Chapter 22: Chapter 22

"Get ready we are leaving soon." he walks out of bed. Apparently, we slept in his room on the same bed, we aren't married yet, I can imagine the gossip in the palace.

He walks out of the toilet with a cloth tied around his waist. I fling my stare away to avoid eye contact. While I'm feeling uncomfortable and trying my very best to act normal, it doesn't even bother him at all.  Anyway, I wasn't ready to see anything, traumatising.

"Don't waste time, in the bathroom so we can take off soon. I will be waiting for you, downstairs for breakfast." he walks out of the room.

I rush to the bathing bow in his toilet and I simply wash my face, all the products I took from the human's world makes me feel so clean. I think I can stay a month without bathing and I will still feel so clean.

I hurry out of the room, I find a maid strutting by the door. "This way my Princess" she points. I simply nod at her and follow the path which leads me to a room with Adams and his father, seated on a very long woody dinning table eating.

"This way, Princess." Adams stares at the maid and she immediately moves me to him and she helps me take a seat just by his side.

"My Princess. How was your night in the Palace?" the King tries to create a conversation.

"Traumatic!" I look at him straight in his eyes "I kept rolling in bed all night unable to close my eyes."

This renders the King speechless and worried.

"I can't wait to leave this place," I add in a sarcastic tone.

"Sorry about the terrible night. I hope all these unfortunate events will be corrected when next you visit again, princess." The king said with a forceful smile, but the princess wasn't buying it.

"Hopefully." I carelessly retort. "Please can we leave now." I turn to Adams. "Sure!" he nods.

"Thank you!." I get up from where I'm seated and walk out. He immediately follows me.

He helps me climb on a horse while he climbs on another. Five other men on their horses escort us. We jog through the forest. Adams and I, are leading as we jog ahead of them.

"Stop!" Adams say as he stops jogging. He immediately unmount his horse and he helps me down. "I feel people's presence."

He hides with me behind some tall trees and he asks his men to gently move ahead. As soon as the move, they got cut into an ambuscade with a few strange men with weapons ready to fight.

The men attack us and fight our men. Some fight in their human form while some in their werewolf form slashing each other to death. I see blood splashing all over as they kill mercilessly.

Only two men were left, resisting the remaining strange men. They were about ten or so.

"I have to help them." Adams murmur in discomfort as he witness his men being killed. "Don't shake from here no matter what happens." he undresses himself.

I was shivering in fear but as soon as Adams shifted into his wolf form and met his men, I became secured. I watch him fight like the greatness that he is.

OMG, he is so strong and he kills them without even received a slash. The way his claws move swiftly and the fierceness in his eyes makes me feel tempted joining him in the fight.

Suddenly, I feel a hand pressing my mouth so hard that I can't let any sound or even call Adams for help. I battle but two huge men carry me along with them.

We move for a while, they later tie my mouth with a cloth and tie me flat on a horse like a thing with no life in it.

Adam wins the fight and turns to where I'm supposed to be, still in his wolf form. He sees no one. He immediately shifts back into his human form screaming the hell out of him. Screaming so loud that birds escaped from their niches flying in the air.

All his men are dead. He dresses up and heads to the kingdom.

• • •  • Adam's POV •  • • •

I ride into the forest, helplessly with slump shoulders. I feel insulted, disgraced and above all weak. Weak because I wasn't able to protect my Princess.

My heart falls into my stomach as I stand near the gate to the palace of the Solis Kingdom. The gate opens quickly than usual, anyway this is how I felt at the moment like everything is going on faster than usual.

"The Prince is here." some maids run in search of Maryline and Edmonton.

Maryline rushes out with joy and with tears streaming down her eyes, making them brighter.

She finds Adams standing like a useless piece of wood "Where is my Eve?." rush out of the gate and back to him "Adam where is Eve?" she clenches my cloth with no fear

"Maryline!." Edmonton scolds her as he steps out of the palace to meet them "He is a prince for crying out loud and you have to respect him." he takes her hands off my dress by force.

"Where is Eve?. I thought you said you were coming with her. Where is she?"

"Let that man be untied and treated, he has to survive. He is our only way to Eve." I walk into the palace.

"You heard what he said, do it," Edmonton yells at one of the guards by him.

While Maryline follows me  in, then Edmonton follows as well.

I narrate to them the short story of our journey, how we got into an ambuscade from unknown people.

Maryline can't help but slap me"Don't you ever do this, don't you ever take her without my permission?"

I remain in a truce despite all the resentment, I have towards her.

"She will soon be my wife get use to it."

"If only we find her alive. From the beatings, your father gave her to this kidnapping, I'm not sure the young girl will take it."

"Maryline, your reaction was uncalled for. You may leave." Edmonton opens the door for her.

"I can't even stand your presence anymore. Make sure you find my Eve," she warns me as if she I take any orders from her.

She immediately leaves, Edmonton closes the door behind and he furiously walks to me though he dare not over express his anger. After All, he knows who I am.

"The wedding is in a week, we have to find the princess, alive." he roams in the room "Oh the poor girl" he adds.

"Sure! But for now, there is nothing we know about those who attacked us. And if it's not my father, or you then it might be from another clan." I wonder aloud

"If it's from another clan then there must be a traitor among us, because no one knew about your todays Journey apart from your palace guard and the messenger you sent to me" Edmonton

"The traitor will be dealt with when the right time comes, for now, our priority is that eve is found alive. and the man I came with. He should receive good care."

"You are right ."

"Prepare me a room I will stay here until we find the princess also send a messenger to my father. He needs to be updated." With that, I walk out to the back of the house and I sit on the tree stump which is directly under Eve's room window.

"Her spot of, shield. This is how she calls this place. She use to sit here when  her father didn't want to see her. She hasn't had a normal life like many young girls of her age. She spends all her life hiding, suffering from her father's hatred just because of her sex. He wanted a boy..." she cruelly grins and frowns immediately.

"Why are you telling me all this?"

"She believed all her sufferings were over after her father's death, so strongly that I started to believe it. Until you showed up in her life."

"Her suffering is over, trust me." I get up, facing her.

"If you have any trouble with anybody settle it and let my Eve be sent back to me. I know she doesn't have any enemies, and if she is attacked is surely because of you. Please, I implore you to find her." tears helplessly flow from her eyes and this breaks my heart.
