Chapter 38: Chapter 38

Early the next day, before the sun could fully reveal it's shine, the emissaries were back. "The emissaries are here!" Edmonton rushes into the hut where I'm resting and we all rush to meet them out.

"The King is ready to receive you in his palace today for negotiations and now. As for the princess, you don't need to fuse, you all will see her before any negotiations start."

"Good, I think we have to leave now." I gets agitated at the mention of, princess. "No son, we have to proceed with an exchange of hostages first." dad instructs, halting me from going further.

"Unfortunately, the King will not send any hostage this time." one of the emissaries replies in fear.

"Good! My son goes nowhere if we don't have a sure hostage. Who knows, - this might be a trick..." Dad sarcastically retorts. "And to think of it, I'm happy your foolish king is ready to fight!. Yes, I came here to win." he smiles maliciously.

"Dad, I'm ready to take the risk," I whisper in his ears.

"This is an insult, can't you see it. No one will leave if we don't have a hostage. I hope I have made myself clear. Now you all should leave before I change my mind." the king yells and the emissaries tremble.

"The King said that he can't trust you anymore, because each time you two come to an agreement, you greedily always have another of your evil plans being cooked up behind his back. And you always betrayed him without any mercy. He also says that you are a scrupulous man with no dignity, so he rather dies than to trust you with the life of any of his children." One of the emissary replies as he holds on to his horse tightly to transfer his tension.

He ought to be tense, because it isn't something new that, most emissaries are always killed after delivering an unsatisfying message. And glimpsing at King Demons's expressions, it's clear that he's eager to kill them.

"You stand there all confident talking to me in such a stream of words, well can you repeat this nonsense? If at all you have the balls!" in a flash, Dad leaves my side, gets hold of the messenger speaking, pulling up his horse, so tightly that he's almost strangling him to death.

I move to him "Dad, the king is right. I would have done the same if I were him. More to this, I'm sure my mum won't have trusted a vicious man. So I think king Williamson might be a good man." I whisper in his ears "And, please, dad,- drop this man, he's just a messenger..."

He takes a deep breath and he carelessly drops the man, who heavily falls on the ground like a log of wood.

I turn back to our warriors who a curiously staring at us from a  distance "With a few men, I'm going to honour the king's invitation in the palace." I gaily announce.

Dad fixes his gaze at me, and he bypasses me, moving into the hut. I'm sad that he's in this emotional mood, but what else can I do?.

"Edmonton, are you following me?" "Of course my prince." he notes. "Good!" I give him a quick tap on the shoulders then I move to the hut to see dad.

"My prince I'm coming with you." this guy stops me on the way. "Good, get a few other men and get ready. We are leaving soon." I move into the but. I take a seat near dad.

I find him, grinding his teeth with veins carved all over his face "I will kill that stupid man" he murmurs repeatedly that it sounds like an obsession.

"You think you are smarter... with that man humiliating us before everyone and you stand there like a commoner. What pains me most is that, you let it go like a foolish fool... Words can't even describe your actions." Dad utters in disdain.

"Dad, I didn't come here for your insults. I'm simply here to tell you that, you must not come. I will go with Edmonton and a few men, I think we're enough." I frown.

"Of course, I won't come. Simply because I don't take insults with my two hands," he exclaims.

"Good for you!" I walk out of the hut to find the men waiting for me on their horse. Immediately mount my horse, taking charge as I lead the way as ever good leader does.

"Hey, you all stop right now!" the king yells as he walks out of the hut angrily as he sees us jogging away. We immediately stop at the sound of his unexpected voice. "What, again dad?" I frown as I turn to him. "I'm coming with you guys." he mounts a horse and I smile.

We rapidly jog. The gate opens as we reach the palace. We unmount our horses when this man approached us with some guards. "I'm Tommy the king's man." he takes us directly to the king.

We enter the throne room and the king is not. Dad stares at his throne with envy as we take seats on the wooden benches.

The King later joins us.

"I'm happy you all made it." the king takes the head seat on the table on which we are seated. "Even you Demons, I'm happy to see you again."

"Whatever! Can we proceed, I have no time to waste." Dad scowls. "It's not like you have another important mission in this kingdom." King William sarcastically retorts. "Bring the Princess." then he orders Tommy.

Eve, later enters the room with a little young lady of her age by her side. The lady is beautiful, yet my eyes are seized by Eve's beauty. Edmonton and I stand up immediately as she enters the room.

