Chapter 60: Chapter 60
Chapter 60
This murder case sent shockwaves, leaving many people bewildered and descending into panic. The police quickly arrived at my company and wanted to see me privately. Deep down, I already knew the police would come to find me, so I was quite willing to cooperate.
"I've investigated information about the victim. It's known that the victim had once kidnapped your son, Flora. I want to know if you and the victim had any conflicts or at least any disagreements about something?" The female police officer asked.
I nodded slightly, honestly not wanting to bring up this matter as it felt like a sharp knife thrust into my heart: "There was no animosity between her and me. I can say we were complete strangers."
"If you were strangers, then why did the victim kidnap your son? Is it truly such a distant relationship between the two of you?" The female police officer continued to inquire.
I didn't initially want to discuss this issue, but in service of the investigation, I had to suppress the discomfort within me: "She was my ex-husband's lover, and I had met her a few times. As for why she kidnapped my son, I haven't had a chance to meet and ask her the clear reason..."
After some conversation with the police, they instructed me to return home and contact them if anything came up. I had no desire to involve myself in these troublesome matters.
As I stepped out of the police station, a luxurious black car was waiting outside. Just a quick glance told me it was Enzo's car; his presence here wasn't surprising since the victim in this murder case was his lover.
Having to be in a situation like this was already troublesome enough for me, and now encountering Enzo added to it. Today truly felt like the unluckiest day of my life. I hurriedly walked outside to avoid his attention, but before I could get far, I was pulled back by someone behind me.
"Where do you think you're going?" Enzo tightly held onto my arm, questioning.
Being here was also thanks to Enzo, and I really wanted to retort at him right then and there: "You've probably heard about that murder case. The victim was your lover, Rika."
"So what? I'm asking where you're going." Enzo said casually, looking unperturbed by the murder case, even though the victim was his lover.
I furrowed my brow, puzzled as I looked at him. "Don't you feel anything? I said your lover was murdered. Because of the connection, I had to come here to take a statement."
Enzo finally showed a hint of reaction, I hadn't expected him to be so slow to grasp the information. It was such shocking news, yet he seemed entirely unaffected.
"Oh, that little matter, I didn't pay much attention to it. Now, where do you want to go? Min wants to meet you." Enzo looked at me and spoke with a gentle tone, mixed with a hint of urgency.
He had used this excuse many times before; I wondered if he could come up with a fresher excuse beyond this.
"Let's set that aside for now, I have to go to the company. Early morning visit to the police station has already exhausted me."
"Then let me take you." Enzo said, but before I could agree, he had already pulled me into his car and sped off as if afraid that a second's delay would make me disappear.
The atmosphere in the car was somber. The news of Rika's murder last night had shocked me deeply, keeping me awake all night.
"Rika... does she have enemies with many people?" I asked.
Enzo chuckled at my question but seemed disinterested. More accurately, it was as if he didn't recognize the person I was talking about.
"Rika? Who's that? Someone you know?" He turned the question back to me, leaving me puzzled.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Rika, she's the model representing the new cosmetics line of the DIZ corporation. Isn't she your lover? Why are you pretending not to know? You don't have to feign ignorance like this!"
I thought he was pretending not to know the girl named Rika to avoid suspicion, but how could he act like he knew nothing about someone he had been in a romantic relationship with?
"Company product representative? Rika, you say? There are so many models at the company, and I don't pay much attention, so I wouldn't know... Besides, aren't you the one who dislikes her?" Enzo tilted his head and spoke.
Of course, I don't like her because she kidnapped my son, unrelated to any other matters. It's only been three days, and everything has turned out like this, which terrifies and worries me, while Enzo seems remarkably calm.
"Aren't you worried?" I inquired.
Enzo decisively shook his head, his expression confirming that he felt no unusual emotions about this matter. I sighed and didn't bring up the issue anymore, not thinking Enzo could be so indifferent.
But his next words sent shivers down my spine and made me break out in a cold sweat. He chuckled and said, "This is good news. Once that woman is dead, no one will interfere in our relationship anymore. Those who meddle in our relationship need to be eliminated. Rollo will be happier because the one who kidnapped the kid is dead... What's wrong? Your face doesn't look good, are you okay?"
I shuddered at his words, that he considered such a shocking murder case as good news. I knew he was crazy, but I didn't expect him to be this insane.
As the car pulled up to the company gate, I quickly leapt out like a scared animal. Suddenly, I felt a sense of fear for this man. This murder case kept me up last night, fearing the sight of Rika's body being brutally cut apart, yet Enzo maintained a cold, unaffected expression.
My life hadn't changed much after Rika was killed, except for occasional visits from the police inquiring about the case, which was somewhat troublesome. Enzo didn't bother me anymore, nor did he engage in overly bizarre actions or make strange demands of my superiors. Not being bothered by him made me feel more comfortable, but the words he spoke in the car still haunted me.
After the police took my statement, they concluded my innocence and began investigating other suspects. Due to the gruesome nature of this murder case, after the night of the live news broadcast, it was never aired again.
And by some miraculous occurrence, all the news related to Rika and this horrendous murder case gradually vanished from the internet. It felt like someone was intentionally erasing them all slowly and unnoticed.
A case is causing such a nationwide stir that it cannot be easily erased as swiftly as this, at the very least it will leave the population in turmoil for weeks. And things took a 'positive' turn just a few weeks after the news related to Rika's murder virtually disappeared from the internet and other media outlets.
I'm not sure if the police are still investigating, not because I don't care but because I'm too afraid to care. Ideally, that case sinking into obscurity would be a good thing, it wouldn't affect the people's psychological fear much, but I'm even more afraid.
Because this case is far from ordinary.
I confided these worries to Ron, but unlike me, Ron just shook his head reassuringly, "You're overthinking it, don't dwell on those things anymore. The police have it under control."
"But I'm very worried and scared. I tried asking Enzo if Rika had any grudges against anyone, but he basically doesn't know. However, it's clear that Rika was his lover, he can't be unaware of this." I said in confusion.
I spoke so much, but Ron only caught 'Enzo', he furrowed his brows and asked, "You met Enzo? Have you forgotten what he did to you and Rollo? And what did his lover do to Rollo? Flora, have you forgotten so quickly?"
I was quite surprised to be interrogated like this. What Enzo did to me and Rollo and what Rika did to my son, I had never forgotten. Meeting Enzo was just a coincidence near the police station, and I wanted to ask him about the case related to Rika because I had been a suspect in this case.
"I haven't forgotten. Meeting Enzo was just a coincidence, and I'm still a suspect, so I wanted to know more about Rika's murder. I wanted to know who she might have had conflicts with that could lead to such a brutal act against her." I explained.
Hearing this, Ron's face lost its tension, his attitude softened, and he didn't bring up Enzo anymore. "I apologize for raising my voice, but you also know what Enzo did to you and Rollo. He's not an ordinary person, his actions aren't normal, and they will harm you and Rollo. If possible, I hope you can stay away from him as far as you can." Ron sighed and said, gently patting my hand.
I felt the warmth in Ron's comforting words. I also knew I should distance myself from Enzo; after all, we should have cut ties long ago. It's just that things won't be that simple. If I could truly sever my relationship with Enzo, there would be nothing left between us long ago. Enzo wouldn't let that happen; I no longer believe in the concept of love that Enzo mentioned. More accurately, I'm afraid of having to live the way I did before, where everything revolved around Enzo.
