Chapter 499: Chapter 499

The sky was clear, and the private jet was still en route to Osaka, Japan.

In the second cabin, Gu Qiye was reading a book, and You Ruirui was playing games on a tablet next to him.

Kalina had one hand in the pocket of her lab coat, while the other held an academic journal about animal dissection. Her eyes were bright and focused behind her goggles.

She occasionally let out a sinister laugh and hummed a little tune, seemingly eager to dissect a Light-Eating Bee with her own hands.

Jiushijiu furrowed her brow, moving a bit further away from her in distaste, hugging her shoulders and staring out the window in a daze, her pink ponytail rising and falling with the air conditioning.

Garfield put on an eye mask and pulled up the collar of his black sweater to cover his mouth, this blue-haired, blue-eyed boy lying in his seat asleep.

Beside him, Urushibara Ryuri rested her chin on her hand, her eyes blank as she stared out at the boundless sea of clouds.

Gu Qiye suddenly thought of something and asked You Ruirui, "By the way, I’ve always been curious... why did the Indian government allow the Father of Puppets to turn Ajaya into a puppet?"

You Ruirui opened her mouth but hadn’t answered when the boy in the sweater behind them spoke up.

"They signed an agreement," Garfield said coolly. "A dead superpower user held no value for them, even at the Catastrophe Level. Trading Ajaya’s body for benefits was definitely a huge gain for them."

"Garfield’s desire to show off is strong," Urushibara Ryuri said. "The two of them seem perfectly able to communicate without your help answering."

Garfield didn’t lift his head, nor did he remove his eye mask, just raised his right hand high and gave Urushibara Ryuri the finger where she could see it from behind.

"Speaking of which... is the Father of Puppets the strongest one in Rainbow Wings?" Gu Qiye turned and asked. "After all, the information you gave me said he has two Catastrophe-level superpower user corpses, which is like having double the Catastrophe-level combat power."

You Ruirui paused her rhythm game on the tablet, contemplating for a moment.

"I don’t think that’s necessarily true," she said.

You Ruirui looked at him: "Actually, I feel you might be the strongest, or rather, the hardest to guard against."

Gu Qiye was taken aback.

"You think I’m the strongest in Rainbow Wings?"

"That’s right, your speed surpasses any of us, and your destructive power is formidable. At least in terms of individual destructive capability, you’re not inferior to anyone in Rainbow Wings," You Ruirui said. "In a surprise attack, speed is an absolute advantage; if you could control the Father of Puppets, his puppets would lose their significance."

"I wish I were as powerful as you say," Gu Qiye chuckled awkwardly.

He didn’t expect that in You Ruirui’s eyes, he’d surpass the Father of Puppets. He thought You Ruirui would see him as a rookie who had just joined Rainbow Wings.

You Ruirui said flatly, "That’s what I said, but your superpower is undergoing a secondary mutation, so you’ll need some time to adapt and enhance its stability."

"That’s seeing beauty in the eyes of the lover," Urushibara Ryuri said with a yawn, "Maybe the Father of Puppets has more than two Catastrophe-level corpses, or...he himself is a puppet? In that case, seizing his true body would be pointless."

You Ruirui ignored her, thought for a moment, then said to Gu Qiye:

"For example, if this were a game, your role would be ’Assassin,’ my role ’Mage,’ Jiushijiu’s role ’Marksman,’ and the Father of Puppets’ role ’Summoner’... An Assassin can easily approach the Mage, Marksman, and Summoner with superb mobility, and eliminate them before they unleash their full power."

Gu Qiye nodded, somewhat grasping the idea.

As he listened, he suddenly recalled the time he spent at home playing ’Mutants Alliance’ with Su Zimai, Gu Wenyu, and Gu Zhuo Case. For more chapters visıt 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝·𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖·𝕟𝕖𝕥

In the game, ’Blue Arc’ was defined as an ’Assassin Character,’ and so was ’Sakurabu,’ while ’Swallowing Silver’ was a tough warrior, and ’Eagle Captain’ was a marksman.

