Chapter 50: Chapter 50

Karen's POV

As soon as we stepped out of the doctor's office. I found Brody in the hallway, he had removed the drip on his body and was staring at me. I looked at the doctor and he stared at me with a blank expression. Brody was walking towards me as everyone looked at him in amazement.

When he finally got to my side, he hugged me. For a minute, it felt like we were the only ones in the world. I wanted us to be together forever. I slowly released myself from him. "Karen," he called out and looked at me with a smile. "I love you so much."

He finally said those words. "I love you too." I replied and hugged him again. The nurses escorted him back to his ward and my mom turned to face the doctor. "What just happened?" She asked him.

The doctor narrowed his eyes at me. His expression, troubled. He stared at me as if he was confused. I had never seen him so shocked. "I must have switched the medical reports mistakenly. You should go and stay with Brody and try to see if he remembers all his family members." He told me, still confused.

"Switched the medical reports, How?" I asked him, overwhelmed. He was definitely not going to say that it was a miracle.

"I'll rerun the test, there's a possibility that your husband doesn't have kidney failure." He answered and walked back into his office.

I turned to face my mom. "Mom, what's going on?" I asked her.

She was also confused too, my phone rang and I hurriedly picked it. "Hello Karen, how's Brody?"

It was Helen, Brody's sister. I cleared my throat and answered her. "Hi, Brody's alright. He'll be discharged soon."

She expressed her gratitude to me. "Thanks for everything, you've been a huge support to us. Mom was worried, she refused to eat."

I chuckled softly. "I'm sure she would eat, she cares about her son."

"And one more thing," Helen said and paused. "I love the way you handled the press. You did a great job, mom's really excited."

"I have to go now, I need to check up on Brody." I told her and she hung up. I kept the phone back in my pocket and heaved a sigh of relief.

"Who was that?" Mom asked me.

"Helen, Brody's younger sister." I answered and walked into Brody's ward.

His face brightened up when he saw me and I winked at him. "Getting better huh?" I asked him and he smiled charmingly.

"I've never been better. Thanks for staying close to me and I'm sorry for making you worry a lot."

"It's actually nothing, you're my husband and I should help you get better."

"After this, we will get a proper wedding." He assured me.

I nodded and sat down on the small chair near him. "I'm glad you're alive."

"What did the doctor say?"

"Nothing important."

My mom walked inside and he sat up on the bed. "Good afternoon, ma'am."

"My son-in-law," my mom called out and he chuckled. This was how things should be, we should always stand by each other. "I'm sorry for not telling you the truth, Karen was supposed to tell you the truth herself but she's so stubborn." My mom joked and we all laughed.

"Where are my family?" He asked.

"They want us to come back to Texas." I told him with a smile.

"Yeah, we'll get married and have children."

I chuckled softly. "How many children do you want?" I asked him with a smirk.

He gave me a funny look. "Maybe fifty children would do."

I laughed and the doctor walked in. He looked at me and checked Brody's vitals. "I'm really sorry but I mistakenly gave you the wrong medical report. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Brody and he doesn't have kidney failure. I'm sorry for making you scared." He apologized and I heaved a sigh of relief.

Mom nodded and hugged me. "That's a huge relief for me, I thought my daughter was going to donate..."

I interrupted with a fake laughter and smiled at Brody, I absolutely didn't want her to complete her statement. The doctor looked at me and continued. "He'll be discharged this evening." He announced and left immediately.

Brody shot me a surprised but offended look. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't want to scare you and besides, the doctor told us he would carry out another medical test." I answered.

Mom got a phone call and she walked out of the ward, "I'm sorry for making you go through all this." He apologized.

A smile appeared on my face and I placed a kiss on his forehead. "I'm also sorry for deceiving you, Bill is back and he wants to blackmail us by sending the proof of the contract to the public. He wants everyone to know that our relationship is fake."

"But it's no longer fake and we're no longer pretending about our feelings." He said.

I shrugged. "I know but I didn't think Bill would stop until he has gotten what he wants."

"Where in the world did you meet that man from?"

"Bill was my senior in high school. I had a crush on him," I answered and Brody frowned. "That was before I met you." I assured him and he smiled.

Mom walked in and looked at us. "I'm afraid there's bad news and also good news," She began. "Will you like to hear the bad news first?" She asked him.

He shook his head. "No, I think good things come before bad things so I'll love to hear the good news first."

She cleared a throat and looked at me. "Karen, that call was for you." She revealed.

A gasp escaped my lips. "You picked my call?" I asked, almost shouting. I checked my pocket and realized my phone was not there. How did she do it?

She chuckled. "Not my fault, I wanted to play a cooking game on your phone and a call came in. I couldn't ignore the caller." She said and handed my phone back to me.

"Not fair!" I replied and shot her an offended look.

She turned to Brody. "The good news is that your father is around. He is in the mansion and he wants you to be in Texas tomorrow."

"And me?" I inquired with a grin on my face.

"He didn't ask for you," She answered with a smirk.

"That's not good news, I don't like my dad. He's too authoritative and annoying."

Mom chuckled softly. "There's no bad news but Helen is welcoming a second baby."

I and Brody exchanged an uneasy glance. "She was pregnant?" Brody asked.

"I guess so." I answered with a genuine smile. I was really happy for her.

"Her stomach wasn't big, I don't understand." He voiced out in a confused tone.

Looking at him, I giggled. "It's probably a cryptic pregnancy." I told him.

"What's that?" Mom asked.

"Cryptic pregnancy is the phenomenon whereby women do not become consciously aware of their pregnancy until the last weeks of gestation or in some cases until they give birth. Many case studies report anecdotal cases where even relatives and family doctors do not become aware of the pregnancy." I explained gently.

Mom coughed and we looked at her. "Unfortunately, Helen lost the baby."
