Chapter 59: Chapter 59

**Cassie’s Pov**

When my boss told me that he would pull his connection to give a free vacation to my son, he was not joking at all. The principal called me last night, and she said that my son can have his vacation.

And of course, just for formality, I sent a message to Angel and asked for her brother's phone number. I have to personally tell him about my business trip with my boss, and why do I have to excuse my son?

"Hello, Mr. Dax?" I said over the phone.

"Good day, Mrs. Clark," he said back. Oh, she knows my number?

"About my son's excuse slip, I just want to explain the situation. You see, I am the secretary of my boss, and there is a business we have to attend in Japan. I am not comfortable getting away from my son that far or for that long. So I need to take him with me for a couple of days," I explained throughout the conversation, and I hope it is just my imagination that I can hear him sighing so deeply.

"I understand, Mrs. Clark," he said. Why is this guy so formal, by the way?

His voice is so low that it is almost baritone-bass. It makes me shiver, to be honest, like it sounds weirdly sexy. But when I am talking at him face-to-face a couple of times, he is more like a shy type of guy.

I remember Angel saying to me that her brother had a traumatic experience way back when he was in military service, and that is why he developed an inferiority complex too.

"Just call me Cassie, please."

"Okay, Cassie," he said, and his tone suddenly shifted into an uplifting voice.

We ended up talking for a couple of minutes before I saw that it was already late at night. I have to say goodbye, and for some reason, I felt like we had known each other for too long.

He is stuttering at times when I am talking to Art; sometimes he is sighing too often, but I cannot do anything but sympathize. You know that he is such a kind-hearted guy, and I appreciate the way he cared for my son, although it has not been that long since I met him.

I walk up pretty much late, and I am glad that I remember that this day is my day off, so I can finally have a good rest for this day before the business trip for tomorrow.

Weirdly, my family is just fine with the fact that I will be with my boss for a couple of days with my son. My brothers and my dad said that they trust Derek now. Sometimes I cannot understand boys that well. They are overprotective at times, but gaining trust from them is not that hard. Do they have existing criteria or rubrics?

So because I have plenty of time, I decided to do general cleaning. It was not that hard since Tom helped me too when he got here for a couple of minutes.

After cleaning and asking my son if he was alright, I went straight to the bathroom and took a shower.

Then, after freshening up and dressing in more comfortable clothes, I decided to go out of my room, and just at that moment, someone knocked on the door. I peek through the hole, and it is not a surprise that the man behind the door is none other than my boss.

I opened the door and gave him a straight face.

"Last time I remember, this day was supposed to be my day off."

He acted like he was putting his hand on his chest, acting in pain or hurt by my words.

"Am I not allowed here anymore?" he mumbled with that overdramatic gesture.

"You are more often visiting here than going to the bathroom. It is not illegal to visit sometimes, but you have a life, Derek."

"Well, at least I like the way you are calling me by my name."

I mentally slapped my head. My boss is the most persistent guy I've ever had. He is not just a simple, hard-headed guy; he is more than that. Sometimes he is too much to handle, but I am not annoyed by his gestures; weirdly, I think they are more charming.

He walks inside my apartment as if he is the one paying the rent. I cannot get over the fact that he is so at home.

He went to the coach and talked to my son. It looks like they will play again as wolves and puppies. I do not know how Derek learns the traditional bonding game between a father and his pup.

Because no matter how many times I checked him, there are still no signs of him being a werewolf. He smells 100 percent human.

Because he is a free babysitter for today, I decided to go to the kitchen and cook something delicious for our lunch.

When the turkey is perfectly roasted, we can finally eat our lunch.

"Food is ready!"

My son and my boss act like children running toward the kitchen. They sat on the chair and waited for me, who was cutting the turkey meat into smaller pieces.

"It smells delicious," Derek commented. He is looking at the food as if it is his first time trying to eat again.

"It tastes delicious, Mom!" "Thanks for the food."

"Eat well."

While we are all eating, we also have conversations and discussions about the business trip for tomorrow. My son is excited too, since it will be both of us going to Asia for the first time. I heard Japan is a lovely country rich in tradition, culture, and spots all over the place.

After that lovely lunch, Charlie and Derek decided to take a nap. I cackled because they look like father and son bonding. I know that Kaiden is irreplaceable in our hearts.

But I insist that Derek is a great help in lessening the sadness in my son's heart. I am beyond thankful for your taking care of my son.

But I also don't like the idea of them being too attached.

I fear that someday my boss will learn about our real identities. It will be hard for me and, most of all, for my son to be hated by my boss.

He cannot know that we are werewolves. Humans are afraid of things they cannot fully grasp and understand.

"I have to go... Although I want to spend the rest of the night here, I still need to contact the person I send first to Japan so that our trip will be as smooth as possible."

"That's good news."

"About the trip?"

"Nope, about you not getting to sleep here." "That is a good decision."

"How cruel!"
