Chapter 42: Chapter 42
I thought he hadn’t found his mate yet, and why was my father looking like he had won a bet on him?
“How did you find out, Father?” He asked again and looked over at Gérard.
Gérard shook his head and muttered. “I didn't know he knew. I wouldn’t snitch on you even if you didn’t tell me to hide it.”
What was going on here? Why does the atmosphere feel hot and built with tension?
“Bring her over to me. I don’t know why you are hiding her from me or if there is something I need to know, spill it.” He folded his hands and rested his jaw on them and focused on Carmine.
“You haven’t answered my question, father.” He reminded him, then he went on. “I smelt an Omega on you and it was pretty strong. She must be a dominant Omega, I see.”
Omega. An Omega was Carmine’s mate.
“Yeah, me too,” Alex added after gulping his glass of water. “It smelt of strawberries, father and I sniffed it on him the first day he came to the palace while you were in the garden after you excused them.”
Alex and his blabbermouth.
“I see,” Carmine mumbled.
My father and Carmine were like a unique set of people suddenly, and their attitude was scary.
“Tell me, where is she? You can’t keep hiding her for the rest of your life. You must show and present her to your family and the clan.”
“And why should I do that?’ his eyes glowed red. “I’m not ready to do that right now. When I’m ready, I will let you know, Father,’ he stood up from the seat and muttered. “I’m done.” Wanting to walk away from us, my father stopped him.
“WAIT.” He ordered, and Carmine stopped, looking over at my father with a dark expression.
“Is there something big you are hiding, a taboo or something dangerous which will affect the clan, the ten realms, because, with the way you are acting, you are not introducing her to me? Is she a beast, a vampire, a fae, or a hybrid? Let me know the type of person she is and I would not tolerate a stranger putting a strain on my reputation.”
Carmine sighed and rubbed his temples. “When I introduce her to you, you will find out for yourself. Let it be,” He concluded.
“Why don’t I find out now? You seemed tense, Carmine. Tell your father what the matter is.’
“I’m not saying anything. I will tell you when the time is right.” He noted with finality and walked out, slamming the door shut.
I was aghast and looked over at my father, who seemed annoyed.
I ruined the breakfast at last and this place feels stuffy because father became persistent and got mingled into something he wasn’t supposed to interfere with.
“You shouldn’t have cornered him like that. Maybe he wants to take his time, let him be for now. You know he doesn’t talk about himself that much.” My mother advised and Gérard got up, leaving his food halved and also left.
I rapidly got up before Emily could and raced after Gérard out of the dining room and caught up with him since he was a fast walker.
“Stop.’ I commanded, and he did, turning to me. “Who is Carmine’s mate?’ I asked.
“Why don’t you ask him that yourself? I don’t need to answer that for you.’
“Don’t be such a jerk,” I shouted. The fact there wasn’t any remorse in his expression for hurting me and getting married to someone else shocked me and made me even angrier.
Doesn’t he feel anything? How could he be so relaxed?
“Then don’t be such a noisy brat.” He snapped.
That stung, and I got emotional.
“I know you don’t mean that,” I said.
“I mean it.” He flatly stated and nearly walked away from me when I said. “I need to know.” I lowered my voice, thinking if I should do that, he will also calm down and tell me.
“That’s why you need to ask him, not me. He wants to keep it a secret, let him.”
“Really.” I clenched my fist.
“Yes.” He said without hesitation.
“Mom is arranging my marriage with Kai.” I revealed.
I don’t know why I suddenly brought that up when I didn’t come here to talk to him about that, yet, deep within me, I wanted to know what his thoughts were.
“Congratulations.” He shrugged his shoulders, smiled and sauntered off from me.
“Don’t you care that I’m going to get married, bed someone else, and give him children?”
He stopped.
“Why should he care about such a thing?’ My heart skipped, and when I shifted my gaze to her, she seemed confused.
“You are getting married. I don’t understand why he should care about such a thing. It’s pretty weird. He’s your brother, is he not?”
“Will you mind your business and stop interfering whenever I’m having a conversation with my brother, cunt?” It wasn’t my intention to insult her, but seeing her was boiling up my blood and I felt like punching her in the face. Can’t she just at least stay in her lane for once?
I know what you are going to say but Gerard is her husband, yes; he is and everyone knows that right?
Well, I’m his sister. She should at least give us some privacy and not eavesdrop on our conversation. She’s just been a busybody and it’s annoying.
“Excuse me?” She frowned. “He is my husband, and please don’t insult me like that.”
“Do you think I give a fuck? He is my brother and I can talk to him whenever I want to?” I yelled. “Stop interfering, stay out of the way, and stay put.” I was so filled with rage and got triggered even more when she said, “My husband,” who does she think she is?
“Alpha Oceana, I don’t want to disrespect you. I just simply asked a question. I did nothing wrong.”
“You are already disrespecting me by interrupting my conversation. I don’t like it and that’s where you are wrong.” I argued.
“That’s where I’m wrong,’ she frowned as she pointed at herself. "I don’t understand you. What do you think of me, Alpha Oceana? I have never disrespected you in any sort of manner. Why are you behaving this way to me?’
“Oh please, don’t act like you are the victim here. You started all this.’ I shouted.
Why was I getting furious with her? Why did she have to get married to Gerard and act like she was the best in this palace?
