Chapter 71: Chapter 71
Chapter 69
When I saw the trail leading to the North Snow Kingdom, my heart pumped so rapidly inside my chest. The familiar land feels like it has completed something in my broken hole. My bones are churning from the cold. I stood there watching the snow fall from the sky and cover the land.
"Wear this," Alpha Greyson said, handing me a black cloak to keep me warm. Before we got out of the car, I put on the black cloak. I looked up when I noticed the tall pine trees flanking the roadside.
"Someone will pick us up. He'll be here any minute now," Alpha Greyson said. I nodded and became curious as to who would come. My thoughts were interrupted when I noticed a carriage approaching. My lips parted when I saw the carriage's coachman. Is this true? I blinked twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things. But I wasn't! It's really Beta Miguel!
The carriage came to a halt; I'm still surprised because I didn't expect to see him right now! Beta Miguel dismounted and removed his hat to bow at us.
"I'm glad that you are both safe, your Majesty," he spoke. He raised his head to look at me. My heart prickled when I remembered the last time, I saw him. He is the reason I am still alive today. Dylan would have killed me if he hadn't come that night.
"It's good to see you again, Queen Luna," he said, bowing his head. I bit my lower lip. Every time I think about him, and now that I'm seeing him, I think about my beloved friend Shena. And guilt is still piercing my heart.
"H-How are you, Beta Miguel?" I can't stop myself from stammering. He gave me a friendly smile. A smile I didn't expect to see after what had happened.
"I'm no longer a Beta, your Majesty; you can just call me Miguel," he informed. I'm aware of this, but I'm used to referring to him as Beta. But I'll give it a shot. I gave him a nod.
"Did anyone see you leave?" Alpha Greyson asked. Miguel's gaze shifted to Alpha Greyson. I still can't stop staring at him.
"I made sure no one saw me so it'll be safe to come to the palace without anyone knowing," Miguel said, shaking his head.
Alpha Greyson nodded and drew me closer to the carriage. We rode there quietly while Miguel was outside to control the horses.
Alpha Greyson and I exchanged glances. "You didn't tell me Bet—Miguel was coming," I pointed out. He cocked his brow. "How could I tell you? We were busy," he said calmly. When I remembered what we did inside his car, my cheeks burned! I averted my gaze. I heard him chuckle. I sighed and rolled my eyes. Damn!
The carriage suddenly stopped. My brow furrowed in curiousness. Why stop while we aren't even in the palace? We heard someone when Alpha Greyson opened the carriage window.
"I'm sorry, but we're not bringing in anyone from outside the North Snow Kingdom right now," the man explained. "The Elders of the palace strictly enforced this." He's probably a palace guard.
"Why isn't the fact that we have an ID and live here enough to let us pass?" Miguel inquired.
"As you are aware, the Alpha King has not yet arrived in the kingdom, so the Elders are concerned that someone will infiltrate the palace in the absence of the Alpha King. In addition, if the Alpha King ever returns, the Elder wants to know right away," the palace guard explained.
Miguel couldn't do anything with the royal guard, no matter what he tried. That's why we came to a stop far from the kingdom's entrance.
"Those fuckers..." Alpha Greyson grumbled. Miguel turned to face Alpha Greyson. "Perhaps they just want to hold you in their arms and force you to marry the princess of Urzua," Miguel shrugged. What?
"What do you mean?" I questioned, surprised.
"I told you they want me to remarry; they believed you died and are now forcing me to marry someone, and they chose the princess of Urzua, the younger sister of the Alpha King of the Urzua Kingdom," Alpha Greyson spit out.
"Then... I just have to come back, right?" I'll inquire. Miguel let out a deep sigh. "Yes... but it will be difficult; you must first persuade them and explain what really happens; this is why Alpha Greyson wants to return without anyone knowing," Miguel answered.
"But... I can explain everything... I can do it, Alpha Greyson." I looked over at Alpha Greyson, who was deep in concentration. "I know you can do it, no doubt about it, but I don't trust the Elder who wants to control the palace; they'll do anything to twist the truth," Alpha Greyson stated.
"Twist the truth? Do you mean... they're going to make it seem like I did something wrong when I disappeared... like having an affair or something?" I confirmed. Alpha Greyson clenched his jaw, held my both hands and looked at me.
"But I promise... I'll protect you and always believe in you," Alpha Greyson promised. I agreed by nodding. I know that Alpha Greyson believes in me. I once doubt him before but now I am willingly entrusting him my entire life.
"So... what's the plan?" I asked. Alpha Greyson sat down and looked at Miguel.
"We're going into the forest. I know they won't hire palace guards there, especially since it's connected to Rema's Forest. They won't think anyone would enter that kind of place. We'll call Alpha Troy to help us. Once inside, we'll sneak inside the palace while Miguel looks after us. Following that, we will enter the conference room uninvited. We could exert authority in this manner. I don't want them to believe they have power over me. I'm the Alpha King after all," Alpha Greyson said confidently. A smile flashed on my lips.
There is no doubt about it: he is the Alpha King of North Snow Kingdom, and he will always be the Alpha of my heart.
