Chapter 176: Chapter 176

“Dad, what do you think no about him?”

Brianna reached for the bottle of whiskey and opened its lid; then, she poured a single shot amount of its content on the spot of soil between where she was leisurely sitting while Lucien was still kneeling with his butt on his heels and Leith Peters’ tombstone.

“Do you think he will withstand and tolerate life with a stubborn and clueless about family things like me?”

Lucien butt in to make known his answers to both his dearly loved Anna and his parents-in-law.

“I am very sure about that!” Lucien started with exceeding confidence.

Brianna glanced at her.

“Nobody knows what the future brings,” she somehow seemed to remind Lucien not to say words he might not keep when challenged by circumstances in and of life.

“You might be right about that, but I would rather die than make you sad because I am prepared to receive your wrath more than anyone else’s,” Lucien pointed out that he was pretty aware Brianna would not tolerate his foolishness if he ever does any.

“Honestly speaking, I have never been uncertain in my life when it comes to making decisions until now,” Brianna slightly shivered as she spoke due to the gentle blow of the early evening wind in the place from the mountainsides.

“Babe, let's get going; we can come back when the sun rises tomorrow morning if you want,” Lucien worriedly said as he stood up from his seat and moved to sit behind Brianna and hugged her in front his body.

“Or we can finish this bottle of drink to warm us up,” Brianna said with a shrug of her shoulders and a smile on her face.

But before Lucien could even respond, she already took a big swig of drink in her hold.

“I won’t stop whatever you want to do, but take it easy,” Lucien dotingly reminded her.

“Your turn,” Brianna extended her arm to hand the bottle to Lucien, but the latter shook his head with a defeated smile.

“As much as I want to join you, I don't think it would be a good idea,” he chuckled as he replied.

Brianna took another gulp before she asked.

“And may I know why is that?”

“I have to be responsible for you now,” he answered with pride, then he turned to the tombstones as if he was talking to his parents-in-law in the flesh. “Right, mom? Dad?”

Brianna laughed at Lucien’s silliness, but she did not say anything against his words. She silently drank the whiskey, and after a few more swigs, she felt herself getting drunk as the alcohol started to kick in. Her face started to feel hot, and her words slipped her lips so swiftly, saying her thoughts without restraints.

“What do you suggest I do from now on?” Brianna asked Lucien.

The man could feel the changes in Brianna’s mood from before she started drinking to her mood now.

“If I say my suggestions, you promise not to get offended and get mad at me?” Lucien answered with slight teasing in his voice.

“I don’t make promises; a yes is a yes, and a no is a no,” Brianna started frankly. “What happens next would depend on what words would your mouth spit out of it. You should be prepared for whatever consequences your words may bring, or better watch out and not fall into a trap you made yourself.”

Lucien was flabbergasted. He thought that a drunken Anna would be easier to handle and trapped; he was foolishly mistaken.

“Now, I don't know if I should still say what I had in my mind, “ he whined. “I don't think I can anticipate whatever reactions you might have about my foolish mind’s silly thoughts.”

“I wonder how you are to live a lifetime with me in that fear for me,” Brianna chuckled. She took another gulp of whiskey while her eyes never leaving Lucien’s.

“Honey, it's not like I am scared of you as if you were a beast or a monster of any kind,” Lucien lovingly said with a hand clipping some strands of Anna’s hair to the back of her ear.

“No?” Brianna asked.

“Of course not!” Lucien eagerly retorted.

“Then what?!” Brianna asked, frowning in disbelief and confusion.

She is used to people being scared of her because of her ability to defend herself in whatever attack her opponents may throw at her. She was feared mostly in survival predicaments, so most of her enemies saw her as a monster.

“It is because I don't want to make you sad that I am willing to do whatever you want me to,” Lucien answered with a soft voice and loving tone. “But if in case I deem your demands to be outrageous and unreasonable, I will do my best to make you understand, and if not, I will have to make you surrender and follow my lead, instead,” Lucien started confidently, but his tone and voice remained the same.

Brianna was about to take another swig of the drink when she almost choked and coughed at Lucien’s words. The whiskey sprayed out of her mouth, which she hurriedly covered as she was subconsciously aware that she was right in front of her parents’ tombs.

Lucien was equally startled when he heard his beloved Anna coughed uncontrollably.

“Take it easy,” he tapped Brianna’s back gently, then rubbed his palm on it until she regained her breathing to normal.

“Sorry, dad! Sorry, mom!” Brianna said in between her coughs.

“It was my fault,” Lucien took the blame, facing the Peters couple’s grave.

“Lucien Michaelson!” Brianna groaned in annoyance as she could not quickly recover from her body’s response to her surprise.

“Yes, honey?” Lucien did not show fear despite the warning tone in Brianna’s way of calling his full name.

“Don’t you think you are becoming too bold around me?” Brianna asked with her eyes squinting as if calculating the man’s possible answers.

“Babe, let me just remind you,” Lucien moved his body to the side while he pulled her to the other side, and they faced each other. He was still seated behind Anna, hugging her from the back to keep her warm before she started drinking.

Then Lucien continued to speak his mind, starting into Brianna’s eyes.

“I have never been afraid of you,” he uttered. “I have always bent into your wishes because I wanted to spoil you the way I could as you do not think as usual women do.”

Brianna was about to retort, but her lips were sealed with Lucien’s in a captivating kiss, inviting and searching, seeking her honest feeling towards him.
