Chapter 83: Chapter 83
**Cassie’s POV**
Well, at least my days became more peaceful. I think slowly and surely I can admit and accept the fact that I am falling in love again. My only concern now is whether I should choose I like them both. I mean, it sounds so greedy to love them both, but I truly want them for myself alone.
It is not weird for me since sometimes werewolves have two fated pairs, but these two men in my life were not werewolves from the start. They might think it is weird that I want polyfidelity.
"Is it because it is cold, or your face is so frozen that I am getting a brain freeze just looking at you?" Dale teased me while he was raising his eyebrows. Funny.
"Shut up. Don’t I ask you to sign the pending documents at your office? The deadline will be an hour from now," I said to him. Is he really my boss? He is always slacking and just walking round and round. He gets on my nerves most of the time.
"Chill, after all, you will have a new boss starting next week," he said to me like he just dropped a bomb in front of me.
"What did you just say?" Maybe I just misheard him. It is so impossible that he will resign from his own company, right?
"I said what I said; you will have a new boss. I mean, I will still be the vice president of this company, but the rightful owner will handle all the affairs. At last! After all these years that I was a slave by this company," he muttered with fake tears, kneeling on the floor, being his usual overdramatic self.
"Then make me your secretary too. You will still have a position and office here at the company. I don’t like another boss," I rant. And now this fucker—I mean, this idiot—is smiling from ear to ear.
"Just admit that I am one of the best bosses you could ever have, and you can’t let me go that easily. Go on, admit it," he said with a provocative, teasing smile. I just want to wipe his smirk by kicking some vampire’s ball.
Oh, shut up. I just think, what if I have a worse boss than you? I will die so early if that happens," I said to him.
"No, because you know so well who will be your next boss. He is someone that is close to your heart, but for now, I will not give you any single clue and will let you starve without knowing your next boss." I almost caught him using my sharp claws, but he used that trick again to get away from my wrath. That cheeky vampire, as always.
But I would not deny the fact that I am a little sad to hear that he will not be my boss starting next week. Even though he is more of a stubborn, very playful, and very hard-to-handle type of boss, he is still one of a kind, unpredictable, and someone that I am used to having as a companion. How I wish that whoever will be my new boss will treat me better, or else I will be a little bit more violent.
BREAK time, and I am finally done with all of the remaining documents that Dale needs. He will not be my boss, so the rest will not be his to handle. I am outside the office and just went to the nearby shop to purchase some bread and pastries. This will be my lunch since I do not want to have a heavy meal.
"Angel!" I said while walking towards her. She looks so happy, so I will think that he saw my very best friend.
Hi, it looks like you will just take your lunch. I am on the way to see Damon; I think he did not eat his lunch," she said to me. That is quite true. Damon is a very hardworking type of man, so I bet he has not taken his lunch yet.
"He likes beef, like beef burgers, steak, and those types of foods," I suggested to her. "And also, he hates fish, so that is a no for him," I added.
"Thank goodness, and I ordered exactly his favorite; I almost ordered some fish and chips for him. Thanks for that tip; I will put that on my mind!" She said it with a gleeful tone.
"If that is so, I have something to ask if you are not in a hurry," I said to her.
"What is that?" she asked right away.
"You know Dale is a bit cheeky, and he is sometimes or most of the time getting on my nerves, but I heard from him that he will not be the CEO anymore, and that is a bit sad. Do not tell this to that shitty vamp—I mean jerk! You know that his head will go bigger again and boast this. But my real question, however, is, Do you know who will be our new boss?" I asked her. I am really nervous; I do not take changes quite lightly. Change is something that I hate most of the time.
She smiled, and with that, I felt a little bit more relaxed. "I know exactly who will be our new boss, and you can trust me if I say that he is kind and very soft-hearted. But to your dismay, I cannot disclose his name yet since he wishes not to until next week. But stop worrying that much, okay?" She then walks away while waving her hands. I am quite okay now, but still, a lot of questions are running through my mind.
All I ask is that at least he is kind and a little bit better than Dale, and I am good to go. I am looking forward to meeting him more now. So I wish he would never be someone who would give me another trauma. Note that I already forgive Derek, but that is another topic, I guess.
The truth is, I, Dax, am someone who will inherit a company from my deceased father. We are illegitimate children—my sister and I—so we have never been seen or had the chance to get close with our father. But my father never had a child from her legal wife, and her wife died for the same reason why my father died: a plane crash, an accident that made me the one and only heir of the company, but my pride did not want to accept the company that my father owned since he abandoned us.
