Chapter 175: Chapter 175

“I don’t know if you have noticed,” Brianna playfully snorted to tease the man, who was speaking with obvious nervous tensions. “But you haven’t even told them your name.”

Lucien scratched his head in embarrassment. He was too eager to make his intentions known to the Peters couple. He totally neglected to introduce himself formally. He pleadingly gave Brianna a look as if he was asking for rescue from her.

“Okay, let me introduce you to them,” Brianna felt funny, but she suppressed her laughter seeing the man was too tense. Then she sat crossed legs in front of her parents’ grave. She looked so close and comfortable, as if they had been this way even when they were still alive.

Mom, Dad,” Brianna started with a relaxed tone. “This is Lucien Michaelson.”

Lucien waited for more of what Brianna was going to say but felt hanging when her words took a halt. It seemed like she was done introducing him. He gave her a questioning look.

“What!?” Brianna asked as soon as she noticed his mien.

“Babe…?” Lucien whined.

Brianna tittered at his looks. To her, Lucien looked so funny.

“What do you want me to say?” She asked with a “duh”.

“Anything…!” Lucien replied anxiously. “At least, say something other than my name… or whatever you can think of…” he added, vexed.

“Ahhh, okay!” Brianna replied indifferently.

But Lucien felt nervous, so suddenly. His hand slipped to grip her thigh as if he wanted to stop her from saying anything, but he was a little too late, or Brianna must have intentionally ignored his silent plea.

“Mom, Dad, what he said was true. I promised to marry him because he wouldn’t share his warmth if I refused to take his bargain mmmmp…!” Lucien hurriedly covered Brianna’s mouth as she seemed to blabber so honestly in front of her parents about such things and he was so embarrassed. But as Brianna was not someone weak even for a woman, she was able to remove his hands off her face and continued even with struggle as Lucien would not let her be.  “While we were taken captives and put in a freezer truck,” she grinned widely, then she laughed out loud.

Lucien was speechless.

But as he saw Brianna laugh with pure joy and happiness, he could not be upset and feel mad at her. He was too scared at first, he was worried the elders would raise themselves from their graves to scold him. Not because they would be like zombies in the movies, but he was genuinely scared they would disapprove of him being with their daughter. But as he had never seen such a beautiful and joyful face of Brianna, Lucien did not have the heart to spoil her fun.

So, he decided to join the fun.

“Babe, I swear, even if they wake from their graves and say they don’t want me to be their son-in-law, I am not letting you go!” He feigned aggrieved, pouting as he spoke his mind.

His trick must have worked because Brianna laughed even more gleefully. Then she cleared her throat and after a few deep breaths, clearing all her giggles out, she spoke smilingly.

“I don’t know why you’re so eager to be tied down with me,” Brianna shook her head. “I am an orphan. I am literally a killer, although I don’t end one’s life without clear reasons, still, my hands are stained compared to a good man like you.”

“I don’t think I care,” Lucien replied without hesitation. “I can stand by your side whether you want to keep whatever lifestyle you are used to living, or if you want to start a new one.”

“I don’t know how to do the last one you mentioned,” Brianna stated with clear honesty.

“You are smart, you’ll figure things out easily,” Lucien comforted her. “And if ever you need a hand, I have two and I can make more if necessary. I won’t let you fall. Or even if we both fail, we can always try again. A wise man said that every failure is a step to success, so don’t worry about anything,” he added. “And please don’t think you are alone. You may have lost your biological parents in the early days of your childhood, but many people love you like their own. I am sure my mom and dad will be proud to have you as their daughter. My grandpa is already more than proud of you. He had changed ever since he met you. He used to favor me in everything before, but now, I am only second to you!”

Lucien sounded complaining. His words were true. It felt like Brianna was a granddaughter Leandro wanted but never had the luck in his bloodline so she came to him as his granddaughter-in-law. Leandro respects Brianna’s abilities and character. He trusts her wisdom in every decision because Leandro could see they were made with cautious evaluations and calculations of whatever the possible pros and cons. It was a refreshing sight to see her execute everything with elegance and impressive accomplishments. And Lucien even fears that his own grandfather would disown him as the only grandson of the Michaelsons if he displeases or disappoints Brianna about anything and everything in his lifetime.

“I wish to live a quiet life,” Brianna solemnly said after a short silence.

“Just let me know how you want things to be and I will do my best to satisfy you,” Lucien held her hand in between his palms as he sincerely spoke.

“You have done what you believed you had to do, I believe Mom Liz and Dad Leith here would also want you to live life with happiness after all you have been through. They would love to see you have a happy family of your own and we will visit them here with our kids, and have a picnic with them once in a while.”

Lucien stated with dreamy eyes and an extremely hopeful heart.
