Chapter 181: Chapter 181
At Night
"Rebecca, I saw Edwin's car standing outside our building."
"I think he comes to check on you." Julia got a big smile on her face as soon as she reported this news to Rebecca coming to her room.
Hearing the news of Edwin coming down from Julia. She immediately removed the blanket on herself and got out of the bed to check on him from the big window area.
She walked toward the window direction while Julia with a delighted face followed her.
When she arrived there, she looked down to see his car and soon she found it down there. She tried to see if he was inside but from her direction, she couldn't say exactly.
However, this wish was also fulfilled when she caught him coming from another direction with his phone.
"He should be on call," Julia spoke out from beside her as she also noticed him coming like her.
Rebecca just nodded and moved back inside. Julia also walks behind her.
Edwin raised his head to check on her apartment window in simple wish to see her before leaving.
Julia looked at Rebecca's expression which was just not calm. She could sense seeing Edwin many things going on in her mind.
"Rebecca, I think, this is the right time to talk to him about what you decide for him." Listening to her friend, She turned and raised her brows with seriousness.
"What are you saying? Right now?" Rebecca doesn't think she can do that.
"Yes!"
"Now!" She crossed her arms and looked at her with a strict stare.
"But, I'm not ready." Rebecca bit her lower lips as her hands clenched on her dress corner with turmoil.
Julia sighed to see her like this and let her hands down to go toward her.
She touched her shoulder and gently asked, "What happened?"
Rebecca looked at her and expressed, "I'm nervous. I don't know how I should talk with him…"
Julia squeezed her shoulder to show her support.
"It's alright."
"You will be fine." She tries to console her.
"He is already here and I truly think it's the right time for you to speak with him."
"But..." Rebecca shrugged.
"Listen, babe, there is no right time to come if you wait for it. You need to do it and make that time right for you."
Rebecca soon realized her words were true.
"He is already here. Why don't you just go and talk with him? Or, if you want, I'll go down there and invite him to come to our apartment. So, you both can talk."
Rebecca nervously thinks about the way her and Edwin's conversation always ended. Now it's awkward to think about talking to him about her decision to solve everything between them.
She doesn't know how she would start her talk or how he would react. Will he be happy? Or think she just doesn't want to give him a chance?
"Hey! What are you thinking so deeply when I'm talking to you?" Julia's voice brought her out of her thinking mind and glanced at her.
"Nothing. I just think you are right." Hearing her Julia's lips curled up.
"Good! It means you are ready to talk."
Rebecca only nodded in response.
"So, should I go and call him at our apartment to meet you? I can go for a small walk until then. What did you say?"
Hearing her suggestion she didn't reply at once but went to the window again. Julia curiously followed her there.
After arriving she looks down at the car in silence before finally shaking her head in denial and looking at Julia, "No, you don't need to do that."
"What? Then how will you talk to him?" Julia asked.
Rebecca maintained silence while her eyes glanced at the car again.
Julia followed her stare and realized something.
"It means, are you going to meet him down there?" Julia's smile turned wider.
"Yes, I'll go and meet him by myself to talk."
Rebecca's tone turned serious.
Julia could not hold herself but said, "Babe, I like your confident self."
While Rebecca gave a tiny smile to her and then focused her gaze on the car.
Edwin lit the cigarette while sitting in his driving seat and inhaled a breath before letting his finger move with the cigarette to his lips.
He takes a long puff from it like it's the only thing that made him feel alive right now. While blowing it in the air with a heavy soul.
He looked at the smoke which slowly started to fade up just like his spirit.
He looked into her building directly from the front glass but still, there was no sign of her coming around the window.
He sighed helplessly and took another shot of the cigarette hopelessly.
"Can I ever get her back?" He mumbled to himself and felt nothing was working out for him.
The way things go on, the distance between them gets bigger.
He didn't know how long he could follow her like this. Will she ever give him a chance to solve everything?
He looked at his cigarette with dull eyes before moving it to again his lips and puffing from it.
With this, he already spent the two cigarettes and is now using a third. He doesn't realize how long he spends smoking but when he glanced at his cigarette finally, it almost turned half ashes.
He casually used his arms to go outside the window to let the ashes fall.
After it's done. He pulled his arms inside the car and turned his head to look straight. While his hand automatically moved to his lips to smoke.
However, before his cigarette could touch his lips again. He falls stunned to see Rebecca standing in front of his car. His heartbeat thumped.
