Chapter 58: Chapter 58
Constance point of view:
My husband left for the trip today. I was in the hospital with Jocelyn. She came today to see grandfather. Ryan's mother left an hour ago. I was reading a book for grandfather when Jocelyn called me and informed me about her coming. I was glad that someone will be here to watch over grandfather with me.
Grandfather loves reading books so I was thinking that if I read a lot of books for him that he would wake up and put up a reading challenge with me as we normally do.I miss grandfather a lot, I can't wait for the day he will wake up. If Kevin is really involved in grandfather's accident, I will not forgive him. I will definitely make him pay.
“Constance, here, have some water. You have been reading for more than thirty minutes and I'm sure that your throat is dry already," Jocelyn said, handing a bottle of water to me.
“Thanks," I mumble as I collect the bottle of water. I open it and gulp down half of the content.
“Your grandfather is a good person, I really hope he wakes up very soon."
“I hope so too. Grandfather doesn't deserve this at all," I chip in, my eyes staring at Grandfather who's sleeping peacefully on the bed. He's on the life supporting machine with the oxygen mask covering his nose.
“Any progress in the investigation? I really want the culprit that did this to Mr. Williams to pay."
I already told Constance about my husband hiring a private investigator to look into grandfather's accident because we do not believe it was a normal accident.
“We have a suspect now and you can't believe who it is." I stare at her curious face. Her brows are raised and she's ready to hear what else I'm about to say. “It's Kevin, the eldest grandson of the family."
“What! His grandson? Wait… are you trying to tell me that Mr. Williams' grandson was involved in his accident?" Jocelyn asked. Looking at her face I can see that she's finding what I said hard to believe.
“He's just a suspect for now but my guts told me that he's the one that did it. Hannah once told me he is greedy towards the family's property. What I can't believe is that he went to this length because of his greediness."
“If the so-called Kevin was involved with Mr. Williams' accident, then it means that he's a monster. He's a monster for trying to kill his grandfather." Jocelyn looks so pissed. He needs to pay if he's actually the one.
”The private investigator is on it, we want to gather evidence and if the evidence leads to him. He will surely pay for his sins," I said and Jocelyn agreed with me.
At that moment, live news is being displayed on the television in the private ward. Jocelyn and I weren't actually paying attention to it but it somehow drew my attention. I put my attention to it and then Jocelyn did the same.
It's news about a plane crash. I didn't know why my heart skipped at that moment as my mind quickly flew to my husband. He left three hours ago and according to the distance, he's supposed to land in Africa in an hour's time.
Just then my phone rang and I picked it up.
“Hello! Is this Mrs Constance Williams?" The caller asked.
I gulped down nervously before replying.
“Yes I am." My voice is barely audible but luckily the caller heard me.
“I'm sorry to inform you that your husband's private jet crashed…."
That was the last sentence I heard before I was consumed in shock. I dropped to the floor with the phone shattering on the floor.
No, no, this can't happen…. No, not my husband. I felt like the world was turned upside down. I couldn't see and darkness was slowly taking over me.
“Constance, are you okay?" I heard Jocelyn ask as she touched me. She was further talking but I couldn't hear anything she was saying afterwards and the next thing I felt was darkness totally engulfing me.
….
I was trying so hard to open my eyes. My eyes felt heavy and my head hurt like hell. When I finally pushed my eyes open, the first thing I saw was the white ceiling.
“Oh! Constance, thank God you are awake." I turned to my side to see Jocelyn, her eyes were teary and red which shows she had been crying. “I was scared to death, you have been unconscious for the whole day, I thought something bad had happened to you."
I was unconscious for a whole day? But why was I unconscious? I actually have a very bad dream. Someone called me to tell me that my husband's plane had crashed. That was such a bad dream. I need to call my husband to know if he has reached his destination. I tried standing up but my head hurts.
“Let me help you." Jocelyn helped me sit up. I looked around and found out that I'm in a hospital ward. What am I doing here? Jocelyn said I was unconscious. Could that be the reason I was brought here? I'm still confused with the unconscious thing. What could make me unconscious for a whole day?