Gu Qiye suddenly remembered that Gu Zhuo Case had repeatedly chosen ’Blue Arc’ for several games.

He smirked quietly, thinking his dad had hinted at knowing his identity back then.

"No wonder you’re an internet-addicted girl," Urushibara Ryuri chuckled, "your examples are so cheesy, full of second-rate vibes."

You Ruirui ignored her again and continued: "But when participating in large-scale battles, your performance may not be as outstanding as a Mage or Marksman. Jiushijiu excels in long-range combat, and the area covered by her summoned weaponry is extensive; I excel in mid-range combat, for reasons I won’t elaborate."

"That person from Iceland, why do you have to use me as an example?" Jiushijiu sounded a bit displeased, furrowing her brow as she turned her head. "And what do you mean by saying I’ll be killed by a newbie?"

"It’s simply an objective statement. If you have some time to prepare, you indeed have the opportunity to accidentally injure him through extensive indiscriminate fire coverage," You Ruirui said, "But in a sudden encounter, I don’t think you’d have the opportunity to unleash your weaponry before he gets to you, and he has a hundred ways to deal with you."

Jiushijiu lowered her little face, black lines appearing on her forehead, her pink eyebrows twitching.

Unable to contain her frustration, she took a deep breath, "Fine, we’ll see then."

Urushibara Ryuri smiled slightly, reminding them, "There are no internal fights in Rainbow Wings, so you can only imagine it happening." She shrugged, "Speaking of which, why are all the kids assigned to this table? I should have requested to sit in the adjacent cabin."

"I think you’re more like a child," You Ruirui said, "in every sense."

"I don’t want to be told that by someone with a flat chest," Urushibara Ryuri said flatly.

"But I won’t grow old. In a few decades, I’ll visit you and laugh at the reading glasses on your face."

"Are you sure I’ll live that long?" Urushibara Ryuri looked out the window, lost in thought.

Garfield removed the steam eye mask, his blue bangs falling down.

He opened his eyes, somewhat curious, and asked You Ruirui, "What role would my superpower play in the game?"

"You’re a Warrior," You Ruirui said flatly, "always enjoying charging in with a Gundam mindlessly... Even if you were a Mage, you’d be a melee Mage."

"That sounds terrible, can’t I be a Mechanic?" Garfield put the eye mask back on and continued resting.

"So what about Miss Kalina’s ability?" Gu Qiye casually asked, looking at the woman in the lab coat with the blonde hair who was flipping through a magazine.

"Me?" Kalina lifted her goggles slightly. "I can trap people in a Polar Domain, like a volcano or a snowfield... I really want to trap the Queen Bee inside and enjoy a little world for two, hehehe..."

After speaking, she licked her lips.

"Kalina..." You Ruirui pondered, "She’s only interested in strange geographic environments, peculiar creatures, and things like pyramids."

"I can see that." Gu Qiye nodded. At the meeting, Kalina’s eccentricities were evident. She even requested the commander to personally dissect the Queen Bee, seemingly wanting to figure out what the reproductive organs of the Light-Eating Bee looked like.

"Do you play games?" You Ruirui suddenly asked.

"Not really." Gu Qiye shook his head.

"Then, what games have you played?"

Gu Qiye thought for a moment.

"Mutants League? The association gave me a beta version to play with family."

"Perfect, I have it on my tablet." You Ruirui said, taking out a pair of controllers and connecting them to the tablet via Bluetooth.

Without asking, she handed one of the controllers to Gu Qiye, then located "Mutants League" on the desktop.

Entering the game, an exhilarating riff of electric guitar immediately blasted out.

A dim screen slowly displayed a blood-red Mutants Association symbol. You Ruirui skipped it with the controller, selected a mode, and directly entered the character selection screen.

