Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Axel Point Of View

I have to tell her before we are married, but how? The she-wolves have taken her to prepare for the wedding and the burial of my father. She will hate me if I am not the one to tell her everything. I want her to understand that this pack did kill her parents, but it was under a different Alpha. My father changed this pack. We are not the same pack we once were.

"Axel," a small voice calls out to me. I turn to see Mya.

"Mya, how are you?" I say, smiling and happy to see my cousin.

"I came as soon as I heard about Alpha. I am sorry I was not here for your mother when he passed," Mya says.

My cousin left the pack eight years ago to attend medical school. She met a wolf from the Upper Creek Pack, also a doctor, and never returned to Shadow Creek.

"I understand. You have a lot on your plate with the new family. We understand. I am happy to see you. Have you met Chole?" I ask her.

Mya looks saddened as I ask her about Chole. "No, but she is why I am here. I wanted to be here when you told her the truth, and I hope you plan to do it before you marry her, Axel. Do not make the mistake of letting her find out from someone else, like your mother or me," Mya says.

Mya looks through me in a way that I know she is right. This cannot wait another moment. "How did you know?" I ask her.

Mya looks to the doorway, and standing there is my mother. "She told me," Mya answers. My mother, of course, the bitter luna. Of course, now that my father is dead, she will become a monster. I know she is a bitch and always has been, but now she wants to destroy my happiness, but why?

"I am going to tell her, Axel. I plan to tell her in great description everything that happened to her family, and then you can be just as miserable as I am," my mother says.

"Let me tell her," I protest.

I begin to growl at my mother. Mya joins my mother, but I do not understand why the two of them are so hell-bent on destroying me. One minute she is happy for me and wants me to have Chloe, and now she wants to ruin my happiness.

The growling attracts other wolves as my mother, and I fight to see who will tell Chloe about her parents. Jaylen, the head of my father's security team, enters the room. "What the hell is going on in here?" Jaylen asks.

"The former Luna is having a mental breakdown; take her and my cousin Mya to the infirmary to be checked out immediately," I say.

Mya and my mother protest as the security team removes both of them. Mya looks at me as the security team begins to take both her and my mother away. "You will pay for this," Mya growls at me.

"I know," I whisper.

Chloe runs into the room. She is already in a white slip, and her hair is half curled. She was preparing for our wedding when she heard the noise and came to check on me.

"What is going on?" she asks me.

"Everyone out of the room," I growl loudly. I wait for the room to clear out before I turn my attention back to Chloe.

She is waiting not so patiently as the room clears out. "We have to talk," I say to her. I sit down on the sofa at the back wall of the room. I pat the seat next to me for her to sit down.

"Why aren't you getting ready for your father's burial, our wedding, and your damn Alpha ceremony?" Chloe asks me.

Chloe sits down beside me. "Because there is something we have to talk about, something I have been trying to tell you. It has to be said," I say to her.

Chloe looks at me, and her eyes begin to fill with tears. "You do not love me?" she asks me.

The heartbreak on her face and in her eyes pulls me to pieces. I know when I tell her the truth about her parents, she will hate me, and this will be it for us. I lean into her and kiss her. "I love you more than anything, Chloe," I say to her.

Her hand moves over my face so gently. "Then tell me what it is so we can move on, and we can get married and be happy my Alpha," Chloe says. She smiles.

"The Shadow Creek Pack murdered your parents," I blurt it out. Chloe backs away from me for a moment. I am not sure how to react. I grab her and pull her to me. She begins to pull away harder from me.

"No!" she screams.

"It was not my father. It was under a different Alpha. Please, we are a different pack now," I say to her.

She gets up from the sofa and begins to walk to the door. She looks back for a moment. Does she forgive us? Me? Will she still marry me? Chloe looks down at the ring on her finger, her engagement ring. She walks over to me as I stand to fight for her.

"Please stay with me," I beg her. She places her hand on my face so sweetly and gently. She takes my mouth and kisses me sweeter than she has ever kissed me.

"I love you, Axel," Chloe says. She reaches down, removes the ring from her finger, and places it in my hand.

"Chloe, do not do this," I beg her.

"You lied to me," Chloe says to me.

She is right. I did lie to her. I should have told her from the beginning. The minute I knew she was my mate, I should have told her the truth. Now, what will I do without her?

I sit back down on the sofa as Chloe leaves the room. She is gone, and there is nothing I can do about it.
