Chapter 268: Chapter 268
Chapter 267 Eat or Be Eaten
"Get up."
"I said I don't want to. Hey! " Before Veronica could finish her words, the quilt on her body was lifted by a strong force. Then, her light body was being picked up by Nick, princess-carry style. "Hey, what are you doing?"
"You should eat."
"I said I'm not hungry. I don't want to eat!"
"You have two choices." Nick walked forward with her in his arms. He faced her. "Eat or be eaten by me."
Veronica was speechless. Is the answer supposed to be difficult? She's being played, isn't she? Of course, she'll choose the former!
It was obvious that she had no third option. She bit her lip. "I choose to eat. Put me down and I'll go by myself."
"Can your body handle walking by yourself?"
Veronica did feel uncomfortable earlier, but her condition got better after sleeping. That didn't mean she didn't feel bad.
But her expression remained stubborn. "I don't feel bad."
Nick ignored her anyway and carried her downstairs and all the way to the restaurant before he finally put her down.
The hearty dinner on the table was exquisite and nutritious. She didn't even want to imagine the amount of money that was used for the ingredients and the private chefs.
But getting used to it for Nick was the ultimate luxury for Veronica.
Veronica chewed the delicate steak while thinking about Nick. Is it safe to assume that he was calm now? The atmosphere with him is normal. He even carried her downstairs to have something to eat.
Let's say he's not angry anymore, then why didn't he just let her go?
"I'll go back after dinner." Veronica stated. She didn't want to be here at all. "You said it doesn't matter if I live here in Winter Villa alone. But I still have Isabella! Isabella went to the TV station to find out why I asked for a leave. I said I was traveling with my friends, but she didn't believe me and gave me a scolding instead. Mr. Cage, I can't control other people's mood, but Isabella is different. I don't want her to worry about me. Even if I go back tonight, I don't know how many hours I'll be scolded by her. "
Nick chewed slowly; a pair of deep black eyes fell on Veronica's depressed face for a moment. "I'll see you at night."
Speechless, Veronica gaped at him, her heart missed a beat. "You ..." She hesitated at first. "Don't you need to recharge?!"
"You'll find out."
Veronica was flabbergasted and her anger flared on her chest. She put aside the knife and fork she was holding. The sound was a little loud and Veronica stiffened.
She didn't expect her hands to be so light.
The atmosphere suddenly changed.
Veronica looked at Nick's twinkling eyes and she caught her breath, frightened.
The atmosphere was rapidly changing when Nick chose to speak. "Eat later when you got hungry." He said in a low voice.
There was no sign of anger.
Veronica continued staring at Nick, slightly weirded out. Was the dangerous atmosphere earlier just her delusion?
Watching Nick eat, she tried to say something, but she hesitated. She thought for a while, then she stood up and left the restaurant.
Nick's black eyes looked deeply at the slender figure until she was out of sight and got slightly distracted.
Veronica walked out of the hall.
The night in Winter Villa was quiet and deep, with power and seriousness painting the atmosphere.
In a place as luxurious as a castle like this, she still wanted to escape. Sometimes, Veronica felt that she was being ungrateful.
She laid down on the lawn beside a secluded flower bed and looked at the sky with her hand on her head. The moon seemed brighter than usual.
She didn't have to worry over the fact that Nick wouldn't be able find her. She wore a locator. She could escape to the most secluded place on Earth and Nick would still find her.
It looked like Nick had no intention of letting her go back tonight.
Is that man an animal? He's too powerful!
The next day, Nick went to work, and he didn't look tired in slightest despite of what happened last night.
