Chapter 49: Chapter 49
Chapter 49: My Daughter Doesn't Like Her Young Brother
Externally, we looked like a complete family, a couple with two children. However, my relationship with Enzo was never good from the beginning. Clearly, this marriage should no longer be sustained, but I don't understand why Enzo is so stubborn. I don't know what he wants from me, what good qualities of mine he's holding onto and stubbornly refusing to divorce me.
From the beginning, I made it clear that I wanted to divorce him as soon as possible and, of course, I didn't need anything from him, including property or social status. What I want is just a peaceful life and a happy marriage, though these may be things that are considered normal for other people, they are something that is a luxury to me.
I don't know if Enzo is aware that our relationship has reached an impasse and there's no way to save it anymore. Min may be better off being with Enzo, and that would be better for me as well.
The atmosphere here is very suffocating and tense, we can't even sit at the same dining table or simply talk to each other lightly. Not only Enzo but even I cannot speak gently with him as before.
Since Rollo and I came here to live, I've noticed that Enzo hasn't left the house. I'm wondering if his relationship with that mistress has ended.
I have not been angry or upset with Enzo's affair since we haven't completed the divorce formalities yet. Initially, I blamed Enzo, thinking he was a scoundrel, a libertine for bringing his mistress home. But now when I reminisce about their sensual images and sounds, I don't feel anything anymore. Perhaps my feelings for Enzo have completely vanished.
This is also good news for me.
Although I no longer have any emotional attachment to Enzo, I still hope that Min and Rollo can become closer. I try to arrange for the two children to share a room and talk with each other. I am sure they will quickly find common ground with each other.
In the living room, I silently watched Enzo flipping through the files. His working posture was very serious and different from his usual arrogant appearance.
Enzo suddenly said:
"Is there something you want to say? Why are you staring at me like that?"
I was startled, I knew it was not appropriate to stare at someone like that. Although he was my husband on paper, at the moment we were just like strangers.
I said, "Nothing, I just wonder why you stay at home and not go to work."
It was just a casual question, I just wanted to ease the tension, but Enzo's next words made me very uncomfortable. He sneered and said, "Do you want me to go out so you can bring your lover here, or will you go find your lover?"
I clenched my fists and tried not to get angry. I said, "Don't talk nonsense. I never had any intention like that, and you just made that up."
"I made that up for you? You're being hypocritical, Flora." Enzo laughed, but I didn't feel any humor in his words.
I was about to refute him when Enzo continued:
"I've investigated everything you did after you left here. You lived with that scoundrel and relied on his help to stay hidden for so long. If I hadn't found out, would you still want to hide it forever?"
He became angrier when he spoke, and his words were full of resentment and disappointment toward me. But I did nothing wrong. Roy never lived with me; he just stayed to care for me as a friend after I gave birth to Rollo.
I also didn't deny that Roy had confessed his feelings to me, but that has nothing to do with Enzo. He and I shouldn't be together and we should both have our own lives and relationships.
I looked at Enzo's angry face and suddenly felt very calm.
"Enzo, I never had any intention of hiding anything. And I have no obligation to talk about my relationship with you."
My words provoked Enzo even more, he said loudly:
“We are husband and wife, you are my wife, and if you do that, you are having an adultery. Flora, do you understand? Our relationship like this is entirely your fault.”
"Adultery? Are you saying I'm having an affair?" I laughed sarcastically, mocking myself and Enzo.
Unexpectedly, this man had forgotten all the things he said before, and now he blames me for everything as if it were obvious.
“Enzo, if it's about adultery, you're the one who committed adultery, not me. Although I talked about divorce he didn't agree, I thought he still wanted to continue this marriage but that night, he brought another woman home, and when I found out What did you say to me, do you remember?"
Enzo is silent in the face of my words, it seemed like he had finally remembered what he had done that night. But I still wanted to remind him of the things he had done. I looked at Enzo's surprised and bewildered expression and felt the urge to laugh. How could he forget so easily while he was the one who did those things? I sighed, feeling a little bored.
"That night, you told that girl that we had divorced. I was just your ex-wife while you had not yet signed the divorce paper. But it's okay, I'm not sad about that because whether you love having a relationship with any girl does not concern me," I said.
Enzo had previously ranted at me loudly like a crazy man, but now he couldn't refute what I said. However, making Enzo feel guilty was not my intention. I just wanted him to know that this marriage could no longer be sustained. We should separate peacefully and we could still be friends if he agreed.
"Okay, I'm not saying that to make you regret or feel guilty. I just want you to know that our relationship has come to an end. We should break up in peace," I said. Finally, I spoke the things I had wanted to say for a long time. Life is short and if we hate each other, no one will be happy.
But contrary to what I wanted, Enzo suddenly had a creepy smile on his face and he looked at me for a long time and laughed. I didn't understand what I said that was so funny.
"What's so funny? Why are you laughing?" I asked.
Enzo calmly spoke as if the things I just said didn't get into his ears at all. "You want a divorce, a peaceful breakup? Flora, don't dream that I will let you go. You are my wife, my woman. Don't expect to leave me."
I was shocked to hear what he said. Why didn't he understand?
Is he crazy?
"You're crazy, Enzo, you're insane!" I angrily yelled.
At this point, Enzo was not only stubborn and conservative but also a nervous, insane man. No matter what I did, whether I was angry or talking to him with kindness, my words were of no value to him.
I stood up in anger as if I had no words left to say to him. I was too powerless to convince someone as conservative as him.
"That's enough, I don't want to say anything more to you. You've never listened to what I said," I said.
Enzo also did not hold me back, he looked at me indifferently as I left the room and that creepy smile still remained on his face, which made me shiver.
That was enough for an unpleasant conversation. While I was planning to go back to my room to think, I heard Rollo crying loudly, so I hurried to the children's room.
"What's wrong?" I called out loudly.
The scene in front of me made me very sad. My daughter Min was angry and still holding Rollo's hair tightly. Min shouted, "Who let you touch my toy!"
I quickly prevented Min from doing anything terrible to her younger brother. "Min! What are you doing? Why are you holding Rollo's hair?"
Rollo saw me and immediately rushed into my embrace, crying loudly. I felt heartbroken seeing my son like this. I asked Min, "Whatever Rollo did, you should only talk to him, don't do that."
"Min! You cannot scare Rollo," I scolded Min for the first time. She was startled, looking at me crying.
Maybe the little girl was shocked when I yelled so loud. She looked at me angrily and pushed me away. Before leaving the room, Min said something that broke my heart: "Why did you defend him? He's just your abandoned son and someone else's. He shouldn't have been born at all! Because of him, you shouted at me! I hate you!"
Min's words stabbed my heart like a sharp knife. I trembled all over, a child could say such bitter words. I don't know why I didn't want to explain everything.
What disappointed me the most was not Enzo's stubbornness and silliness, but that Min seemed to dislike her younger brother. I needed to resolve this issue quickly and connect the relationship between the two children.
