Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Approaching the low level gate, fancy wrought iron in a grey stone wall. The house is a simple country home, less desirable for being so far out of town. The front door, made of dark wood planks with black hinges spreading half way across, had that rustic appeal the rich city folk craved.

Inside it would be renovated, no expense spared, the charm of the country with every modern convenience of a penthouse suite. Before pressing the intercom she let her fingers walk over the rough stone walls, stone lifted from the very dales she'd grown up in.

Even in the warm spring sunshine there was a coolness to it. She let her eyes absorb the myriad of hues, all grey but made unique by their variance in minerals. She removed her hand and turned to press the button, but as her finger moved forward the door opened. Her professional smile was instant, her patter on autopilot.

The thought of Nuella all just coming back to me and all over the walls of my room was all filled up with a different kind of beautiful smile.

"Wrooong!!" My stomach tells me to feed it before it eventually leaves my body. "Maryam am hungry!!please!..." My voice echoing around the four corners of the house. "Give me a second Mr Rolland, your meal is almost ready" she replied right back.

It's been four years, eight months, two weeks and six days, since I lost the one person I loved so much, life haven't been better,I was tough on myself, gratefully am back to my feet and I feel like a man again, not some three year old boy who's trying to walk away from crawling.

"Breakfast is ready sir" Maryam said from downstairs.

In no time I was at the dinner table devouring the chilaquiles she took her time to make and uhmmmm I don't know how she learns how to make all this meal but mehn she is so fucking good.

Mark from nowhere appears and in no time there no trace of sweet corn in the chilaquiles Maryam took her morning to make

"Mark! God take a breath man, you're going to choke yourself to death" I said letting a small laugh, Mark and Maryam joined in, living with just these two have been a blessing, I sometimes wish I knew who my mom and Dad was, maybe a hint on if they were dead or alive.

I remember when I first met Mark, he was a very strict non_ nonsense man, hardly spoke to anyone, was always too serious,he was nothing close to fun, he was a yes or no man, as straightforward as he could be but now, I call him my buddy, we joke around and he calls me Sir,

I deserve an award, I let out a soft chuckle "What's the problem sir? Mark asked.

"Nothing exactly, just have some crazy stuff playing right in my head" I lied, well I won't actually call it a lie, I didn't just tell him what I was thinking about.

Maryam came in to take the dishes from the dinner table to the kitchen, we appreciated her for the meal and she gave a nod and walked straight back into the kitchen.

"Mark I'll want to talk to you" I watched his satisfied face from the meal turn to a very serious but yet a worried face.

"Is anything the matter boss?" He questioned

"Not exactly Mark, I was just thinking of falling out of the buzz, maybe not totally, I mean it been a very long year since I went out or do anything, I just want us to take a good rest from it,I want you to start something really legit" I told him picking out a cigar to light.

" But boss?..." He started but was quickly interrupted.

"No but Mark, you can't serve me your whole life,I want you to do something with your life,I mean you deserve it, and yes am gonna miss you but am sure you have a wife who have been dieing to get laid for some years now and some kids who needs some early morning kiss, don't you think" I said to him, puffing out the cigar.

"Yes boss but my duties to you are not..." He is trying to make things only difficult for me.

"Don't make this any difficult for me Mark, I'll send some money to you, go have a family and a nice life." I said choking on my words.

"Boss.." he continues.

" Nope, it's no more boss, yes Mark ,it's just Ethan, I think I should start getting used to that name." I said patting him on the shoulder, I turned to face him.

"Don't worry Mark, I'm gonna be fine,it's time for you to be happy too" I said, trying to really convince him.

" Are you sure you want this Ethan?" Mark asked, so worried about me.

I nodded not turning to face, didn't want him to know how I felt about this,I mean he deserves better.

"Alright boss,if this is what you want, I'll leave tomorrow" Mark said. "Uhmmm" is the only sound that escapes my throat.

"I'll miss you boss"Mark's cracky voice said. "Uhmmm" I repeated awkwardly.

"I guess this is our last day together, how about we do something fun tonight" he suggested. " And what is that" not looking at him, I puffed out the smoke of pure tobacco.

"I'll be back I have to talk to Maryam about this, you know she always great ideas" Mark said pretty much excited and before I could say no, he was out of sight,

"Hmm" I sighed softly,I miss her, I missed her so much. If wishes were horses, if only wishes were horses.
