Chapter 62: Chapter 62
**Cassie’s POV**
We had fun while we stayed in Japan; we also roamed and visited Tokyo, and everything felt refreshing and surreal.
I love the food, the culture, and the people. Staying there is paradise.
What only bothers me is the old Japanese lady in her black kimono and her premonitions. I felt a little bit optimistic about her words, and the only thing that I did catch in her phrases was that someone would be back in my life.
The only one that I lost was my mate. And no matter how much I hope about it, there is no way he can be back. I saw how they buried my husband six feet underground.
Maybe it happened in the past. A few months to be exact, but it does not change the fact that it is still fresh in my memories, as it happened yesterday.
But back to reality: we already landed at the airport, and we are back again in Claybourne City. Derek insisted that he would drive us home because he promised my dad and my brothers that he would bring me and my son home safely. And he cherished my family's trust in him.
We are now in front of the apartment building. He wants to stay; my boss tried to insist, but I suggest that he needs to have a good rest.
"Can't I stay?" He tried to make me give up with those puppy eyes, but I am tolerant of them. It will never affect me. Never.
"No, you cannot. I appreciate that you sent us home; I am thankful for that, but you have to get some rest. My space is not good enough for you. You have your own space, with a queen-size bed, comfortable ventilation, and everything. You don't have to feel uncomfortable just to stay here."
He sighed. "But I think I can get better if I sleep in your room. I don't snore that loud, right?" He is indeed a hard-headed type of guy, but that does not mean that I cannot defy him.
"Derek, listen, we will see each other tomorrow morning, and it is not as if I will go somewhere. We have a business trip and a vacation for a few days, and I guess it is enough to spend time on other things. Me and my family; you and your colleagues."
He sighed. "I guess I have no choice at all."
"Of course, you have no choice."
"Why so cruel?" he whimpered.
"Stop acting like a brat." He reminds me whenever Kaiden acts like a bratty kid from time to time.
"Fine, I will see you tomorrow, and I will drive you and Charlie to the school." He finally drove home, and I went inside my apartment.
It is very tiring, but I am happy. I can still smile and continue. I should never think about giving up because I still have reasons to be happy. My dad is right when he says that I should stay strong for my son because he needs me. And I promise Kaiden that I will take care of our son.
Acceptance? It is not an easy word. I felt dragged to hell multiple times because of the pain of losing him. But time can heal, and what helps me the most is my support system, my family, the new people that I met, and the new environment we are living in.
We went inside and took a good rest.
The next morning, the class was suspended because of a storm. The wind and rain outside seem too violent, and it is not manageable to go outside.
I asked my boss too if I could have a leave for this day. I cannot leave my son in this kind of weather. I am overprotective, I know, but you cannot point your finger since Charlie is the only person who holds my sanity straight.
"Mr. Ross, I think I can't work this day."
"I agree; just stay at home and be safe. I will also drop something on your apartment," he said.
"Oh no, don't bother, sir!" I can manage. I think I stored food in the fridge; we will be fine."
"I insist." He dropped the phone call, and I know I have no other choice.
"Mom?" Charlie asked. "Are we going out?" He is talking about schooling.
"No, of course not." "It is raining cats and dogs outside."
I decided to make soup for breakfast. This is my mother's recipe, taught by my dad. It is a mushroom soup with a creamy base. It tastes lovely, and my son loves it too.
While we were in the middle of eating our breakfast, someone knocked on the door, and I immediately opened it. What greeted me is my boss, super wet from the rain, and he is holding plastic bags.
"Can I get in?" he asked me while getting chilled.
"Get inside and have a shower! You will catch a cold if you stay like this."
I pushed him inside the bathroom and gave him my spare clothes and towel. What is running through his mind, and he decides to run on my apartment that wet? Is an umbrella hard to find this day?
"That's refreshing," he said after getting out of the bathroom. I glared at him and gave him a good punch on the shoulder.
"You are not thinking again! You seriously go outside and bother yourself, and you can't come here wet all of a sudden? Great."
"I just want to help."
"Think of yourself first, Derek. What if you catch the flu? Remember? You are not fully recovered."
"I am; I feel good and fine. There is nothing to get worried about at all, Cassie."
There is no way I will continue to argue with this man. He will just keep insisting on things.
"Come here, I made a soup; you have to warm up your body. Geez, you are not a kid anymore. Don't do that again. Catching a sickness is not a joke."
