Chapter 31: Chapter 31

"Take your filthy hands off me, Demons." Maryline flinches away from his kiss. "You still have no respect for your king!" he flings her in bed, hastily. Then taking off his dress to mount her like a mad horse.

The cruel smile on his face can speak for itself. His desire to Infiltrate her is at the peak, that nothing or no one can stop him. She tries to run put he pushes her back into bed.

"It's time to leave, Dad." Adams barges into the room and finds his dad mounting Maryline. The guards stopped Adams at the door but he persisted, especially after he realized that Maryline was the one on the bed and kicking her legs.

"Why the hell will you barge into my room without knocking or make an announcement. I thought I told you guards at the door to ensure no one disturbs my peace." He was paranoid, as he saw his son's face and quickly released Maryline from his grasp, picking up his top and hastily putting it on, with a disappointed look, he sighs.

While Maryline instantly gets up from the bed, fixing her dresses to leave.

"I'm not done with you yet." the king whispers in her ear as she bypass him. "Thank you," she whispers in Adams's ears before finally leaving. Adams doesn't mind as he acts unaffected. But is he really?...

"You know we have no time to waste here, yet you have time to waste raping women." Adams speaks with disgust.

"Don't you dare judge me, don't think that you are better than me. More to that, she is a slave and not a free woman so I can do whatever I want with her and that's isn't rape. So control your tongue young man." he frowns.

"We all know she's more than that!. Anyway, you know what? Let's forget about her. Just get ready we have to leave now if we want to be thereby tomorrow evening."

"I will be there shortly. Now leave my room." the king waves him out, he's still very disappointed. Adams leaves immediately.

It's clear that Adams doesn't always approve of his father's choices but what else can he do?. His father is the king, and has the authority to do more than what he, Adams can. So he has to play along so as to be on his good side, till he gets the power. As well as his father always make sure to hold the keys to his destiny...

After spending many days in the palace, Adams finally decides to visit Eve's room. He strolls around her bedside, then he takes a seat on the wooden slap by her bed. "I hope we will meet soon." flashback of Eve's naive face pops into his mind.

Looking at stuff on her table slap, he falls on the newspapers talking about the human world, most of them talking about him and a brief smile takes over his serious countenance.

"How on earth did she get this?" Adams wonders aloud.

"She steals them from my room, I discovered it long ago but I let her do it because, by then it was her only source of distraction." Maryline barges into the room as she overhears Adams pondering aloud.

"I have been searching for you." She moves in with a tray filled with breakfast; baked bread, cheese, smoked fish "I made this fruit juice, special for you, just as you love it." she places the tray on the slap in front of him.

"That was in the past, and my taste has changed. Now I don't love it anymore." he quickly glares at the tray and direct's his gaze to the window. This air of hostility, bitterness. She can feel it any time she's around him and this hurts her deeply but there is nothing she can do.

"Adam this young girl has suffered enough, please don't make her suffer more. Please make sure you do whatever it takes to bring her back alive. She doesn't deserve all this, she has nothing to do in this feud that has grown over the years. OMG, I can't even imagine what..."

"Maryline, enough of all this. Spare me from all this emotional blackmail and leave me in peace. I will always do what I have to do, I don't need you to remind me of what I have to do or not. Remember, you gave up this right when you decided to abandon me." he cut off her speech.

"Adam, you know how things were hard for me, I didn't decide to leave... I guess you will never understand this." she mumbles.

"Sure, but I have gotten over all this. You leave or I do?" he points at the door. She lowers her head in disgrace "It's fine, I'm leaving. One last thing, always take care of, Eve. Now, you are all she has." with this said she leaves immediately.

Adams breaths in relief. Still, he can't run away from his memories as they come rushing back to his mind like a storm and everything seems like it was yesterday.

While on her on side, Maryline hurries to the kitchen in pain, battling with herself not to burst into tears. Her memories aren't the best either. Everyone had their own dose of the grief.

"Madam, we have served breakfast what next." A maid barges into the kitchen. "Nothing just make sure they have all they need, check all the horses." she wiped the few drops of tears on her cheeks which had escaped her eyes then she turns to the maid. With this said she moves away and the maid as well.

After a few moments of thought, Adam picks the fruit juice from the tray. He gently sips and It's as good as he loves it, yet he's so frantic that he can't admit it to himself. He finishes the cup of juice as it could be his last.

Going to war isn't something easy or obvious, you never know if you will be on the winning or losing side. LIke no one knows what can happen next. Anyone, can die at any point on a battlefield, even the strongest of all...

The King eats with his men while Adam was still in Eve's room.

Later on, they mount their horses. Instructions her given, then they all hit the road on their various horses. Some men are on horses while majority are trekking.

"Hey, hey... hey!. Are you getting me?" this strange voice hits me when I was deep in my subconscious, almost giving up my last breath.

Since I came to this cell, I had not drank nor eaten anything. Today not like other days, I was so weak and afraid to die, that I planned on doing the worst of things just to have what to drink, even if given water from the drains, I will drink. Unfortunately, I wasn't served anything as I opened my eyes. What I was served the previous days were either rotten or eaten by rats.

My body isn't responding normally and my vision has started getting blurred. So I barely had the power to turn when I heard this sweet lovely voice.

However, the more she insists it's like the more I get a little energy. It's like she's charging me.

"Who are you?" I turn, crimping on the cold nasty ground to meet her at the iron bars of my cell. No way for me to get up and move to her.

"I'm a princess like you. I'm princess Elgin, daughter to the king." she sounds friendly however, I don't notice it.

"Oh, the ludicrous king who kept me behind these bars?." I say.

"My father is everything but not absurd as you say. He's a wise and kind man. If you are behind these bars, then theremust certainly be a valid reason." she defends.

"Yes, that's right. Perhaps destiny wants you and me to meet. Perhaps we have great things to achieve together, I can feel something different now." the young girl smiles at my words. This makes me grin sarcastically.

"Don't be silly, girl, there is no valid reason behind all this, keeping me all locked up without food to sustain me. Your stupid father simply involved me in a fight which he considers as collateral security. A fight which started long ago, before I was even born which has nothing to do with my direct or indirect ancestors." I yell with the little power I have.

"Oh moon god, where did I go wrong?." I end up lamenting.

"I can understand your pains," she says in a low tone. "Have you ever been in a cage for close to a week, no food, no water, no light? and the only company you have are rats and disgusting smells." I frown.

"Kind of, or perhaps worse. All my life I have been on the journey of life and death... Sometimes I find myself so close to the path of death that, when I least expect it, life calls me back. This has been all my life. I just woke up a few days ago, so trust me, I do understand you." she throws me an apple.

Her words scared me. I couldn't help but seize the apple from the ground. Just a few bites and the apple was almost gone "So what are you?. A living corpse?" words honestly escape my mouth.

"I can't tell. All I can say is that I'm alive and in contrary to, yes, I believe in Destiny. Perhaps our encounter isn't in vain."

"My princess is time for you to leave." A guard approaches her without giving her the to conclude her visit, taking her unaware. He pulls her along with him.

"Don't bother, I will visit you every day with a little something." she says as she fades into the dark. The only thing I can remember is her confident smile.
