any attention to my words and instead looked at my son and asked, "Why?"
"Flora, are you married now? What about this child..."
I didn't think much about it and thought David was just curious, so I replied honestly, "I've been married before, but now my son and I live together. He's very well-behaved, so everything is relatively easy for me."
Upon hearing this, David chuckled, and his strange gaze turned towards me. He asked, "This child doesn't have a father; he'll definitely lack a lot of affection... while you, as a woman, have to work and take care of your son at home." David spoke while lightly touching my hand with his, but I quickly pulled my hand away. I felt the atmosphere was becoming uncomfortable.
I calmly asked, "What do you mean? I can handle that without any man's help."
"You say you don't need any man's help, are you sure? What about Ron? He's not a man?" David laughed when he heard my response, speaking in a mocking tone.
I was surprised that David knew about Ron, but his gaze was anything but friendly. Now I regretted accepting his invitation to come here. At this point, I realized that David's invitation wasn't simply to thank me for my work; although I didn't know his intentions, his gaze clearly revealed malicious intent.
"I think you've understood what I'm saying to some extent," David raised his eyebrows and said, with an extremely arrogant and confident demeanor that made it hard to recognize him as the same person from the company.
I wanted to curse and throw water in his face, but thinking about Rollo sitting next to me and the fact that we still had to work together after this dinner, I suppressed my anger.
"If you invited me to dinner just to say these things, then it's best not to invite me again. I also regret accepting your invitation," I said, wanting him to understand that my patience had its limits. But David pretended not to hear and continued to taunt.
"Don't get angry so quickly. I just want to suggest a mutually beneficial cooperation." David once again reached out to take my hand, an insidious gesture that made me feel repulsed.
"Cooperation? In what?" I furrowed my brow and asked.
"You know, a sexual relationship. At the company, we'll be colleagues helping each other in all tasks, with you as my superior and subordinate. Outside the company, we'll simply satisfy each other's needs. Don't you find life like that exciting?" David shrugged and laughed, appearing very confident in his proposition, unaware of how nauseated it made me feel. At this point, I didn't want to throw water in David's face anymore; I wanted to punch him directly.
David was about to continue when a deep and hoarse voice interrupted, "If you agree, it means you're having an affair, Flora." The man walked up to my table.
My already terrible mood, worsened by David, plummeted further when the man I despised the most stood beside me. "Why are you here? Don't tell me you've been following me," I said, crossing my arms and raising an eyebrow at Enzo. Perhaps because we were so familiar with each other, I always had an indifferent attitude and did not want to attention to Enzo.
Enzo was wearing a suit and a long black coat over it, looking as if he had just arrived rather than having dined there.
"If I say I wasn't following you, would you believe me?" Enzo asked teasingly.
I smirked and said, "Of course, I wouldn't believe that." Only a fool would believe his words.