For a moment he even thought. It is just an illusion or an open-eyed imagination. Yet when a minute passed and she was still present there in front of his eyes. He finally acknowledges her presence.
His eyes filled with so many deep emotions at this minute. Like he has not seen her for a long time. While he saw her in the morning.
He looked at her through his front glass while on the other side, Rebecca also watching him through it. The way their eyes meet is almost enough to create an unimaginative scenario around them.
Where Edwin carried a quiet expression. On the other side, Rebecca almost awkwardly stood in her place maintaining a pacific gaze without showing her true nervousness right there.
Her heart is thumping wildly to go back because of the pressure of his presence and stares, but as he already noticed her and she comes down to short out the things between them. She should not run away.
Edwin shortly gets out from his long pause and opens the car door the next moment to get out of it.
Rebecca silently watched his action.
He began walking towards her. While she felt her heart fluttering rapidly. Her eyes could not move from his face as it looked serious and quiet to her.
When he was a few steps away from her, he finally stopped walking and glanced at her.
Her lips pressed tightly as her hand almost got tightened its clench on her dress corners.
"Rebecca…" He wanted to speak and asked her if she was okay. But before he could speak further he noticed her irritated expression and the next moment, he saw her covering her nose and mouth with a hand. It's like she smelled something bad to react like that.
At first, he didn't understand what she smelled. But soon he felt a burning sensation on his thumb and he looked down at his hand where he still holds a cigarette's burning last straw.
He instantly let it go from his hand and smashed it beneath his shoes to let the smoke stop.
Rebecca noticed everything quietly and saw how fast he took action for her.
On the other hand, after watching the smoke disappear, he raised his head and looked at Rebecca with guilty eyes, and apologized, "Sorry, are you okay?"
While she stared at him calmly and nodded without getting uneasy any longer.
She was no longer nervous to interact with him.
She guesses his small action made her like this.
Edwin noticed something around her changed. He could not guess but he could sense that or her coming by herself in front of him made him think like that.
When Rebecca finally broke the silence first and asked him, "What are you doing here at this time?"
Her words made him think in two ways…
Where she just asks generally or in other words she just comes to tell him to go back as she doesn't like him to be here.
And he didn't take to think what she meant. The second thought made him realize. This should be the only reason that she comes down by herself to say that.
That he doesn't need here.
"Edwin," Rebecca called his name to see him suddenly lost after she questioned him generally to start the conversation. But watching him turn silent, she felt uncertain and tried to call him.
However, Edwin felt she wanted him to tell now go back to where he came from. So, without letting her speak more.
He told her by himself, "You don't need to be angry by watching me here. It's not good for your health and I…" He shrugged.
"I just came to see you and as I can see you are fine. I'll leave now by myself without disturbing you any longer or letting you stand here."
Rebecca's eyes winded in amazed hearing his words.
Her eyes paused on his face while he was speaking with a serious and hurting tone. Like her words hurt him in any way.
"Now, I should leave. Bye." He instantly finished his words and without giving her a chance to speak turned to leave.
He almost reached the car door.
Rebecca felt troubled and anxious to watch him leave like this. At first, she was confused about how to start a conversation. But now watching him go like this with a hurting expression.
She felt bad and soon took a chance to speak quickly to stop him from going.
"Edwin! I don't mean that."
"Please stop!"
Edwin's hand already gets on the car door when her words stopped him midway to do that and turned towards her to meet her serious gaze.
Watching his deep gaze on her she felt embarrassed for a moment. She felt like his gaze could be seen through her heart and her mind.
"Then what do you want to say?" He intensely asked her without moving from his position. While his eyes concentrated on her without moving at all. Captured every reaction made by her in the last few minutes. As soon as he questioned her why he needed to stop?
Rebecca inhaled a long deep breath and after exhalation, she held his stare again, "We need to talk. There is something I want to tell you."
Edwin's forehead which was plain all the time soon shrinks to hear her words and the way she said. It's a serious conversation.
Now he doesn't know if he should be happy that she finally came by herself to talk to him or scared that she would ask him to leave her alone and this time it's like bidding goodbye forever. He doesn't realize but this thought upset him to the core.
He was feeling restless to get to know what she wanted to talk about with him. However, even though his thoughts were messy, his expression tried to maintain not exploring his inner fear.
"Alright." He pushed the car door to lock again while his one hand went to his pants pocket.
He could only hope his insecurity didn't get real at this moment. She doesn't ask him to leave her and the baby.
