Chapter 61: Chapter 61

Renata put her shopping bags into the trunk.

"Auntie, let me put it in," Renata said while taking the plastic and paperbag held by Aleta.

There was already a driver on standby to help them. However, Renata with her attention-seeking attitude did it all.

"Renata, let the driver do it," said Aleta as Renata quickly carried all the items in her hands into the trunk.

Renata turned her head slightly towards her. Smiling slightly, she shook her head. "It's okay, Auntie."

Aleta was even more amazed by Renata's kindness. Aleta folded her arms across her chest and waited for the woman. When Renata finished putting the luggage into the trunk she immediately circled the car to get into the car on the right side. Meanwhile, Aleta entered from the left side. The two women entered at the same time.

"Aunty, I wish you'd become Melvin's wife sooner," Aleta murmured when they were both seated in the car.

Hearing that, Renata smiled. She tucked her hair behind her ear. Then she held Aleta's hand.

"I hope Auntie is always healthy," she said in a soft, artificial tone.

Unfortunately, Aleta didn't realize the pretense.

Hearing Renata's story that Danas only lazed around the house, never did any housework, and only did it when Melvin was home made Aleta's blood boil. When she arrived home, the woman immediately stepped wide into her house.

"Renata you don't have to carry our shopping. Let the servant carry it," Aleta said to Renata before her son's girlfriend wanted to carry that much stuff by herself.

Renata nodded her head. Pretending to be a gentle submissive. "Yes, Auntie."

Passing the servants in the living room, Aleta stopped her footsteps for a moment. "Where's Danas?" she asked.

Some of the servants had already walked out of the house to collect Aleta's purchases from the trunk of the car. A few more stayed behind to serve the newly arrived Aleta.

"Mrs. Danas is sitting in the back garden, ma'am," Christina replied.

None of the young servants dared to answer Aleta directly. Especially with Aleta's tone immediately rising.

Hearing Christina's answer, Aleta simply walked away into the back garden. In her heart she had expected this. Renata was right. Danas would be spending more time at home, with the woman not even doing a single chore.

Aleta turned her head to the right and left. Her eyepiece quickly searched for her son-in-law's whereabouts. When she found Danas sitting in the garden gazebo, Aleta immediately approached her son-in-law.

Renata followed close behind. She was ready to witness Danas' next misery. She smiled slightly when she heard Aleta yell at Danas.

"Danas!"

Renata felt satisfied. She considered this yell as a reply because she had previously gotten that yell from Melvin. Danas felt the same way as her.

Even so, Renata was not satisfied if Danas only felt that way.

"I think the rumor that you're lazy is true. Seeing how you've been lounging at home from waking up until now."

Danas looked up. He struggled to get down from the gazebo and stood in front of Aleta.

"Mom, you're home." Danas really didn't expect Aleta to suddenly seek him out and scold him like this.

"You feel like a queen, huh? Oh, yes, that's for sure. Even from the look on your face, I can tell that you're taking advantage of being the mistress of this house by acting as you please," Aleta snapped. The middle-aged woman continued to rebuke Danas with her sharp words.

Renata, who was standing behind Aleta, smiled very widely. It was caught by Danas' brown irises.

Renata spoke silently to Danas. "This is the time of my vengeance. Misery for you," Renata said.

Making Danas know that Aleta's current rude behavior was part of Renata's plan. Danas didn't know what Renata had told Aleta. Again, Danas couldn't defend herself. Aleta wouldn't believe her. So, it was useless if Danas denied all that.

"Sorry, Mom." That was all Danas could say.

"Sorry, you say? I don't need any apologies from you!" Aleta snapped.

"What you want Danas to do now, Danas will do," Danas said again. She tried to be modest. Responding to her mother-in-law's emotions with patience.

"Right now you have to cook! Don't just relax at home because you have servants," Aleta said.

Danas gave a small nod. "Okay, Ma, Danas will cook," Danas replied in the end.

