Chapter 13: Chapter 13

Karen's POV

I walked towards the door and tried to open it. It was already locked. My heart skipped a beat wondering how troublesome his children could be. "Tricia.... Alvin, open this door right now." I commanded in the most authoritative voice.

"Stay there for sometime, have fun." Tricia said loudly from outside the door.

The images of knives and sharp objects filled my head. "Don't go to the kitchen," I shouted, wondering if they heard me. When there was no reply, I sat down feeling dejected. "What do you think they're doing?" I asked.

"Planning a surprise." He answered, looking at his face, I wondered if he even cared about his children.

"This is all your fault. I shouldn't have come to your bedroom."

"I'm sorry, I didn't know the children will act like this." He apologized to me. I blamed myself for coming to his house. It was all my fault, I silently hoped Brody didn't call Emily to ask about my whereabouts.

I looked at him and an idea popped into my head. "Can't we break the door?" I asked him and he looked at me, his eyes widened. I tossed him a rueful look. "What choice do we have?"

"Breaking my expensive door is not an option."

I sighed. "Okay, do you have a spare key?" I asked.

"I don't."

"What should we do?" I asked, terribly confused.

"Maybe they'll listen to me," he said and shouldered me aside standing close to the door. "Kids!" He ordered, making his voice sound authoritative and bold. "Unlock this door this second."

I looked at him surprised at how he made his voice authoritative. He looked back at me with a smile. "Daddy, I don't think that's going to be possible right now, you're just going to wait for some seconds and we'll open the door soon." Alvin said after a minute, sounding sad.

Bill looked at me embarrassed and I chuckled. "It's actually not funny. Maybe the kids want us to talk about our love life." He said and I frowned.

Was this his idea? "You're married." I reminded him, trying to make my voice sound calm.

"I don't know, this doesn't look like marriage."

"I'm a contracted girlfriend." I said and his face became dull.

"A contracted girlfriend? Yeah, it's my fault actually, I shouldn't have let you sign that contract. I was too forward and wanted you to sign the contract quickly. I thought I would forget about you but I just can't." He replied miserably.

"Brody," I called out softly. "I'm sorry but this can't work. You're married and I'm someone's girlfriend."

"You're not Brody's real girlfriend and I can process my divorce papers quickly." He said.

I raised an eyebrow in surprise. "You can't possibly divorce your wife because of me, I'm not going to marry someone who's already married."

He almost shouted at me. "I'll divorce her, I'm totally in love with you. Don't you get it?" He asked.

"You're crazy and sick." I retorted.

He held my arms violently and I winced in pain. "I'm crazy for you and I'm sick because you're rejecting me."

"You're hurting me." I said, trying to release myself from his grip.

He let go and walked towards the window. "This is my fault. It's totally my fault, I shouldn't have allowed you to sign that contract. Brody is such a lucky man."

I shrugged and stared at him. "Bill, please stop it. I'm supposed to fall in love with you but your behavior is totally bad."

He tried to force himself on me and I kicked him and pushed him to the bed. He groaned in pain and looked at me with a smirk.

I hit the door angrily. "Tricia, open this door right now. Your dad wants to kill me." I shouted and faked a cry. Bill held me from behind tightly and I struggled.

"Don't shout and we can have fun." I kicked him with an elbow and he fell on the bed.

I looked at him frightened, he was certainly not alright. "Come near me and I'll scream."

Brody's POV

I smiled at Diego and he chuckled. "You love chocolates." I remarked as he licked his fingers.

"Yes Uncle, your chocolate is the best."

Looking at him, I wondered what it felt like to have a child. "That's good. Go to your room now and sleep, I'll be going out soon." I ordered with a charming smile.

He nodded and stood up, he kissed me on my cheeks and ran into his bedroom. I chuckled and wiped my cheek with a serviette. Bringing out my phone, I decided to call Karen, I found her number on the duplicate contract papers.

"Hi Karen." I said as soon as she picked the call.

"I'm sorry, this is not Karen." The caller replied and I heard a muffled laughter in the background.

"Sorry, who are you?"

"I'm Emily, her best friend. Who's this?" She asked.

I cleared my throat. "I'm Brody, where's Karen?" I asked.

"She's not at home right now."

I was taken aback, there was no way Karen wouldn't be at home. She looked and behaved like a responsible woman. "Karen is not irresponsible." I told her.

She laughed over the phone. "That's what you think, she followed her boyfriend to his house."

I frowned and scratched my cheeks. "His house address?"

"His name is Bill and he's your therapist. I'm sure you also know his house address." She answered and cut the line. I looked at the receiver's ID wondering if I placed a call to Karen.

Picking my car keys from the dining table, I stood up and walked towards the door. Nothing would stop me from finding out the truth.

Karen's POV

The door opened and I ran out. "Aunt, I'm sorry." Tricia apologized for her actions.

I ignored her and climbed down the stairs. "We were actually preparing a surprise for you." Alvin said and hugged me. I couldn't possibly be angry at his kids. I watched Bill come down from the stairs.

"It's alright, it's not your fault but next time, don't lock two adults in the same room," I said and looked at Bill, he avoided my gaze. "Anything could happen." I muttered and he looked at me.

"I'm sorry Karen, I just wanted to prevent you from shouting and waking the neighbors up." He defended.

Looking at him, I felt like insulting him but I just couldn't. "Tricia... Alvin, I should go now. I can't sleep here."

"Karen," Bill called out and I looked at him. "You can't leave right now. It's late in the night and it's dangerous." He added.

"At least, it's more dangerous staying in your house." I replied and heard a knock on the door. Alvin ran towards the door and opened it, he just gazed at the man standing at the door but I couldn't see the man's face.

"Who are you?" I heard him ask the man and I walked over to the door.

"Alvin, who's there?" I asked and looked at the man standing in front of me. My heart leaped into my throat as I looked at him.

What was he doing here?