"I'm happy to see you. Now, I feel safer." she rushes into my arms. I wasn't expecting, yet her action melts my heart. Her head buried into my chest, all I could do was give her all the comfort as I held her and gave her a warm squeeze, her eyes striking me like lighting as she looks up to me with tears in her eyes, at that point, I could kill for her, in that moment, she was my oxygen.

Kidron enters the room just when Eve rushed into Adams's arms. He battles so hard with himself not to show any covetousness. He simply bypasses them and he moves to his seat, still, his eyes and that of Eve meets and she feels uncomfortable. She unveils her arms from Adam.

And she calls "Edmonton" she turns to him and hugs him "My little Princess. I'm so sorry about all this." he gives her a perk on her forehead. "It's fine. It's not your fault." she paths off him.

She turns to "King Demons!" she simply exclaims with a cold stare. "I'm happy to see you as well." she sarcastically murmurs as she strolls back to Adams.

"Enough of all this outflow sentiments and blabbing!. Let's talk about business." King Demons scopes.

"Take them away." king waves at his guard who immediately take Eve and Elgin away. Eve is taken to a room secured with guards at the door. Elgin insisted to enter the secured room with Eve and it's granted.

The King ask for Food which is immediately serve on the table, with very good wine.

"I hope this wine isn't poisoned, or maybe my cup is already painted with it." Dad worries aloud. The King simply nods his head in dismay.

Then he calls on a maid to serve him from the main jar of wine which was served on the table. He drinks from his cup and take it to king Demons, by himself. "Take my cup if you aren't satisfied." he takes another sip and he hands the cup to Dad.

Then he takes Dad's cup to his seat and pours some wine inside and drinks immediately. "As you can see, Demons, not everyone is untruthful and deceitful like you. Unlike you, some men still stand on their words."

"I'm not still safe!." king Demons murmurs. "Dad... Like seriously?" I murmur to him. He gives me a cold stare.

"We can all eat, drink to our satisfaction. We can't argue with empty stomach. There is an African proverb that says; a hungry man is an angry man. I think same goes for animals like us... Hahaha..." the king grins.

"Williamson, I didn't come all the way to eat your tasteless food and drink your cheap wine. I came along with all this from my country. You know why I'm here. So go straight to the point and spare me all the trash!. Are we fighting or not?" Dad is an impatient man.

"You haven't change Demons, even after all these centuries. Anyway, I agree with you this time." he grins. "So after deliberating for almost half a century, I came to this conclusion. I'm tired of fighting, shedding blood and killing. So to cut this short, I want to confront you in a dual."

"This is a very good decision. Unfortunately, I will turn it down for some serious reason and I propose that our sons should go on a solo combat to dead... What do you think of this?" he grins maliciously.

"Dad it's fine, I can do it." Kidron murmurs to his Dad before he can reject it. Still, Williams hesitates. While I'm still skeptical about this...

"Are you doubting your son's capacity?" Dad mocks. "Not that!. I don't want any innocent to get involved in this fight again... Why do I want my time explaining this to you?! You can't even understand this... Anyway if you both are okay with this then we will do it." the king rules.

"Hahaha... Now we can eat and drink. This is worth a celebration. I came here to fight over a throne but it's been offered to me on a silver plate. Hahaha..." Dad confidently mocks and it's seriously irritating.

"Dad... This isn't proper" I murmur to him. "Don't bother son, this kingdom is ours already." He pours out wine and drinks it eagerly.

"Excuse me!" King Williams walks out of the the table in discomfort. Kidron follows him "Dad, why don't you trust me?" Kidron yells in the corridor. His dad stops at the sound of his voice "It's not about you." he exclaims and gets into his room.

Kidron walks back to the room where we are, angrily.

This guy really wants a fight, which I'm against, his eyes portray a certain degree of hatred for me, I can see it. I sip my wine without minding him anyway.

"Why are you hesitant, are you scared I will go beyond your expectations?" Kidron says confidently. I was surprised as he finished his last words. "Really? Why are you so eager to fight me?, I have done nothing to you."

My dramatic father taps me on the shoulder "I applaud you for your bravery, you remind me of someone." as he smiles. "Let's go son, you have a combat to participate in." we immediately move out of the room to the rising sun. We mount our horses and jog back to our camp.
