Chapter 131: Chapter 131

Lucien left to do as he said he would do. On his way out of the room, Lucien saw Clark about to return to the room where Anna was with Jack, and he blocked Clark's way.

"Come here," Lucien dragged Clark to the study room. He let Clark sit right in front of a monitor with Anna and Jack on the screen.

"What's this?" Asked Clark with astonishment. "Is this what I think it is?"

"I don't know what you think of it, but that is what is happening inside the room right now. I need you to watch and rush to help in there if needed. But make sure that whatever conversation you might hear from them, you are not to tell anyone other than me, do you understand?" Lucien gave Clark a stare with an intense warning.

"Where are you going?" Clark asked as soon as he saw Lucien walking away after confirming he understood the order. "Aren't you going to watch with me?"

"I need to prepare a soup for Anna," Lucien replied. "She is good to have some soup, right?" Lucien realized he did not get Clark's advice about giving food to the patient.

"Well, a bowl of soup would be fine for her," Clark answered his queries with a nod. "Why not ask for someone to prepare the food?" He asked again. He was even curious why Lucien was willing to let Jack stay in the room with Anna. He was sure this silly friend of his was overprotective, walling Anna from anyone who would try to get close to her, so why now?

"I promised her I would make the soup, so I have to leave monitoring them to you," Lucien spoke indifferently. Then he proceeded to walk out of the study room. He did not need to inform Clark that he felt the need to give the two privacy. He felt Anna had something to say, which she could not because he was there. Jack's presence did not threaten him; he was more worried it would affect and stress Anna that he decided to give way. Lucien was aware of what Clark was thinking when he asked why he wanted to prepare the soup by himself, and on other occasions, he might have felt annoyed, but not this time.

Clark did not doubt Lucien's words. He was aware that if the young Michaelson said he would prepare the soup himself, there was no way he would present a soup made by someone else to his dearest Anna. Affections returned or not; it wouldn't stop Lucien from doing what he already said he would do. He saw his friend leave the room and closed the door behind him. Clark fixed his eyes on the screen. He even checked if the audio was working because he could not hear anything the two were saying. He stared closer. No one was talking. Or as far as his eyes and ears could tell.

But he was right, actually.

Jack waited for Brianna to say anything. He kept his eyes looking in her face's direction, just in case she would want to say anything for a message or any signs. But Brianna only had her eyes closed, leaning her head on the bed's headboard.

After a while, Lucien came to the study room to check on Clark.

"Can you find Tatum for me? I will keep an eye on the screen until you get back," Lucien requested as he sat on a chair next to where Clark was seated and turned the screen in his direction.

Clark was about to stand from his seat when Lucien asked again.

"Are they asleep, or are they just really too quiet?"

"Can't you call your driver on his phone?" Clark asked as he sat back down again.

Clark's words reminded Lucien he did not need to find Tatum. He can call for his driver to come to wherever he is. He felt silly that his brain didn't seem to be working the way it used to and how it was supposed to be. He hurriedly searched his pockets for his phone and dialed the number. He told Tatum to meet him in the study room as soon as possible. Lucien cut the call when Tatum confirmed he understood what his immediate boss asked him to do.

It was in the wee hours of the night. Lucien would not be surprised if Tatum might be a little delayed responding to his orders, so he just said to come over as soon as possible. The young boss was sure Tatum Elliott would arrive as fast as he could manage.

Then Lucien turned to Clark.

"What did they talk about?"

The young doctor shook his head as he leaned his back on his seat, sitting limply as he joined Lucien watching the screen.

"I even turned the volume into max, but I did not hear them say anything," Clark stated. "If Jack's word is true about her, I won't be surprised if she had expected the room to be under surveillance when you allowed them to talk."

Lucien's eyes did not want to leave the screen staring at Anna, but when he heard Clark's words, his whole body turned to face his friend.

"You think so?" Lucien asked with fear. "Do you think she will hate me and misunderstand my intentions to ask you to watch her through the screen?"

What Lucien said, along with his frightened mien, swamped Clark's heart with dread.

"Did she know it was me watching her?" Clark's eyes bulged wide; they almost popped out of their sockets. He had not seen Anna in her fierce mode, but he did not wish to. According to what he has heard about her, she is not someone

to be played with.

"I didn't tell her, but there was only you and me. I went to prepare the soup; you were the only one left free. Don't you think she will sum things up and assume it was you?" Lucien asked innocently.

Clark was still shocked when Tatum arrived in the room.

"Boss..." Tatum greeted with a single, sharp nod as soon as he walked in.

"Let's go!" Lucien jumped up from his seat, picked the tray he brought in with him, and placed it on the coffee table.

Then he turned to Clark, who was still shaken in fright. "You stay for another five minutes before you follow us, okay?"

Clark jumped from his seat and rushed to the door.

"No, you come after five minutes; I will go check my patients," Clark declared without waiting for Lucien to stop or retort him. The young doctor was gone even before Lucien was able to pick the tray with a bowl of soup in a small porcelain pot with a lid to keep it warm.

"Where did he go?" Asked Lucien mindlessly. He knew Clark had left, but he was unsure where the doctor went.

Lucien secured the tray in his hold and glanced at Tatum, who held the door open, knowing his boss was about to walk out of the room—then paused by the door before walking by Tatum.

"Anna is looking for you," Lucien announced.

Tatum curtly nodded at his boss' words. Lucien continued walking, with Tatum following behind him. The latter was not surprised about what Lucien said; he was more stunned to hear the patient had recovered soon from the poison she was ingested with. But then, knowing it was Anna, Tatum did not doubt she would walk out of her situation victoriously sooner, not later. And she must have been looking forward to hearing anything about the man with Blade, Tatum's thought has gathered.

Tatum has been with Wesley the whole time, except when he asked for someone to watch over him as he got washed up and had his meal.
