Chapter 40: Chapter 40

“What did you say?” Reign asked in a taut manner. I looked at him, and he was giving this expression of being nervous and angry. I think it’s because of what Thraia said earlier.

“I-I was the one who p-poisoned the miss, master,” Thraia repeated what she said earlier. I confusedly looked at her.

“What are you saying?” I couldn’t believe what Thraia have said. I gently held her shoulders, that was constantly going up and down because she was crying endlessly.

“It’s true. I’m the one who put poison on your food because I know that teriyaki is your favorite, and that’ll be the first thing you will eat inside the grand event. That was the kind of person you were,” she said without looking at me.

I was stunned. I don’t know if Thraia was telling the truth or not. I remember that she didn’t eat when I invited her to join me that night, but this doesn’t mean she put poison on my food.

“No killer admires the one she wanted to kill, and you just admired what kind of person I am. So what are you trying to imply, Thraia? Why are you putting yourself in the killer spot?” I asked, suddenly raising Thraia’s face. Her eyes softened when she sees my face, and I couldn’t stand what I was feeling right now. I don’t know why I was hurt just seeing her being like this.

Thraia did not answer and immediately returned, her head being low. She continued to cry, but now, she was holding herself to keep the sob coming out from her mouth. Letty came over to lead Thraia to her feet from falling to the floor.

I also stood up properly as Letty accommodated Thraia to stand but kept her head bent and continued to sob weakly.

“Are you sure about your confession?” I quickly turned to Reign. I shuddered to see the stare he was throwing at Thraia. His blue eyes were like at the time when we are in the ocean.

Despite the difficulty of moving, Thraia was still able to look at Reign. I felt sorry for her exceedingly when Thraia’s whole body trembled at the sight of Reign’s expression, even though I was scared.

“Yes, master,” Thraia answered without letting her words stutter. I saw how Thraia bites her lips to suppress her emotions. I was about to say something when Reign aggressively walked towards Thraia and hold her by the arms with a strong force.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” I don’t know, but I suddenly ran towards them and snatched Thraia from Reign’s hand. I don’t know, but I’m nervous about Reign’s action, and I can’t raise my voice on him.

I grabbed Thraia and gently hid her behind me. I heard her faint moan and shiver. I don’t know why my eyes were teary over on what’s happening right now. I don’t want to accept what Thraia said because it’s too far from the truth.

Also, Thraia was the first person who relieved me out of boredom and talked to me inside this place. Even though I don’t know if she wants me to be her friend or not, I don’t want anything wrong to happen to her. I already cherish her, and I don’t care what will happen after a trigger Reign’s actions.

“What I was doing?” Reign asked while controlling his voice from rising. I can see how his jaw moved, and he was this angry already, “You, what are you doing? This maid poisoned your food. Why are you hiding her from me then?” Reign’s blue eyes intensified.

I don’t know what to answer and how to erase the anger in Reign’s eyes, but I also don’t want to let him take Thraia. I’m scared.

“We have no evidence that Thraia herself poisoned me,” I felt Thraia’s grip tighten on my hands. I knew she was holding me back and letting Reign take her, but no.

“Let her go,” said Reign with his rugged baritone voice, “Let her go, Ruchee,” he repeats when I still haven’t let go of Thraia.

“Until there’s no solid evidence, I won’t let go Thraia’s hand. She’s innocent,” my defense.

“You want evidence? She already told using her mouth. She confessed about her sin of poisoning you! What else do you want as a shred of evidence?” I looked at Reign and then shrugged my head.

“Human words are sometimes addictive, Reign. You, yourself, can tell the truth or not. You know Thraia for a long time, don’t you? Why don’t you try to look at the bigger picture before you judge her?”

Reign let out a faint laugh. He looks upwards then turned his deep blue eyes on me that made me shivered, “Yes. I know her,” he then peeks a look at my back then returned his eyes to me, “But I already forgot about her the moment she said that she’s the one which almost ended your life. I won’t force you to give her to me,” he said. I thought he was done talking, “Elliot,”

When Reign said the name, the door of the dining hall suddenly opened. I saw Elliot and five other men in black came inside. They walk in our direction.

“Get Thraia out of my woman’s hands,” as soon as the words parted Reign’s mouth, two of his men immediately moved to take Thraia away from me, but I resisted.

“Why do you believe Thraia’s word? Don’t you sense that she’s lying!” Reign didn’t answer and immediately looked behind me. When I turned around, Thraia was looking at me weakly.

“What kind of poison did you used to Ruchee’s food?” Reign asks. My eyes remained on Thraia while she was staring at me.

Please, answer it. Say you don’t know. This alone will prove that you are innocent. That you are just lying, and you’re not the one who wants to kill me.

“Anticoagulant rodenticides,” my breathing suddenly stopped at what I was heard from Thraia’s lips. She smiled and me and then looked at my back. She had direct eye contact with Reign, “I used rat poison to kill the miss completely, master,” I felt like my world collapsed at the moment I heard Thraia’s last word.

“Take her,” Reign said. I felt Thraia let go of my hands. I could no longer move from my stand as Reign’s men pulled Thraia away from my grip.

I just stared until they reached the dining hall’s door. Before Thraia finally came out and disappeared from my eyes, she mouthed ‘thank you’ as a reason to shed the tears that I had been holding back.

“Why?” I asked as soon as Thraia left with Reign’s men. Reign didn’t answer.

“Take Ruchee to her room, Letty,” Reign said and then suddenly faced Elliot, “Come with me,” Elliott didn’t say any word, and then he looked at me but just then, he avoided his gaze the moment I looked back at him.

Reign and Elliot walked to the door. I felt Letty approached me, but I ignored her. I said a lot, but Reign didn’t seem to hear even one. Before Reign could even get out of the dining hall, I shouted.

“You are ruthless!” It made Reign stopped, but he didn’t look back. It took a few seconds for Reign to altogether leave the place.

My knees weakened, and I immediately sat down on the floor. A loud cry escaped from my trembling mouth. Elliott was right.

Reign is ruthless than a devil!
