Chapter 58: Chapter 58

**Cassie’s Pov**

"I heard a drama, and I never thought that it would happen again because of a different reason," Angel said to me as we were working collaboratively on our pending works.

"Ha?" I asked, being snapped out of my deep thoughts. I am so confused right now—why should my boss be angry that much?

"You know, it is rare but not a surprise for every employee in this company that Mr. Derek can be a beast when getting mad at someone or something. He is paying us more than any company here in Claybourne City, and he is a perfectionist, so he wants every job done perfectly.

"I saw him getting mad because of the employee's mistake and failure. But I never saw or heard him get angry because of a woman. Please don't get me wrong, Cassie. I love you; you know that as a friend. But everyone inside this company has a pair of ears; they can hear rumors circulating at the speed of light, and that is damaging, especially on your part." I am more than speechless.

I can't say anything because, deep inside of me, I know that I am guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

"I know; I tried to distance myself. But how can I when every time I see him, I cannot avoid him? It is inevitable to be with him every single time."

"Reject him." As I heard her words, my heart sank like a stone tossed on a river.

Just the way I imagine myself rejecting him does not sit well with me. I can't do that.

"Angel, I know how to limit him, and I can limit myself too. I can guard my feelings and emotions. There is no single man who can replace my husband inside of this." Pointing my chest. "He is everything to me. And my love for my deceased husband is not shallow."

I nodded. "I am just concerned and worried. I don't want you to be affected by those rumors and backstabbing that are happening right now."

"I can handle them. Words don't hurt me that much. There is nothing that can hurt me more than the pain I felt when I lost my mate," I said to her.

"Mate?" Oh, I told him a very strange word for her.

"I mean husband."

We decided to do our task faster now. It is not that hard since I am not used to paperwork. I can manage to finish this task in a double-time period.

When all of my tasks are done, I decided to take a coffee break now. I am not drinking coffee because it is bad for me. When I was on my way inside the cafeteria, I saw my boss walking towards me.

"Cassie, go to my office now."

That is weird and suspicious. So I decided not to make a cup of coffee and just go follow him until we got inside the elevator. It is empty because this elevator is limited to exclusive people. Now I can smell my boss, and it smells good. As if I remember the first time Kaiden's smell hit my nostrils. Like the scent and fragrance send me to heaven for a second.

"Do you like my perfume?" "I can give you a couple of pieces," he said with a grin on his lips.

I managed to dodge his gaze and turn my back. I am aware that I am blushing so madly right now.

"No, thank you. I just appreciate your perfume," I reasoned.

The elevator's opened, and we walk straight inside his office. He said that I could sit on the swivel chair in front of his table.

He gave me a couple of papers, and those are presented for the next big project that will happen in the next couple of months.

"This is top-notch and classified information, sir." Why are you giving me these papers that easily?" I asked him, irritated. He should be careful! What if I am not someone who can be trusted?

"I believe that there is no merit for you if you will exploit the content of the plan, and I trust you that much," he said. Explaining with those beautiful eyes.

Okay, I get that he is handsome! Can he stop gazing at me? It is not uncomfortable, but instead, it is weirder for me. Like there is an army of butterflies in my stomach.

"Fine, but you should still be careful," I reminded him.

"I will, but geez, don't be to nagger." "Cassie, I need your help, and that help is for you to assist me on my business trip," he finally said.

"Sir? My son needs me the most. I cannot leave him."

"Who said that you have to leave Charlie? We can also take him on vacation," he said. "And it is not that long before we will be out. It is just a couple of days in Japan."

I shook my head. Still not accepting the task. "My son is studying," I said to him.

"I know the school owner, and I can pull a string for Charlie. It is not hard." For him, because he is rich and beyond capable of doing that.

"Do I have to be with you on that business trip? How about Angel? She is surely available at that time," I suggest.

"Angel will be in Texas for a busy task. She can probably not help me. And she is the only person that I can trust to do the task perfectly." Why do I feel like he is manipulating everything?

"Okay, but this will be the first and last. I explained that my son needs me, and about those business trips, it is impossible for me to be with you every single time with those trips on your plan."

He smiled in victory, while my head was spinning in defeat. "This is illegal," I complained.

"It will be perfectly fine," he replied.
