Rebecca’s Ward

“Are you okay after sleeping?” Julia asked with a concerned face.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Rebecca slowly got up to her sitting position.

“Good,” Julia warmly smiled and moved her pillow up to help her back.

Edwin knocked on the door to get their attention when they were in mid-conversation. While Sam stood beside him with a small smile on his face.

Rebecca first turned and noticed them while Julia after adjusting her pillow turned to see them.

Edwin tries to give Rebecca a small smile; in return, she did the same to him.

“You are both already back,” Julia first breaks the silence with her words as she thought, they will not be here this soon.

Edwin and Sam walk first inside and then Sam responds to Julia with a big smile, “Yes, my boss can not stay far from Ms Rebecca for long, so as soon as he completed his rest, he instructed me to drive here back.”

Sam’s words made Rebecca look at Edwin who was not looking tired but there was a satisfied expression on his face.

She silently looks at him when Julia's next words get her attention, “That’s good you and Mr. Edwin come here, I need to tell you both something.” Saying that she looked in both men's directions while her facial expression got serious.

Rebecca’s calm expression changed into a frown.

“What do you want to tell?” Sam’s brows twisted with curiosity.

While her words made Edwin follow his eyes from Rebecca to her.

Knowing what her friend's words were, Rebecca tries to stop her, she knows what her words are about, “Julia, No.” she whispered slowly, moving her hand to touch Julia’s arm and trying to shake her head to gesture that she didn't say anything.

Edwin's brow deepened while all forehead lines showed up at this moment to notice Rebecca and Julia's interaction.

Now he turned more eager to know what Julia wanted to tell and why is Rebecca trying to stop Julia from speaking that.

“Ms. Julia, Just say, I’m listening.” Edwin walks to Julia and blocks Rebecca’s interaction with her, to get the real words from her.

Rebecca’s fingers clenched on her bedsheet feeling little anger at her friend. She doesn't want to tell Edwin about her step-family meeting. He is already doing everything, now she doesn't want to add more mess on his shoulder. But Julia not on behalf of her thoughts.

Julia let go of her hand from her arms and made a sorry expression before turning to Edwin and telling him everything.

“Mr. Edwin, today Rebecca’s step-family came to meet her.”

Edwin's eyes widened with seriousness and he turned to look at Rebecca but she tried to avoid eye contact. While Sam walks to Julia with a frown face, “They dare to come?”

Julia nodded and added, “They not only come but try to emotionally blackmail Rebecca.”

Edwin's eyes darken as his face turned angrier, “And how's that?”

Julia looked at Rebecca who is now looking at the bedsheet. She turned and met Edwin’s angry gaze, “They told her if she did not take this case back her dad would break all relationship with her and never going to watch her face again.”

His hand turned into a fist in rage, “So, What do you respond to?” He turned to Rebecca and asked her directly.

Rebecca raised her head and met his eyes, “I denied them.”

Edwin saw how her eyes turned red when she said those words, so he responded with a tender voice to give her comfort, “You did right.”

Hearing him, She let her tears fall out and nodded to him, feeling comforted by his simple words.

Sam and Julia looked at each other to see their interaction and left the ward to let them get alone time to talk.

After they are gone, Edwin silently walks to the bed beside her and takes a seat on the chair. He looked at Rebecca who looked a little lost, so he looked at the water jar. He fills the glass with water and passes it to Rebecca.

“Are you okay?” His face filled with concern while he forwarded the hand with glass to her.

Rebecca sniffed and took the glass from him, “Yeah, I’ll be alright with time. It’s not like I'm no longer living with Dad.”

She drank the water while he looked at her with deep eyes. He can see how much she is hurt by her stepfamily’s words.

Her every single composed word carries lots of pain behind it which she’s trying to hold and he never wants to see her doing that while he is beside her. So, the next moment he finally pushed himself to say comforting words to her.

“Rebecca…” He touched her hand slowly. Rebecca flinched for a moment but soon got relaxed to feel his warm hand on her cold palm.

She slowly raised her eyelashes to meet his tender eyes while he started to speak with a soft tone, “Rebecca, I know you are hurt and you wanted to cry. so, please do that…”

“Do that on my shoulder.” Rebecca’s eyes never moved from him while he spark those words.

“Remember this, you are not alone, I’m with you, our baby is with you…We never leave you. we promise.”

His comforting words made Rebecca go all tears again and the next moment she without thinking any longer, hug him where her head rested on his chest to cry heavily, while Edwin slowly wrapped his arms around her in a protective manner and let her cry as much as she wanted without any disturbance. His hand caressed her back to make her feel secure and loved.
