Chapter 25: Chapter 25
“Get another lifeboat ready,” Reign said as he cocked his handgun then looked at me. He took me by the right arm and gently guide me to stand because I was still sitting, “and we will hold the enemy here to protect my woman,” the words he added made me blush, but I was confused.
Why does he keep me from becoming his woman and saying those words? Is this the sole reason why he brought me to the auction?
“Yes, boss,” I turned my gaze on Reign’s back. One of his men was already preparing another lifeboat. Reign was truly authoritative in all his subjects. Everything that comes out of his lips is immediately followed by them.
“Look at me,” said Reign. I was surprised as he gently touched both my cheeks and turned my face to him, “Do you how to paddle?” he asked while his blue eyes were staring at me intensely. I left no choice but to nod.
Actually, I do not know-how. If ever, this will be my first time paddling in my life. But I was born to become independent, and I know that I will figure everything out.
“I will figure something about it,” I said and refrained from stuttering. I feel like something terrible is going to happen.
Disapproval for my answer showed on his face. He stared at me intently. He seemed to be wondering if he would let me paddle for myself, and he seems to have no confidence about me, taking my life away from this danger. Not because I would run away but if I could reach the shore alive and whole.
He looked behind me. I would like to have a look, too, but he immediately restrained me by the jaw. There’s so much way to stop me; why did he even trip that part of my face?
“Listen,” he adjusted his hand, holding the gun so that it would not stick to my cheeks, “you have to leave here with that lifeboat,” he added and looked to our side where the neat lifeboat was parked. I just nodded because I have no choice.
“Do you see them?” Reign asked as he turned his gaze on the other side while he was still holding my cheeks. I also turned my face on the side he was pointing; it was where something was approaching our direction. It looks like a speedboat, “They are bad guys,” after he said that, I immediately looked at him.
“Bad guys?” I confusedly asked, “Why would there be people like them chase us?” I added. Even when there’s something that enters my mind, I don’t want to take the lead. I wanted to make sure that I was right about what I was thinking about Reign’s personality.
This is the first time I want to interfere in other people’s lives, so I will overdo that because, by the time I escape from his hands and this place, I will definitely leave everything I know here. If there is.
I could see in his eyes the hesitation to answer me. So I preceded him, “No need to answer me. You don’t have the obligation anyway,” I said to release him from the tight spot.
I just stared at his blue eyes. I was reluctant to not stare for the past opportunities, but I was already exchanging a direct look from those blue and burning eyes.
He sighs and suddenly pressed his lips on my forehead. I was left standing and dumbfounded, “I will tell you everything about it, but after you and I get out of here safely,” my heart beats furiously as he hugged me, “What matters now is your safety,” he broke the hug and then stare at me with concern, “Remember. Paddle until you reach the shore. Some of my men will be waiting for you there,” I just nodded my head.
I don’t want to answer nor let something came out of my mouth. Actually, I had more questions forming inside my mind, but I lost my appetite because I definitely had no answer. And another thing, what right do I have to ask Reign?
I should be grateful because he brought me out from the auction, take care of me, and helped me preserve my life earlier. This is too much to ask. Maybe, I’ll stop making plans to escape. Undoubtedly, the time will come when he will free me from his own place.
Maybe, after this incident, I’ll just ask Reign for help. If I can’t escape, I will just let him know I have a sister since she was the only reason I wanted to run away.
Also, after this day and we leave this ocean safely, I will work with him to return the favor. Anything that can pay off everything he did for me.
My body was shaking from the cold and wetness. Reign put his right hand with a gun into the side. He uses his free hand to lead my way towards the lifeboat floating in the sea.
He helped me get off to board the lifeboat. When I finally got away from their steppingstone, I immediately sat down. My boat suddenly grinds a bit, but I managed to balance it right away. Everything that happens now is new to me.
The blue towel was still wrapped around my body. My hands also lost the mid heels I was holding earlier. What a pity!
Whatever kind of world I entered, I had to stand up along with it because I was already involved with them, with Reign. I have no interest in other people, but I don’t know why I feel this now, taking a claim.
Was it because he took me out of the auction? Was it because he saved my life, or was there some other reason? Even I don’t know why.
I secretly shook my head to erase the thoughts lurking around my mind. I need to focus on getting out here first before anything else. The main goal is to get out of here, for Reign’s sake. I was shocked at my own thought, but I ignored it.
“Go,” I turned my gaze to Reign. His stance was telling that he was ready for a gunfight. I felt nervous and scared; what if something will happen to him? I shrugged my head again. Nothing will happen since he was Reign.
And everything that was happening to me right now was a mystery, but I can answer everything on my own, and it’s up to me to find the answers.
I nodded and reached for the paddle that was placed beside me. I positioned it beside the lifeboat, and it perfectly touched the water. I’m not sure if I can do this, but I need to. Right now, I only need to depend on surviving and getting out of this ocean.
I started to paddle, but I didn’t move an inch. When I looked at the end of the boat, the tow ring was entangled on Reign’s lifeboat. I was about to let go of the paddle when Reign suddenly jumps into the water.
He swims towards the edge of my boat and then fixed the tow ring that was mixed to mine, then he swam to where I was sitting. I don’t know what he thought when he suddenly smiled at me.
“Paddling yourself will not make me at ease,” he said and then swam towards the other side of the boat. I don’t know what he was doing when he reached the other part, and I was surprised when he started the outboard engine.
“I don’t know ho--”
“Don’t worry, Ruchee. It will just take you away from us, and if the distance is already right, it will stop, and you will row out of the ocean,” he said.
“Why do you say my name in such a sweet manner?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“Because your name is so lovely as you,” he grins. His expression made me stop when I realized something, “and I can do everything for your safety even if it means that I need to disappear from the world,” he added.
I couldn’t move while staring at his face. Suddenly the engine made a noise and immediately started running away from Reign’s position.
I couldn’t move until I was a little farther away from him. I don’t know why but my heart suddenly goes into pain. It was like Reign was telling me something.
Is it a farewell?
