Chapter 73: Chapter 73

Chapter 73

As usual, I woke up early to prepare breakfast for my son and take him to school. However, as soon as I opened the bedroom door, I saw Rollo standing in front of it, looking extremely pitiful and distraught. Before I could understand what was happening with him, Rollo spoke with a quivering voice.

"Mom, are you angry because Dad came here? Last night... I heard..." Rollo said hesitantly and embarrassed. At this point, I also understood the issue, as the last night had been quite intense. But if he had asked that question, I decided to show my discomfort intentionally.

"Isn't it that you also wanted him to come? Mom doesn't have any other choice," I sighed and waited for Rollo's reaction. As I had predicted, Rollo pursed his lips, deep in thought, and then spoke up, "Alright, I won't ask Dad to come here again, so please don't be angry, okay?"

I knew that Enzo had come here on his own, not because Rollo had called him, but I couldn't comprehend what was so good about Enzo that made Rollo develop such a favorable and affectionate attitude towards him. Now, Rollo not only seemed more distant from me than before but also displayed a cold attitude towards Ron, the person who had helped me take care of Rollo since he was born.

"Okay, let's have breakfast quickly," I sighed, hating the feeling that I was the villain causing a rift between the father-son relationship of Enzo and my son.

Before I could fully savor the tranquility of the morning, I received a call from Ron. I quickly picked up the phone, but the caller wasn't Ron; it was the voice of a young woman.

[Is this Flora?] the young woman exclaimed loudly.

I was surprised but replied, "Yes, it's me. But what's going on? And who are you?"

After hearing my confirmation, the woman on the other end immediately chuckled condescendingly, her voice dripping with arrogance and disdain.

[So, you're the one. I'm Ron's sister. My mom talked to you yesterday, right? Are you really that dumb, or are you just pretending? Were the things my mom said not accurate, or were they so accurate that they startled you?

Women like you are truly despicable; I can't fathom whether my brother is crazy for clinging to a lowly and contemptible person like you. I warn you, if my mom suffers any harm because of you, I won't spare you! You are truly a dirty, shameless, and detestable woman. Our family is going through all this because of you, a troublemaker who ruins other people's families. You should be thrown in jail!]

I had no idea what was happening, and I wondered what I had done to make the girl on the other end of the line speak to me with such disdain. "I don't understand what you're talking about at all. Yes, I met her yesterday, but we just had a conversation, and nothing happened. If you don't clarify, I can't understand what's going on."

Though it was uncomfortable to hear such things from a stranger, I refrained from getting angry because I didn't yet grasp the situation. However, the girl on the line didn't respond and immediately hung up, leaving me bewildered and confused in the kitchen.

After dropping Rollo off at school, I was on my way back home, but the girl's probing and heavy words, claiming to be Ron's sister, continued to echo in my head. Then, I remembered Enzo's words from last night, saying he would "take care of" something, and he also knew about my meeting with Ron's mother and our conversation.

When I wasn't thinking about it, I felt puzzled and somewhat lost, but when I thought about Enzo, I suddenly felt a chill down my spine and my face turned pale. Enzo was now different from what I knew before. Previously, he only targeted me, using the same tactics to coerce me to be by his side.

And it seemed that things were no longer as simple as they used to be. I clenched my teeth and took a deep breath. I should have realized this sooner, when Ron had his accident and was hospitalized, and Enzo's presence in my house at that time was no longer just a coincidence.

But I had no evidence connecting these things to Enzo. I couldn't ask him directly either, so I decided to call Ron once more to find out exactly what was happening. This time, it wasn't Ron's sister who answered the phone.

"I'd like to meet you and ask a few questions. Are you available?" I asked. After receiving his consent, I immediately headed home.

To my surprise, when I arrived home, Ron was waiting for me at the door, looking genuinely happy to see me. However, I could clearly see exhaustion and pallor on his face.

"When you called me, I thought I had changed your mind," Ron chuckled, and I knew he was always hoping I would change my mind and leave the country with him.

But unfortunately, our meeting today was not about that. I didn't know how to start the conversation because what I wanted to say was related to his family and Enzo.

Seeing me hesitating to speak, Ron began first. "This morning, I apologize. My sister said some unpleasant things to you, and I didn't expect her to take my phone and call you. Please don't pay attention to what the kid said."

I sat across from him, and in reality, I couldn't ignore what his sister had said. But I had to clarify this because it also concerned Ron and Enzo.