Danas walked into her house. She turned into the kitchen to start cooking for her mother-in-law. Even though Danas had moved, Aleta continued to insinuate and scold Danas.

All the servants in the kitchen looked at each other. They had no idea of the situation when Danas suddenly came into the kitchen.

"Everyone move out of the way! No one is helping Danas. I want her to work today. Are you using your pregnancy as a shield for your lazy attitude? I won't be weakened by that!"

Aleta gave a warning to her other workers not to help Danas at all which was immediately given a nod by all her servants.

Danas started cooking. From washing all the ingredients himself to preparing the tools and ingredients. Danas did it all nimbly. There was no difficulty, because Danas was used to doing that.

However, even though Danas did all the work properly, Aleta always found a way to scold her daughter-in-law. Even on trivial things, Aleta would scold Danas severely. Danas repeatedly had to be surprised by Aleta's yelling.

"You didn't wash it properly! Are you going to poison me?!"

Danas immediately shook her head and went back to washing the ingredients again. Even though Danas already felt that she was doing it right, everyone who saw Danas' work would also have such a judgment. However, Aleta still scolded Danas for doing the job right.

Danas cooked chicken soup. She had cut all the ingredients and put them into the boiling water. Then she turned to seasoning the soup. Aleta watched from afar.

Her eyes kept watching Danas, ready to scold him if she made even one small mistake.

Danas finished making the seasoning and put it into the soup. She stirred the soup. Aleta behind Danas kept watching.

Then Danas took a spoon to taste the flavor. Danas thought it was good. She turned off the stove.

"Mom, it's ready," Danas said.

Aleta just walked out of the kitchen. "Serve it to me," Aleta said as she turned to leave.

Danas nodded her head. When Aleta had left the kitchen Danas let out a long breath. Danas even realized that she was sweating. Danas looked to the side where the waiters were lined up.

The waiters were encouraging Danas with their eyes. Then Danas smiled slightly.

"Madam, let us take you to the front."

Danas nodded her head. "Thank you, yes," Danas said.

The waiter immediately served Danas' deliciously flavorful homemade soup into bowls. Then, they brought it to the dining table. Danas followed her.

Aleta was already seated at the dining table. Waiting for Danas's dish to be served in front of her.

Danas stayed at the edge of the dining table. Waiting for her mother-in-law's response when she tasted his cooking.

Aleta spooned the soup into her mouth. Delicious, that was the word that came to her mind when the food touched her tongue. However, the words that came out of her mouth were the opposite.

"What kind of weird cooking is this?!" Aleta snapped.

"Have you always been bad at doing homework?!" Aleta said as she glanced sharply at Danas.

"I still don't get why Melvin is still sticking with you."

"Wh-what's wrong, Mom?" asked Danas in confusion. She thought the food was good when she tasted it earlier.

Aleta chuckled, "Even you can't figure out your mistakes," Aleta said.

Then Danas immediately went back into the kitchen. She tasted the soup again and felt that there was nothing strange about it.

"You still don't think your cooking is strange?" asked Aleta as she folded her arms across her chest.

The atmosphere in the kitchen was tense again. As it did, the door to the house opened. Showing the presence of Melvin who had just returned from his office.

Melvin frowned when he saw the commotion inside the kitchen. Making him immediately swing his legs towards the kitchen.

Melvin's furrowed brow turned into an angry expression when he saw Danas wearing an apron and standing by the stove.

"Danas are you cooking?!" Melvin snapped.

Danas gasped at the snapping.

"How many times have I told you to stop doing such a tiring job!" Melvin scolded again. Then Melvin's gaze shifted to his mother.

"You made Danas do this?" Melvin pointed a finger at her.

Aleta, who saw Melvin's anger, was stunned.

"N-no," Aleta said nervously. Then Aleta pointed at Danas who was now looking down.

"Danas insisted on cooking," said Aleta, which made Danas raise her face and look at her mother-in-law in disbelief.
