Chapter 39: Chapter 39

“Where’s Thraia?” I asked when one of the maids go to my room to fetch me for lunch. It’s been a month since I was poisoned, and the doctor has left for the final check-up. He said that I don’t have to wait for another few months because the poison in my body has completely disappeared.

Reign stopped Doctor Greg and asked to have lunch here first, but the doctor rejected the offer because he still had something to take care of. Speaking of Reign, I closed my eyes and giggled. I don’t know, but I started to get to know him.

“She was on leave Miss,” I suddenly fixed myself. I forgot I had someone with me inside this room. I let out a deep sigh and face the maid. Fortunately, I barely turned my back on her earlier.

“Why?” I asked because I didn’t know she had left. I saw her last week inside the house, but I noticed something strange about Thraia, she seems to be avoiding me, and now she was on leave without bothering to tell me. I thought we are already friends.

She just shrugged her head, “Thank you. Could you wait outside? I just changed my clothes,” I said. She just nodded while the maid’s head bent low. Without any words, she left me in this room.

I let out a frustrated sigh. I don’t know what’s going on with Thraia. After I got poisoned and the moment I saw her, she seemed to be avoiding me. Even if she didn’t say it, I knew there was a problem. I consider her a friend even though I don’t know what she thinks of me or wants me to be her friend.

I need to talk to Thraia. Something was off about her these past few days. I wonder what could have happened? I let out a deep sigh again and erased the things inside my mind.

I looked around to see where I was. The whole place was painted blue. This place is Reign’s room, and since I got poisoned, he never sent me back to the space reserved for me. Whether I like it or not, he doesn’t want it. I have left no choice but to follow since I wanted to be close to him.

I admit that I want to be close to Reign, but I’m still not sure why. Since I occupied his room, I don’t know where he sleeps, but I don’t have to worry anymore. He is a billionaire and the owner of this big house. Why do I have to worry about things that I know are nonsense?

I picked up the clothes lying on the bed, and I was about to go into the bathroom to get myself dressed when I noticed something in the drawer near the bedside table. A walk-in closet, bed, drawer, lampshade, hanging frame, bedside table, digital clock, glass window on the right covered by a curtain, and only bathroom filling Reign’s room. And the space of the room is quite ample.

I was surprised because the drawer next to the bed was left open. I hadn’t noticed this earlier. What caught my attention is the picture frame enclosed. Since curiosity already filled my body, I have no choice but to relieve it out on myself.

I approached and immediately grabbed the drawer to pull out and open it completely. I grabbed the enclosed picture frame and immediately presented it. I felt that my own feet were nailed to where I was standing.

I stared intently while holding the frame and what it’s contained. I looked at it intently, and maybe I was just mistaken in what I saw. But I wasn’t. My heart beats faster, and every of my breath slowed. I do not know why this thing happened.

I suddenly sat on the bed while holding the dress and picture frame. How? My knees were trembling when a thought came to my mind. I take another look at the picture frame.

How did Reign have a picture of me when I graduated high school?

The nervousness in my chest grew more substantial. Isn’t it all a coincidence? I was enveloped with the feeling that I wanted to know Reign more in astonishment. How did he have this picture of mine wearing a graduation gown and smiling along with my sister?

I suddenly heard a knock from the door, causing me to be startled, “Miss Are you done?”   To my surprise, I stand and immediately put the frame back in the drawer.

“Please wait for a minute! I’m coming,” I said, keeping the nervousness from leaking into my voice. I walked to the bathroom, but I immediately went back to the drawer. I opened it and immediately repositioned the frame, and left it slightly open.

I was fascinated by Reign. Once again, I doubt Reign’s purpose in buying me in the auction and bringing me here to his island. But the only difference is, it’s not giving me uncomfortable feeling anymore.

When I finished getting dressed, I immediately left the room. I saw the maid; she was standing beside the door while waiting for me.

“I’m sorry for taking a long time,” she just nodded her head.

“It’s okay, miss; you don’t need to apologize. The master is waiting downstairs,” she said while keeping her head bowed.

“I told you that you don’t need to bo--” I cut my own words when I realized what I was saying.

“Pardon, miss?” the maid asked me, then take a look but then put her head low again. I shrugged and let out a healthy smile.

“It’s nothing. Let’s go,” I just said. The maid didn’t say a word and started to walk ahead of me. I don’t know, but I see Thraia. When I thought of her, I feel suddenly nervous.

Where are you? What’s happening, Thraia?

When I got downstairs, I saw Reign sitting in front of a long table while the food was being served in front of him. He was holding a newspaper, and when he saw me, he immediately folds it down and put it aside.

Reign pulled a chair for me when I approached the table. I didn’t hesitate. After I sat down, I looked at him. Suddenly, what I had discovered earlier entered my mind, but I just shook off that thought. There’s a time to ask him for that thing, and it wasn’t now.

“What took you so long?” Reign gently asked and then moved his chair. He then stared his blue eyes at me.

“I’m sorry. I took a lot of time changing my clothes,” I lied. Because of what I learned, you’re keeping a picture of mine from a long time ago. What do you think you’re doing, Reign?

“That’s fine. Let’s eat,” Reign said as he turned his gaze to the food. I didn’t say any words. Reign’s pit food on my plate made me smile secretly. Honestly, I never thought this would happen between the two of us.

In the middle of eating, Letty interrupted us, “Master,” the maid’s head called Reign. He suddenly looks back to respond to Letty.

“What is it?” Reign said while chewing. Letty gave me a look and immediately returned her eyes to Reign. I saw Letty hesitated at first.

I returned my eyes to the front and was about to eat when I was stopped by what Letty said to Reign, “Thraia was here. She wants to say something on both you and the miss,” I immediately looked at Letty.

“She’s here?” I asked while putting down the spoon and fork I was holding. Letty just nodded.

“She asked for leave, right?”

“Yes, master, but I don’t know what her reason to be here,”

“Let her in,” Letty immediately left, and a moment after, she came back with Thraia.

When I turned around, it was as if I had been kicked eight times. There’s an excessive pain in my chest when I saw Thraia’s sore eyes and she wearing the casual clothes of an islander.

I was even more surprised at what she did next. Thraia suddenly knelt in front of that surprise of the three of us. I got up and immediately approached her when she suddenly started crying. I was hurt to see what was happening to Thraia.

“I-I’m s-sorry m-miss,” she said while crying and stuttering.

“For what?” I confusedly asked her. My heart can’t take it when Thraia suddenly looked at me. Her miserable smiles broke me into pieces. And what broke me more is the confession she bestowed upon me.

“I was the one who poisoned you,”