I let my trusted friend, who is also my cousin, Dale, handle the company since he is also one of the biggest shareholders. That is what I thought.
But today, I changed my mind. Of course, I am happy to see that Derek can provide all the things that Cassie needs. He is rich—beyond rich, actually, since he owns a pretty big company.
While I am content in life with what I have, it is not until I realize that I should not be content. I should seek for more, not only for myself but also for the person that I love the most.
I do not wish nor desire to own that company, but since I think I feel the need to take over, I decided to be the owner.
"Dale, I am serious now; I want to be the CEO. I am not ready; I am not prepared, but I will do anything just to learn, so please," I said to him.
"Why are you pleading? Bro! This is your company; you own this!'' Dale said he was relieved to hear that I would take over the company starting next week. We are now on his pad, and I am a bit weirded out to see that his place is mostly painted black and the curtains are very thick. I never imagined him living like this.
Maybe that's why he is so pale. Is he allergic to sunlight or something like that? "But you know what it means, right?" Dale said, hanging his words, that made me a bit nervous, so that also made me gulp.
"I am aware. I will study hard and learn the processes of the business. I will never put the company you brought in at-risk or drag it down. I will never let you be disappointed," I promised him.
"Bro! What are you talking about? I will not let you do that. Of course, I will guide you, and you are also pretty smart. You just have little problems when it comes to you socializing, but we can fix it in some ways, but anyway, I am talking about if you will take over the company, it only means that you will have a very pretty secretary," he said to me, and I can feel that he is teasing me.
Just imagining that Cassie is actually going to be my secretary starting next week, and I am starting to have some dirty thoughts, made me feel so guilty now!
"Stop! I know that Cassie will be my secretary, but I will not take advantage of the situation. I respect her more than anyone else, okay?" I said, while I could feel my face starting to heat up.
"Okay, chill, my cousin; I know that you like her; after all, that is your instinct as a werewolf," he said to me, which surprised me. My heart is beating so fast just to learn that he actually knows that thing; it is supposedly a secret!
"How did you know that?" I asked in disbelief. I am so afraid and worried that this will be something that might threaten Cassie and those people that I love.
"Hey, bro, stop that! Hey, breathe! I did not mean to make you frightened, okay? I knew from the very start because I am not a human either. See? Smell me!" he exclaimed, and I just noticed that it is true; he gave off a very different smell, and that made me comfortable again.
"Thanks blood, you are breathing fine again. Don’t make me feel worried again like that, okay?" Dale said that maybe it surprised him to see me during my panic attack. It has been a while since I felt that uncomfortable feeling.
"Thanks, blood?" I asked him to talk about some weird things again.
"I am half vampire and half werewolf; in short, I am a hybrid. Please do not ask me more since I am just an orphan of your uncle. Of course, I don’t kill humans; I drink blood from donations and such. Cassie also knows this, and she trusted me. I am also here to protect her," he said to me, like he had slipped for a moment and did not really mean to share those words with me. But I suddenly felt angry, knowing that someone was actually trying to threaten Cassie.
"Hey, Dax, stop showing your aura, or someone might find that there is a werewolf and a hybrid here. We are still not sure, and we cannot also fight back against that enemy at this moment. It is an alpha with the backing of someone who has a darker and much more powerful power than us. They will not mindlessly attack since we are in Claybourne City, we are far from them, and we are surrounded by many people." I see, so that is the case. I should talk about this with Derekt; we have to do something about this. I think Cassie does not want us to know this. Knowing her, she does not want to feel like she is a burden.
"Please do not tell this to Cassie, or this day will be my official last day," he said, afraid. I know what she feels since Cassie is the type of person who looks powerful enough.
Okay, I will not lie. I am really a bit nervous right now, knowing that my recent boss, Dale, is out of town with his mate, while I, on the other hand, don't have any idea how to handle my anxiety and dilemma. I mean, this is something new to me, maybe because, even though it is hard for me to admit, I like Dale as a boss, no offense, more than my experience as an employee of Derek.
Well, Derekt has this character development, so don’t attack me with that; I am just simply spilling some truth now. By the way, I am all dressed up in my office uniform; I should look presentable, and at least I should give a good impression to my new boss. Angel and Dale assure me that my new boss is kind or something like that, but you can’t judge me for being like this.
