Chapter 12: Chapter 12
It all happens so fast. Everyone's in their own state of panic. Besides me. I'm stun. Nothing makes sense anymore. My whole life was fine before I met Alpha Hughes, I was happy, and I didn't have a narcissistic werewolf trying to kill me. Philip doesn't know what to do. Dean doesn't know what to do. Alpha Hughes doesn't know what to do. We're all clueless.
"Should we just send her to the Dominican Republican now?"
"No! We still have three months."
"Well, explain that to Michael and Markus because I think they want all of us dead, right now."
"What are we gonna do, Jack?"
"I'm trying to figure this out."
"What are you trying to figure-"
"HOW WE HAVE A SOCIOPATHIC KILLER ABLE TO GET ON OUR TERRITORY WITH OUR DEAD BROTHER!"
"Well, damn, big bro."
"You dingus, why the hell would you ask that?"
"Shut up, Dean."
"You shut up!"
"No, you!"
"No, you!"
"No, you!"
"WILL BOTH OF YOU FUCKING SHUT UP!"
"Sorry, Alpha."
"Sorry, Jack."
The feud I've gotten used to. But that doesn't make it any less annoying. They fight like three five year-old brothers.
"What's the plan?" Dean sits down on the floor in a tired motion. I nod, seconding his question. "She can't leave the pack house. I don't mean the territory. Samantha, you're under strict lockdown. And yes, this is literally a life or death matter." Alpha Hughes has a serious look plastered onto his cold exterior. I listen to him.
That night is a cold night. I can hear the leaves swaying in the wind. Alpha Hughes isn't sleeping either. Maybe he's as scared as I am.
"Samantha?" He questions.
"Yes, Alpha?" I respond. "Are you tired?" Yes, but I can't sleep.
"No, are you?" I settle on an answer.
"Do you want to watch a movie?" The thought brought a smile to my face. "Sure," I try to ease the fright.
We end up watching Romeo & Juliet. I chose it because, why not? Alpha Hughes doesn't seem to mind. In fact, he seems quite pleased with my decision. When the movie ends, the room is dark again and I can hear the leaves. "Whoa," whispers Alpha Hughes. "What?" I ask curiously. "It's beautiful." There's a small smile on his face. That makes me smile. "How so? It's tragedy." I wonder. "I believe tragedy is beauty."
How ruined is Alpha Hughes that he thinks such a way? Tragedy isn't beauty; it's tragic. "That doesn't make sense." I try to piece it all together. But I could never understand a ruined man's logic. "Do you believe their love for each other was beautiful?" He questions. "Well, yeah." I answer. "Their love was tragic. So, tragedy is beautiful." I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. It all makes sense, then again, it doesn't.
I do not question him though. I just spend the rest of the night wondering about the man who proclaims tragedy is beauty.
In the morning, I do nothing. Lockdown is just like solitary confinement. I'm all alone. Alpha Hughes went to a meeting with Dean, Philip and Emily left for the Bahamas two hours prior to now. There isn't much to do so I write.
I have never been so scared in my life. I never feel safe. I caught the scent of the guards outside my door, they're scared as well. What's the use of a scared guard? Maybe if Alpha Hughes was the guard, I'd be less scared. Alpha Hughes is a tough man. You can see it in his eyes.
His brother is the opposite. Philip, I can tell, is a big wimp. A softy. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just weird. I haven't met the 'dead' brother Markus. But I've seen what he can do. By the looks of it, he's stronger than Alpha Hughes. This is a fight we just cannot win.
I place the pen down and review what I just wrote. I check for spelling errors, grammar mistakes, anything of the sorts. I find none. I smile triumphantly at my perfect writing skills. The door opens a bit. By reflex, I get into a stance. I'm ready to run. Then I hear a guard's voice. "Knock first, you dimwit!" I hear.
"What could she be doing besides nothing?" The other fights back. "Do you want me to answer that-" He's cut off by the other guard. "Ew, bro! Gross!"
They never knocked on the door. They never came in. Sure, I'd like the company (being in here all alone isn't fun), but they can do what they want.
Is that why Markus and Michael are doing this? Because they can? I mean, I know Alpha Hughes killed Michael's mate, but exact revenge isn't necessary. Markus, I don't understand why he would though. He doesn't even know me.
Lunch slowly comes around, I'm served with Macaroni and Cheese with a side of tomato soup. And toasted bread, of course. I thank the maid. "Excuse me?" I aim to get her attention. "Yes, Luna?" She turns to face me. "What is your name?" I ask. She seems taken aback by the question. "Luna, that isn't needed. I'm your maid." She attempts to leave. "Please!" I beg. She sighs and turns back. "It's Paula." I smile at her.
Once she leaves I'm all alone again. I listen closely to my surroundings. I hear footsteps outside, I assume it is just the new guards coming to report to duty. Then the door opens and an unfamiliar man walks in.
"Hello, love! Let's go for a ride." He walks over to me, I try to get up, I'm frozen. I fall to the ground with a 'thud' and I see boots walking in and a very infamous voice. I am scared for my life, now.
"Don't worry, Samantha, we'll take good care of you." Michael bends down to my level and puts a cloth in my mouth. I refuse to inhale. It doesn't work and I give into the lethal darkness.
