Chapter 97: Chapter 97
Before the old Michaelson could even calm down from his engulfing anger towards his stubborn assistant, Enzo, the youngest IT in the team, called for their attention.
"I got her file. Not much, but I got what there is to find," the guy with Anthony on his ID sheepishly stated.
"Show me," Leandro Michaelson answered instantly. He did not mind what the guy just said about not having much. He was too eager to care and too keen to know anything there is about this impressive girl.
An A4 file with details filled the widescreen right in front of Leandro, and he meticulously checked almost every letter on every word written on the file. But to his great disappointment, the file only has her name, age, academic records, phone number, and home address. But as the written name was Brianna Peters, Leandro did not realize that Anna was Brianna. The person with the name Brianna Peters which Charles Anderson had blurted out when Anna appeared before them.
"What? Is that all you got?" Leandro's face turned ferocious as he looked at Anthony.
"Scan the face of that guy Anna shot earlier for facial recognition," Enzo calmly instructed the deadly pale white Anthony.
The young IT guy was so relieved to hear a new instruction that he moved in unbelievable speed to do as Enzo had ordered.
Another file replaced Anna's on the screen.
"His name is Charles Anderson," Anthony stated. "Ex-marine. Now owns a mercenary agency."
"Check the file of his men on payroll," Enzo ordered again.
The screen showed a list of names.
There were no pictures to identify the names on the list. No one knows if all of them are still alive or already dead. The results did not satisfy Leandro a bit.
"I want to know more," Leandro demanded. "I am sure there is more to find. Just dig deeper," he added.
"Can you play that video clip again?" Enzo asked Anthony in an ordering manner with a firm nod upwards of his head.
Anthony was scared, but he did not dally, nor did it show more than his ashen face. His moves were swift. He did not say anything but did everything as asked of him. That is what he is best in, doing tasks in front of a computer, typing on his keyboards. He did not add to the details that he found a file, but he could not break its firewall, so he only got a little information. Anthony thought he better crack that code and have that file first before informing his bosses about it.
"Stop right there!" Enzo ordered. He asked Anthony to press the pause button when it played the part where the guy named Charles Anderson and the other guys with him at the table stood up in surprise at Anna's presence. And Anthony did as Enzo has ordered. He pressed the pause button then waited for the following command.
Leandro was attentively listening to Enzo's every word. He had a wild and funny feeling his assistant may not make him wait overnight to hear what was in his mind that Enzo would stubbornly keep from Leandro until he was sure of his thoughts to be right or wrong. The old Michaelson was getting excited, but he was wise enough not to let it show too early. Just like some fruits, unripe ones can taste awful when plucked out too early from the tree.
"Turn the volume into max, and play it," Enzo said.
Anthony did as asked.
The oldest man in the group of men at the table roared with fierce anger to Anna's direction, and knowing there was no one else than her, the message was directly being said to Anna.
"Brianna Peters, what the hell are you doing?"
Enzo quickly responded with a new command for Anthony.
"Stop! Stop!"
Leandro was now holding his chair's armrest as he was unsure whether he should stand up or stay seated as he watched Enzo's intense reactions from watching the video clip and giving orders. No matter how the old Michaelson observed, he could not read what was inside his assistant's mind. Leandro suddenly thought of Anna again. He took a deep breath, a faint smile graced his face, and with helplessness, he slumped on his chair. He decided to extend his patience and let Enzo do his thing. Because even if he wanted to interrupt, he would only slow things down, and the result he was waiting for would be delivered with a delay.
"Check the file of names under this man's payroll list again," Enzo walked over to stand next to Anthony.
"Now, show me the file you found about Anna."
"Can you put them both on the screen at the same time?"
"Highlight the third name on the payroll list. Can you make the fonts larger?"
Enzo's commands and requests came out one after the other. And Anthony followed them all without failure nor words.
Leandro was seated a few steps behind Enzo. He could see the screen clearly even if the font size of the words were kept the way they were. He was curious to analyze what Enzo was seeing from these two files.
"What am I looking at, Lorenzo?" Leandro could no longer wait, so he asked.
"Master, this file here on the right is the information we have about Miss Anna so far," Enzo answered mannerly.
"I know. And?" Excitement overwhelmed Leandro, but he could not keep his tone sounding derisive to indicate that Enzo had just stated something too obvious.
But Enzo is used to his Master's nature and behavior. He did not feel any offense. He also enjoys making the old man wait, knowing he is too eager to hear what Enzo is going to say. He was inwardly rejoicing that his antics were working just as he expected them to since Leandro was reacting how he anticipated him. It was a private joke between the two of them. Over time, they have learned how to humor each other, with only the two of them aware of it.
"And this one on the left is the names of mercenaries under the agency owned by this man Anna shot in the chest earlier," Enzo calmly stated.
"And? What are you trying to say?" Leandro was now glaring at Enzo, realizing he was deliberately being made to wait. "Lorenzo! I will pull your tongue and cut it to a million pieces!"
The IT staff held their breath. Not because they were afraid but because they might burst out laughing. Everyone knows that Leandro Michaelson is a scary Lion when it comes to anyone, but there are people of exceptions. First is his dearest grandson, Lucien, then his son and daughter-in-law, and last on the list is Enzo. And it is always a sight to behold when the cold-natured assistant could pull his tricks on their Master Leandro Michaelson. But as they were all seated in their respective desks with their backs to the old Michaelson, they could hide their expressions, and Leandro was unaware of their reactions.
"Spill it out. Now!" Leandro clenched his teeth as he ordered.
"I just noticed that Miss Anna is Brianna Peters. This name is also among the mercenaries in the payroll list of the agency owned by the man she shot earlier. That means she worked for the man, or to say precisely, she used to work for that man. But she no longer does, witnessing how she did not hesitate to pull the trigger," Enzo stated his understanding with professionalism.
"So it means our Lucien's secretary is not the usual kind? And she is a mercenary, but she is against her old boss now and serves her loyalty to Lucien?" Leandro was astounded.
He was prepared to hear something out of the ordinary about Anna's identity, but he did not expect it to be this much intense.
