Chapter 142: Chapter 142
Lucian waited for Anna to reach his side as she walked on her own, till by the end of the bed. As she slowly moved, Anna was checking her recovery by feeling herself, her wound, and her balance. She had the IV stand to support her walk from the bed to the washroom earlier. This time, she was going to walk on her feet, alone. So she did not rush herself. It would be too foolish to move rapidly and injure herself again in the process. She had to be wise enough to be cautious and recover as soon as possible. Because apparently, she has so many things to do, too many people to meet, people to talk to, people to confront, and many more that had everything, and has anything to do with her parents' death. A tragedy in her family which she is hell-bent on avenging.
The two walked side by side. Lucian was cautious and keenly observant of Brianna's every move. He wanted to make sure she wasn't pushing herself too far. She might have been trained that way. But Lucien wanted to reason out and argue that during those times, it was different because he was not there to stop any of it. But now he is right beside her; she didn't have to do anything beyond her limit.
And he wasn't going to let her to, even if she got mad at him. He can assist her. Whether she thinks she needs it or not. But Lucien did not say anything; he was just preparing his thoughts if he saw anything that he could not keep his reactions for himself and burst out. He prepared even his reasons in his mind. Hence, Lucien was satisfied when he noticed Anna was also cautiously moving; never in any way abrupt, like he was worried she would do.
They walked out the door, side by side, and they saw Clark sitting on a chair in the hallway. It was as if the room Anna occupied was indeed a ward or a patient room, just like in a hospital, where there are few chairs against the wall for the patient's guardian waiting for her to be awake and speak with. It was actually for the medical team to use when they wait for the patient to be attended.
"Doctor Jacobs," Lucien formally called out when he saw the doctor in the hallway. "Is the table ready?" Lucien asked.
Clark replied casually. Even though Lucien used his authoritative voice on him, he did not bother to mind.
"I don't think so. I have been waiting for Nana right here. But she hasn't come to inform us that the table has been prepared?" Clark responded to Lucien's queries, but his eyes were also examining Anna's posture as she walked. He was trying to see if she would show any signs of pain while she walked.
Lucien noticed the doctor staring at Anna, he wanted to pluck Clark's eyes, but the young Michaelson just gave a frown as he continued to walk beside Anna. Her back was to the doctor, so even if the fabric was thin, it wasn't as revealing compared to the front side. There was also a fist amount of her hair left dangling behind her to cover some parts of her back, although there was nothing that needed to be covered.
Lucien did not make a fuss when he noticed that Clark's eyes did not bear any malice. He had no reasons to, anyway. Lucien could see that familiar passion in his eyes, Clark would always possess when he is in front of his patients. This man is so passionate about his profession that no wonder he is being teased about being in relations not with a girl, not even with a human, because Clark Jacobs is said to be in love with his career!
"Okay, then. We will be in the garden. Anna would like to take a walk to exercise," Lucien informed Clark.
"Just don't let her overdo anything," Clark reminded Lucien.
"Thank you, Doctor Jacobs," Brianna uttered.
"I will send someone to get you when the table gets ready," he added. He stood in his spot, still looking at Anna and Lucien's backs, walking out of the hallway towards the front door. Anna was walking like she was not the woman lying on the bed last night with a stab wound to her chest. Although she wasn't walking briskly or at any speed, it was still a good sign that she could get up this soon and walk like nothing had even happened to her within the last twenty-four hours. From behind, the two, Anna and Lucien, looked like a couple, but not to look for intimacy. They were formally walking side by side, not too close but not too far either. Lucien was like a soldier ready to assist whenever Anna might need his help. To grab a hold on to, lean on to, or whatever. Clark's gaze followed them until they were out of his sight, then he went to the kitchen to check on Nana Freya.
In the garden.
There were flowers all around. It was early in the morning, and the sunlight was still warm. Brianna heard Jack was already on the line. She didn't want anyone aside from Jack to realize that she had already gained her memory back. So she was only there to exercise; stretch her limbs if possible. And also, check the place around. Yes! She needed to know the surroundings; she needed to know where could be the possible entrances or exits. Her mind was busy thinking ahead, subtly taking precautions, planning for a way out to survive if any possible situations, scenarios, and chaos may arrive in her condition. Her survival instincts were kicking in again. But while she was busily thinking, she heard something she never expected to hear.
"Anna, I would like to let you know that I am not your enemy," Lucien did not know how he could have the courage to speak so boldly. He was scared of what his mouth was mindlessly blurting out, but since it has started, he did not want to make himself sound like he was not sure of what he was talking about.
Anna stopped walking. She did not respond, not even did she turn her head to look at the man beside her. She kept her silence as if telling Lucien to go on. That was what Jack advised her to do.
"Listen to what the young Michaelson is about to say," Jack's clear voice was heard by Brianna.
Seeing her expressions that she wasn't looking upset or angered, Lucien continued.
"I have heard of what happened to your parents. And I am very, very sorry about that. If there is anything, I can do... And I mean, anything at all... I, We, yes we, would love to be of help," Lucien paused. He took a deep breath cleared his throat before he went on. "I know you think it was my Grandfather who gave the orders to harm your family. But he is not what you were told about him," Lucien spoke with difficulty.
"We are investigating your parents' case file, and we are not going to let any stone unturned. Not only to serve justice, but we would also like to clear our name to you, Anna. We believe we are being led to fight head to head with each other by someone manipulative enough to make you hate our family all your life, despite our innocence," Lucien felt his heart was tightening in so much hatred to whoever is doing all of this. To his family and especially to Anna.