“My phone, give me my phone, let me call my husband," I said to Jocelyn. I expected her to move and get my phone but she wasn't moving.
“Joce, get me my phone. I need to call my husband and know if he has arrived in Africa." She still didn't move; rather she started crying. My heart started beating loud in my chest. Whatever I'm feeling now, I do not want to believe it. It was a dream and that is what it will be, it will never be a reality.
“Joce, Why the fuck are you not moving. I said you should get me my phone, I need to call my husband!" I snapped. Tears are already streaming down my cheeks.
Jocelyn's silence and the tears in her eyes are telling me something else that my heart doesn't want to believe.
“I'm sorry Constance but your husband is dead. It's all-over the news, his private jet was found ...."
“No! No! It's not true. I will never believe what you are saying. My husband is still alive! My husband is still alive!!" I holler in tears as I struggle to climb down the bed and go get my phone myself. Since Jocelyn can't get it for me, I will go get it myself and call my husband. I'm sure he's waiting for my call, he will definitely answer me.
“Constance, calm down, you are still weak and you might remove your IV." Jocelyn tried holding me down on the bed, she's crying too. I tried fighting her but my body is damn weak to do anything right now.
“My husband is alive, Jocelyn, I need to go and call him. Please let me go." I cried. I felt like I'm not breathing, the pain in my heart was too much. How can I believe that my husband I saw some hours ago is dead. No, I will never believe it. My dear husband is not dead. This is all a joke!
…
It's already three days after it has been confirmed that the popular musician Jace Williams died in a plane crash.
That was trash! I will never believe that my husband is dead. Never!
His body wasn't found. Though they said that he must have burned to ashes with the pilot and Victor who was also in the jet with him, I will never believe that.
I am confident that my husband is still alive. He will come back to me. I was discharged from the hospital yesterday, I found myself in our room at the beach house. That was our favorite place to spend time together.
This place holds a lot of beautiful memories shared by us. I will wait for him here, I'm sure he will come for me.
Jocelyn was with me since I was discharged from the hospital until she left to buy food some minutes ago. I told her not to buy the food, I don't have any little appetite in me but Jocelyn is so stubborn to listen.
If I had known I wouldn't have forced my husband to go on the trip when he said that he doesn't want to go. If he didn't go on that trip, he would have been alive now. No, he's alive. My husband is alive. I'm sure of it.
The internet is on fire, everyone is crying and wailing but I will not cry with them because my husband is not dead. He will come to me. He promised never to leave me so I'm sure he will come back to me. He loves me so much. He knows that if he leaves me, I will be hurt and he can never hurt me so he will definitely not leave me.
“Baby, Daddy won't leave us right?" I caress my stomach as tears slide down my cheeks. My eyes are already red and swollen, I don't feel any life in me.
I can say that the only thing that keeps me moving is my baby. When I was in the hospital, the doctor found out that I am four weeks pregnant. I was already feeling lifeless when he told me the good news. I was at the verge of giving up but the news of my pregnancy brought a little life to me.
I am pregnant with my husband's child so I'm sure that he will surely come back to see me give birth to his baby. All these gave me hope. I'm sure my husband will return to me.
“You will return right?" I wailed in pain. My husband, is he dead or alive? What should I believe?
I don't know what is more painful. Is it the fact that my husband is dead or the fact that grandfather is in coma and I don't know if he will survive? Everything is just so painful.
“Honey, I believe you are not dead. Please come back to me soon, this pain is too much. My birthday is slowly approaching. You promised to celebrate it with me so you must come back to me no matter what. I can't celebrate my birthday without you," I mumble in tears as I stare at his picture.
I held the picture frame in my chest as I wept bitterly. The more I cry, the more severe the pain in my heart.
I touched and kissed the key pendant of the necklace he gave me. “I hold the key to your heart so I believe that you will definitely come back to me."
He told me that with this necklace, I can feel his presence when he's not there with me. I'm definitely feeling his presence and I believe that he will come back to me.
Just then, I heard the door click open. I didn't bother to look, I'm sure it's Jocelyn.
But the voice I heard next is a deep manly voice. I quickly recognized the voice.
Darren….