I rode a cab, and when I reached the company building, I almost backed out. This is frustrating. Why should they hide who will be my boss? I already told them, and they should know that I really hate surprises.
As I went inside the elevator, I was silently praying to the goddess that my boss was somewhat to my liking. I hope he is a boss who is more friendly and serious about work, not perverted or anything like that, because that will test my patience.
When I reached the top floor, and I am now in front of the boss's office, I was really anxious, but I just had to face the fear. I have already faced so many struggles in life; this should be a little bit easier.
But to my surprise, I just found Dax sitting on the CEO’s swivel chair. He is looking dazzling and charming in his suit, and I admit that I blushed as I realized that I had not been staring at him for too long.
"Dax, what are you doing here? And I want to say that you have a very lovely suit," I said, complimenting how gorgeous he is.
He is now scratching the back of his head, looking at me like he is ashamed of something that I do not know. "The truth is, I am the new CEO," he finally said.
"Ah, okay, so you are now my boss. Wait, what?! Did you just say that you are now my boss?" I was surprised, because it is really surprising! But how about his job? I mean, my son has stopped schooling since he went through the process of fast adulting, and he can’t go to school anymore.
"Well, it is a long story, but we can talk about it since we have plenty of time," he said, and I agree with that.
"Okay, I will listen no matter how long your story is, but I will just make some juice, okay?" Because coffee is not good for the health of any werewolves.
I went to the pantry and prepared some snacks because I felt that we had a very serious conversation going ahead and that we needed some food for that. Now, I came back, and he started to summarize everything.
Still, I cannot process the fact that he will be my boss starting today. His story is like those novels that I read back then, and I will surely need to take time to digest every word that he said.
"I will look forward to you taking care of me," he said, a little bit shy.
I smiled. "Of course, I will never let you down since you have the best secretary you could ever wish for. But will you be okay with this? I mean, you will need to see more people, and you need to socialize," I reminded him. Of course, I want him to grow and slowly walk forward away from his bad experiences that leave nothing but nightmares and such in his mind. I hope I can help more. But I am also worried.
"I need to; you taught me how to be brave again, and I am so thankful for that. All I need to do is ask you to accompany me until I can be more independent in this business industry," he asked me.
"Rest assured, because you are not just my boss; you are family to me, Art," I said to him. "By the way, why is Dale out of town? That sneaky bastard knows that there will be a business meeting with some of those higher-ups today; now you have to see them. Do you wish to cancel the meeting? It will be the best for you," I said, a little bit worried again. "I am not trying to scare you or anything, but some of those higher-ups have this shitty personality that I do not want to describe. They are pure evil," I said to him.
"What, are they bullying you?" Art asked me with a serious tone and aura. I suddenly felt a sense of control over him, and that is something that only Alpha Blood can do! That surprised me a lot!
"Dax, calm down, okay? They did not harm me or anything; they can’t because they are nothing but twigs of a human, but sometimes they are mean, that’s all," I said to him, because I do not want him to be surprised, and sorry for the words, look stupid, as I know the nature of those shareholders; they are such a manipulating and very devilish type of human.
"Okay, but I do not wish for the meeting to be postponed, as I will still meet them," he decided, and if that is his wish, who am I to argue? I just hope that those bastards will be in their right mood and mind; if they do or say something about Dax, that will be their last.
The meeting is now starting, and I am preparing the slides that Angel handed me, as Dax will present some information.
"I am Dax Wood, and from this day on I will handle the company that my late father once gave to me. I will be in your care from today onward," he said, and I am quite impressed by the way he talks, like he is legit attractive.
The twelve higher up started to murmur. They are like bees and insects that I want to crush. I also have a sensitive sense of hearing; they do not even intend to hide their hateful words towards Art, and if I could just harm them, They are so shy!
"You are that son of the late Mr. CEO, who chose to be a military officer, got into an unfortunate accident, and had trauma, right? So how is a boy with an incapable mind who looks like a newborn chick going to handle the company? I think Mr. Dale is a bit out of his mind too for insisting on giving his position to someone like you," Mr. White said of this bald businessman who is full of malice in his intentions and words. I want to erase his whole existence right now. He is getting on my nerves!
I thought that Dax would start trembling and be depressed, but I am so shocked to see his eyes, like they are full of authority, and I once remember Kaiden having this dominating aura also.
"Mr. White, just so you see how I will do my best for this company, do not judge me yet, or I might judge you in advance also," Art muttered in his deadly words, ``that I myself am trembling.