"Ron, do you know what's going on? Your sister's words indicate that something significant has happened in your family. And the accident that landed you in the hospital... Are you hiding something from me? Please, tell me," I said gently, trying to ease the tension between us.

Ron looked at me and chuckled awkwardly but remained silent for a while, making it difficult to answer me. I patiently continued, "Is this also related to Enzo, right? I don't want to be kept in the dark about it."

Ron sighed, perhaps realizing he couldn't keep me in the dark any longer. He avoided my gaze and finally spoke, "It's not Enzo who's involved, but he's the one behind all of this. I don't want to hide anything from you; I just don't want you to continue living in fear and running away from him."

I furrowed my brow and looked at Ron. "But even so, I don't want to be with him."

Ron gazed at the coffee cup on the table and, after a while, spoke again, "I know Enzo won't harm you and Rollo. I'm sure of this, which is why I thought that staying silent would make everything okay."

I listened to Ron's words, still not fully understanding the situation. I hastily interrupted him in my confusion, "Wait, I don't understand... What has Enzo done to your family? Please, be clear!"

Ron looked at me with an unwavering gaze but eventually spoke. "Alright, sooner or later, you should know this. Enzo has continued to see you and not say anything definite to you because he either wants to hide something from you, or maybe he wants to resolve things completely before telling you. Do you remember the terrible case of the girl named Rika?"

"You once said she was Enzo's lover. Initially, both you and I thought it was just a murder case, but after quietly investigating, the horrifying thing wasn't Rika's gruesome death but the brutal way she was killed.

While I couldn't investigate the identity of the perpetrator, there were some clues related to Enzo. In other words, there's a strong possibility that Enzo is the culprit in this murder case."

Faced with this horrifying information, I covered my mouth, trying to calm my emotions. I couldn't believe Enzo could be a murderer.

"No way... Rika was Enzo's lover; there's no reason for him to do something like that. Her death was gruesome, and only someone with a vendetta against her would be so ruthless." I quickly countered, not because I wanted to defend Enzo or didn't want to believe Ron, but this was not something to be taken lightly.

"I know you won't believe me, but it's the truth. As for the other incident, my father helped investigate. The driver of that car received a large sum of money from a beautiful blonde woman, with specific instructions to target me. My father knows and has met this woman, and according to him, she is Enzo's secretary." Ron explained.

Ron's revelations once again left me shocked and shaken. "Taylor? Are you saying it's Taylor?"

"That's right. Enzo can manipulate the media and control the police, but he can't fully control the upper echelons of society. My father has many connections, and that's how we've managed to uncover so much." I recalled the conversation between Ron and his mother in the hospital room, where the man his mother mentioned was undoubtedly Enzo.

"What about your family?" If Enzo was still keeping an eye on me when I met Ron's mother, then he must have done something.

"In reality, the financial situation of my father's company hasn't been great for the past few years, but it was still manageable and could have been turned around. However, in the past year, things have become increasingly difficult, and for over a month now, all our partners want to terminate their contracts and cease cooperation with my father's company. But no one has given my father a valid reason; they seem genuinely afraid of something. A close partner who used to be friends with my father revealed that they were all being threatened and forced to withdraw their investments. It's either they pull their investments and stop working with my father's company or they die."

I listened in silence to what Ron was saying, feeling a chilling sensation run down my spine. "My mother... while she was out shopping, a suspicious person attacked her... but luckily, she survived the ordeal. The perpetrator escaped, and although the police are investigating, they seem to be working half-heartedly, as if they don't truly want to continue the investigation. Perhaps this is a warning and a threat from Enzo."

I was horrified and confused, stuttering, "Are... Are you sure about this?... But... there's no evidence... this is..."

Ron sighed wearily, "Listen, a powerful and wealthy figure like Enzo, do you really think we can find evidence of him doing these things? The only one capable of such actions is Enzo. He warned me not to get close to you and Rollo, or he'd make everything in my life crumble, and right now, he's doing just that."

"I... I had no idea about any of this..." My mind was like a blank sheet of paper, empty and unable to think of anything.

Ron wiped his forehead, looking incredibly drained and exhausted. At this point, he seemed to have no energy left. "Flora, Enzo isn't playing around; you have to be careful when dealing with him. I can't stay here for too long. Tonight, I'll fly back home to take over my father's responsibilities at the company. You don't need to see me off at the airport."
