Chapter 11: Chapter 11

What I heard and saw astounded me. I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened earlier even while Gina and I were cleaning a room in the palace. I was aware of the rumors about Alpha Greyson being cruel, but I also understand that it is a leader's responsibility to be cruel and strong in the eyes of his subordinates so that no one despises him.

However, seeing the truth with my own eyes shocked me. I've long admired the Alpha King for his elegance and intelligence in all aspects of life, but I can't accept that he would sacrifice an innocent life to achieve his goal.

I had no idea that knowing the truth could be so painful. But it's funny how, even knowing the truth, I can't stop my heart from loving him. "I noticed you’re quiet the whole time?" Gina inquired.

"Because I can't get what happened earlier out of my mind," I admitted as I mapped the floor of the room, we were cleaning.

"Perhaps you're shocked because this is your first step here in the palace, but such a scene is still not worse than the ones I've seen before," Gina said, causing me to pause. My gaze was drawn to her. Is there anything worse than that?

"Alpha King Greyson was only a prince, but he was already known for his intelligence and ability to excel at everything, so, in addition to women, councilors and elders, particularly his father, admire him,” Gina recalled as she reattached the bed cover. I continued to pay attention to her.

"But you know something's off about him. He's emotionless. He is not afraid of blood or death, and he is unafraid of your tears. He can kill in an instant, without mercy, as if he doesn't have a conscience or anything. Once you've done something wrong, he'll never hesitate to kill you, and he won't even bother to listen to your explanation." Gina said.

Hearing all of this from Gina was like slapping me across the face with the realization that he was not the perfect prince I once imagined.

"Did you know that his mother was so concerned about Alpha Greyson's strange behavior that she summoned expert doctors to examine him when he was a child?"

"What? Is the Alpha King ill?” I asked, a little nervously.

"I'm not sure either, because if there was anything, the former Alpha King and Luna didn't say it or let it be known," Gina shrugged.

In that case, is it possible that the Alpha King is ill and acting this way as a result?

"I believe the Alpha King became worse after his parents died, which is why he plans to kill all the rogue's clans in the entire North Snow," Gina said.

"I understand his pain, but it's not right to use life to achieve his goal. That life is still his people, and a king must prioritize his people before his goal," I said as my opinion. Gina smiled at me.

"Are you really sure you are not of noble descent?" Gina inquired, a slight smile on her face.

"I'm an orphan, Gina. My parents died in the hands of rogues when I was ten; I'm definitely not," I said as a matter of fact. "You know, the way you look and the way you talk and carry yourself make me wonder which clan you come from. I'm not surprised Joy asked if you're from here or not," she said, looking away.

Do I really look that weird in this place? Shena has been telling me this for a long time, but I didn't notice it because we are both dirty and poor. But when I found out that Gina also noticed it, I am suddenly worried.

"Green-eyed people are considered foreigners in this land because the green-eyed clan does not live here,"

What is it about my eyes that distinguishes me from everyone else's? Yes, and it's noticeable that I'm the only one who has a strange eye here. People with blue or brown eyes are common here.

"But my parents lived here..." I only said.

"But, in any case, Yna and I are glad you're here; our friendship has grown. Don't worry, Amara; we don't care what clan you come from; the important thing is...you're our friend now," Gina said with a broad smile. I also smiled at her.

After we finished cleaning the room, it was time for lunch, and Gina and I went to the housekeeping quarter to receive work again, and I was so nervous when I found out that we were now assigned to prepare the Alpha King's lunch! Five of us were assigned, and Yna and Gina were included!

"Are you sure, Mrs. Clea, that I'll be among those preparing food for the Alpha king?" I inquired. She looked at me for a long time, "Why?" she asked. "You do not like it?” she inquired.

"Not because I don't want to, but..." I bit my lower lip. “It's only my first day—"

“A palace housekeeper never complains but is always determined and ready. If you're not into it, you'd better go leave and be a slave," Mrs. Clea said coldly. I quickly shook my head and accepted the order.

That is our housekeeping rule. When you accept the job, you have nothing to lose and can’t leave the palace anymore; however, if you want to leave or run away, you will be thrown away as someone's slave. And, of course, no one wants to be a slave.

"Why do you seem unwilling to serve the Alpha King's lunch?" Yna inquired as we made our way to the kitchen.

"Are you scared, Amara?" Gina inquired, knowing what was bothering me.

"I'm just afraid of making a mistake in front of your majesty," I explained.

"I'm sure you won't, Amara!" Yna assured me. I smiled at Yna because I appreciated her cheer for me.

We waited for the Alpha King cooks to finish cooking, and I felt the only tension among the five of us. When the food was finished, I tried to relax. I need to be okay. I shouldn't send whatever comes to mind to the Alpha King. Everything I feel is wrong.

We came out of the kitchen one by one to prepare the food when we heard a bell ring. I did everything Gina told me to do. We cleaned and decorated the table. It's incredible how well it turned out. I can't believe an alpha king eats this way. There was a lot of food, despite the fact that he knew he wouldn't be able to eat it all, and fancy decorations, despite the fact that he wouldn't notice our exhaustion and efforts.

We formed a line next to the large dining table, directly across from the guards. They appear to be eager to obey the Alpha King's every command. When I heard the alpha king's arrival signal, my heart started racing again. We all bowed when we sensed his presence in the dining area.

As I smelled his scent, I bit my lower lip. His scent is cool and minty, like a snow wind. I can't stop myself from becoming addicted.

We remained in a bow as we heard the Alpha king quietly eating.

"Miguel..." When I heard his cold voice, I felt a different cold wind on my skin. Damn! Why am I so affected?

"Yes, your Majesty?" Miguel inquired politely. "I want coffee," Alpha Greyson replied. So...Alpha Greyson drinks coffee at this time.

Why does hearing his voice seem to have made me forget everything Gina had told me?

"I will follow, Your Majesty," Miguel said, and I could hear him approaching us. I noticed him approaching Joan, one of the housekeepers we were with.

"Serve the coffee," Miguel said. Miguel's eyes narrowed when he noticed me staring at him. I quickly bowed and averted my gaze. What exactly am I doing? Damn!

"What's taking so long?" Alpha Greyson asked impatiently as Miguel walked back to the Alpha king's side. While my head was still bowed, I blinked twice. Long? Joan has just left!

"Find her, Kyle," Miguel told a guard. The guard swiftly followed and exited. Joan arrived a short time later with the coffee that the Alpha King had requested. My nerves were relieved because I could already sense his majesty's annoyance. I can see why everyone is afraid of him now.

Joan carefully approaches the Alpha King's side until...she takes a step forward and accidentally pours coffee on Alpha Greyson's chest!

Shit!

We all gasp and were shocked.
