Chapter 38: Chapter 38

While the maids were rubbing perfumed oil on me, I yearned for him.

If it’s fighting to get what I want, I will and I don’t give a damn.

After dressing up in my green ball gown, I put on a few golden chains on my body and had some designs planted on my long hair with some of its braided lines. Following that, I made the decision to go see Adolph.

I wonder how he must be feeling now. I have never heard such a thing from him about having his sister as his mate. Why would he keep such a secret from me? He could have told me?

Well, I didn’t tell him mine, so I understand the pressure he must have been under. I was in his shoes as well. We were both scared to speak up. The matter was really a delicate matter, risky and could get someone killed. I understood his position. I wouldn’t argue with that.

These past few weeks, I couldn’t go out to look him in the eye, because I was in shock but I got over it sooner than expected and Gerard was still on my mind and hearing about the rumours about his wife being so kind infatuated me, that’s why I refused to come out of my room so I wouldn’t bump into her stupid self.

However, I was ready to come out and face the reality of my life or else.

I will totally be a miserable wolf and no one will care about me.

Crying like a baby wouldn’t solve my problems. I want to stand up and think of what to do, but first I will have to talk to Adolph and listen to what he has to say.

I instructed the guards and maids not to tell my parents where I was going out because I wanted to go see Adolph and have a word with him without their intervention.

I got to his pack and the instant his guards saw me; they bowed before me and let me in without informing their master.

Adolph came out of his mansion and frowned at my presence before him, wearing a brown leather attire. His face was devoid of sleep, his eyes had bags, his white hair was so rough and seemed clean.

Well, that was surprising. At least he didn’t look like a raging wolf in a hot pan.

“What have you come here for?’ He strictly questioned.

I knew he didn’t want me to come to see him because of some stupid sympathy or pity.

“I came to see my best friend.’ I uttered happily, hoping to ease the tension in the air.

“We haven’t seen each other for a month and you still call me your friend.”

‘Who else should I call a friend apart from you? You are also my best friend.’ I hastily spoke.

“Leave this instant. I don’t want to see anyone.’

“But, I want to see you…”

“Oceana,” he angrily shouted. “I don’t want to see you. What’s wrong with being alone? Do you have a problem with that? Leave, before I vent my anger on you."

“I’m not leaving until you see me. I’m the princess of the Mackenzie clan. I order you to see me.’

He suddenly chuckled. ‘Are you using your title on me? Don’t forget, I am a prince as well.’

“I had no other choice but to do that since you don’t want to look at me.’ I was quite persistent and knew if I didn’t take such an action, he would kick me out.

He turned to me and sighed. “Come in.’ He motioned for me to come over into his chambers.

I slightly raised the edge of my gown and followed him into his golden chambers, passing by with the guards and maids all bowing before me.

He gestured to a sofa for me to sit on and I did and sat down on it, before starting up the conversation.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me about your mate, Adolph? I thought Sofia was your mate.'

“It wasn’t worth telling.” He replied, nearly sitting down while taking a glass of champagne.

I quickly stood up, filled with emotions, and held the back of his shoulder with tears in my eyes.

He turned to me. “Why are you crying?’

I shook my head, turning away from him and hiding my face in his shoulder even more.

“I’m sorry, I’ve not been there for you and I understand how you felt all these years. You must have been mad and frustrated, wish you would change everything at the snap of your fingers.

"I understand, and I’ve been there, Adolph. Seeing your mate getting married and sleeping with someone else must have been hard and difficult. No one knew how you were feeling and you took all the heavy burdens on yourself. You took it all.’ I wiped off my tears. “I’m so sorry. If I’m being so emotional, it just hurts so much. That’s why I spilled those words.’

He gave a deep sigh. “I thought you didn’t want to look at my face or probably you were scared or ashamed of showing yourself to me, I understand and I will do my absolute best to be by your side, we are in this together and thank you so much for thinking about all that, I am grateful for what you’ve done.’

“Adolph.’

“Are you still crying?’ He asked, laughing as we both sat down on the brown sofa with a rug that resembled the back of a tiger.

I cleaned off my tears. “Have I turned from a tough alpha to a sourpuss?”

He burst out laughing. “You are quite funny, Oceana, stop crying. Your face looks so ugly.”

I sniffed back my nose to get rid of them and Adolph seemed amused, so I hit him playfully on the shoulder to stop teasing me. I knew that was just his way of cheering me up, so I smiled at him.

“So, how did you keep such a secret from me? I thought she was your mate.”

“Well, she isn’t.” He responded. “She is just a replacement for my mate.” He stated casually.

“Do you love her?” I questioned, referring to his sister.

He chuckled painfully. His eyes were devoid of emotions. “Yes, I love her very much, and too bad she is not my wife.”

“You concealed such a deep secret. How did you do it? I thought anyone could be…”

“It was hard.” He revealed. “It was tough concealing it, I am fucking surprised how Gérard could sustain for so long. He is a pretty a strong Alpha. It must have been pretty hard enduring all by himself, Oceana.”