Glancing at the character list, Gu Qiye asked in surprise, "Why are ’Ghost Bell’ and ’Black Cocoon’ in the selection screen?"

You Ruirui explained, "This is a player-made Mod version, so it includes many villain characters."

"Wouldn’t this version be banned? For having a bad influence on minors, for instance?"

"It’s fine if you play it secretly." You Ruirui said expressionlessly, "Plus, this version is very popular, spreading wide enough that the officials can’t ban it."

"Alright, then I’ll choose... ’Black Cocoon’."

Gu Qiye shrugged helplessly, choosing Black Cocoon while operating the controller.

You Ruirui also operated her controller and selected "Ghost Bell." She and Gu Qiye leaned their heads close together, silently watching the character avatars on the selection screen disappear one by one, then entered the combat interface as characters from both sides jumped in from the screen edges.

Black Cocoon descended from the sky, suspended by restraint belts, cocooning itself completely and hanging quietly under a streetlamp; Ghost Bell summoned a huge Clock Tower behind him, let out a long howl skyward, breathing heavily through a metallic mask.

The cocoon slowly split open, with Black Cocoon holding a book. Simultaneously, a health bar and a power-up gauge for ultimate moves appeared above both characters’ heads.

At this point, Gu Qiye could no longer hold it in while watching Ghost Bell on the screen.

He hesitated for a moment and couldn’t help but ask, "Why did you choose ’Ghost Bell’?"

"Based on my analysis, you care so much about Ghost Bell because you feel regret for not beating him yourself, for unfinished vengeance," You Ruirui said. "So, I think you can defeat him a few more times in the game to overcome your psychological shadow."

She paused, "Though I’m a pro, I’ll go easy on you."

Gu Qiye was inwardly amused. He took a deep breath and said meaningfully:

"Alright, then I am going for revenge."

With these words, he controlled Black Cocoon to shoot out restraint belts to bind the streetlamp, swinging forward and kicking Ghost Bell in the chest.

"Ugh—!" On the screen, Ghost Bell let out a scream.

The shadow beneath Ghost Bell suddenly rose. He and the shadow attacked Black Cocoon from both sides.

Gu Qiye raised an eyebrow, thinking, does this game even include my dad’s shadow powers?

Seeing Ghost Bell and the shadow closing in for an attack, he mashed the controller buttons frantically, causing Black Cocoon’s restraint belts to be covered with layers of silver blades.

In an instant, Black Cocoon spun the restraint belts at high speed, forming a storm of blades that repelled Ghost Bell and his shadow.

"Ugh—!" On the screen, Ghost Bell screamed again.

Black Cocoon grabbed Ghost Bell with its restraint belts, lunging forward and stealing Ghost Bell’s superpowers, summoning a huge Clock Tower.

With a "bang," the Clock Tower descended from the sky, smashing onto Ghost Bell’s head just as he was crawling up from the ground.

"Ugh—!" On the screen, Ghost Bell screamed once more, pinned under the Clock Tower and unable to rise, lying in a pool of blood.

A moment later, his proud head drooped to the ground, and the health bar above him finally hit zero.

You Ruirui fell silent for a while, and Gu Qiye also remained silent for a while.

The two sat in silence, watching the screen without speaking for quite some time.

The game entered the victory settlement screen as Black Cocoon stood on Ghost Bell’s corpse, doing a flamboyant hula dance and occasionally using the restraint belts as jump rope. Ghost Bell’s back was lined with footprints, the corpse sinking further into the pit.

After a long while, You Ruirui turned her head and asked with concern, "So how do you feel? Do you feel much better now?"

Gu Qiye tore his gaze away from Ghost Bell in the game, let out a long exhale.

"It indeed feels a lot better, thank you for considering my feelings." He looked up and spoke deeply.

"If you’re not satisfied, we can do a few more rounds," You Ruirui said. "I’ll keep choosing Ghost Bell for you to beat."

"Well, I really... thank you for that."