They all fell into it, and that means that Dax succeeded in leaving such an impression on this group of old hags with toxic personalities. I am so happy that he is so successful and natural. I can see his similarities to Derek’s business capabilities.
Now that we are back in his office, we both slump on the sofa, both tired of dealing with such a kind of human. They are just weak and nothing too special, but they also behave like reckless dogs trying to wreak havoc.
"Is that okay?" he asked me with those puppy eyes. Ack! He is so handsome and cute; help me, please.
"You actually did better! That is so natural. I bet those old hags are planning to get their revenge. They are actually too easy to read, but do not worry, for I am on your side, okay?" I reassured him. And I was quite moved as he suddenly hugged me so tight.
"Thank you, Cassie. You are my reason for this," he said to me. I am glad that he is getting better and better.
"So, you are the real owner of that company, huh? That Dale bastard all along was just your proxy, so why did you have a sudden change of heart?" Derek asked me, as we are now in our usual café. We are talking about such matters.
I can feel my face heating up, thinking that my number one reason for grabbing that position is to spend more time with Cassie, but I decided to tell Derek the truth. Ever since we agreed that we would share our feelings with Cassie equally, we have not been able to hide anything.
"Well, to spend more time with Cassie, and also to have money and power to spoil Cassie and Charlie like you do," I said in one breath. Derek actually spilled his coffee out of his mouth.
"You smart ass bastard! We agreed that we would be fair and square with Cassie, but here you are taking Cassie all by yourself," he said, looking like he was in a bad mood.
"It is not my intention to make you feel that. I will honor what we talk about, so you do not have to worry about that. Let us think of a solution so that we can make this setting more fair," I said to him, so that he would feel okay with this.
"Thank goodness, and you are considerate; okay, why do not we convince Cassie that she will have her schedule? Like she will be on me for a week, then she will be on yours for another week. I think that is better because we have our main secretary, she will just accompany us," he suggested, and I think I like it also.
"But I hope Cassie will not see this thing as bad, and I agree with that," I said to him before sipping my tea. "And also, Cassie said we can’t drink much coffee; it is bad for our health.
"Oh, okay, but is this all that you will say? I thought there was more since you said that there is something serious now," Derek muttered. I nodded and finally said my agenda.
"Do you know that Dale, my distant relative, is actually a vampire?" I asked him. He nodded and told me how he found out.
"Okay, Dale actually said something about an enemy; there is someone that threatens the lives of Cassie and Charlie, something that we can’t mindlessly fight without a plan," I said to him, and just like my first impression, he was filled with bloodlust, saying that all of the people inside of this café look uncomfortable.
"Derek, men, calm down; don’t go out of control; if Cassie knows this, she will not be happy." I convinced him to calm down and breathe as much as he could. At least he is now calmer.
"Who is that bastard that threatens Cassie and Charlie? Does he have a death wish? We should move first and kill that person," he suggested with full determination. I wish it was as easy as that, but Dale warned me that the enemy is not an easy one.
"I also want that enemy to suffer, as no one should make our Cassie that anxious, but we should also be careful. We are not humans, but we are still not used to using our abilities. We need someone to train us," I said to him. He nodded, so he knew what I meant all along.
"We need to ask her dad," he said. Now we just have our plan. Dale said something about the secret society, a dimension below Claybourne City where other creatures than us are living in a symbiotic way.
We did not waste any time, and we went to Cassie’s dad's house. We saw Mr. Anderson taking care of Charlie.
"What are you doing here? Cassie is not here; she went grocery shopping with Damon and Angel along with her brothers,'' Mr. Anderson said to us.
"We are not actually here for Cassie; we are here to ask a favor of you, Mr. Anderson," Derek said, being a little nervous. I am too, because we can feel that Cassie's dad is so strong.
"Me? A favor, you will ask? What will an old man like me do about the both of you?" he said while his hand was on his chin.
"We heard that Cassie's life is in danger, and there are threats. We are no longer mere humans; we have the capabilities of werewolves, so please, Mr. Anderson, teach us how to fight; we want to protect Cassie and Charlie," I asked him humbly. I am wishing and hoping that he will really teach us.
"Are you really determined to learn how to fight? Both of you have major weaknesses. Someone who has no experience in battle and someone who has experience in battle but has trauma This is not a game; it can harm you," he warned us.
"We will take this seriously, Mr. Anderson," I said with conviction.
