Chapter 79: broken bonds

Isabella and the rest walked over to Emily. Emily smiled at them “ well, I decided to stand up for the truth ” she said.

“ I'm glad you did, ” Isabella said, returning a smile.

Chantal walked over  “thank you so much Jason and Isabella, I will forever be indebted to you and Emily I want to specially thank you for standing up for me without knowing me ” she said with glossy eyes.

Emily hugged her “ it's okay Chantal, you are free now ” she said.

Chantal nodded “ I think this is it guys, I will be going back to my hometown tomorrow. Bye ” she said in a sad tone.

“ You will come visit when you are free, right? ” Isabella asked.

Chantal shook her head “ I don't think I will ever have the guts to face this town ever again I guess this is goodbye for good ” she said walking off.

“ What a poor thing, ” Isabella muttered.

Lawyer Lawson trample over, “ Emily you are such a brave girl, I know it must have been very difficult for you to testify against your brother in court, I must say you did a tremendous job if only they were many youngsters like you ” he genuinely complimented her as he patted her on the head.

“ Thank you sir,” she said with a polite smile.

“ Thank you Mr Lawson for showing up, ” Jason said as they both shook hands.

<At the other side of the courtroom>

Mrs Anthony slumped back on her seat as tears slid down her cheeks, just then lawyer downs walked over to their direction with his briefcase and his head lowered.

She abruptly stood up and yanked his collar roughly “ you thief you said we have high chances winning the case, you promised me that we have an upper hand what happened then, how did my son end up in jail ” she yelled.

“ Calm down madam, I didn't no they had so much evidence against your son ” lawyer downs said embarrassingly.

“ You know what, return all the money I paid you on this case ” she demanded furiously.

“ ma'am, there's a no refund policy, how can I give it back you are speaking as if your son was never guilty of the crimes in the first place ” he said and briskly walked out the courtroom.

On his way to the parking lot he bumped into someone and he raised his head only to meet the smug smile on lawyer Lawson's face.

“ You know Lawyer downs there's a reason you were given this name. It suits your profession a lot, you will always be going down the drain ” he said as he chuckled and walked past him.

Lawyer Downs glared at him fiercely like he could devour him instantly.

<Back inside the courtroom>

Mrs Anthony marched forward and pulled Emily, immediately she turned around the only thing they heard next was ” smack!!smack!!, How dare you insolent child “ Mrs Anthony kept hitting her on the face.

” Mom, what did I do wrong, my brother, was in the wrong here  “ Emily said in a pitiful tone.

” Emily how could you go against your own brother for an outsider, you sent your brother to jail for heaven's sake “ Mrs Anthony said furiously.

” Mom, I'm doing all this to help my brother become a better person, “ she said as tears were about to come out of her eyes.

” don't call me mom “ Mrs Anthony yelled at her.

” Dad, “ Emily said with a hoarse voice as she turned to her father.

” Emily, why did you do that? The law is not a toy. Do you think your brother can survive long in  jail? “ he asked as he also raised his voice.

” Dad, are you supporting mom, you know fully well that my brother is guilty“ Emily said.

” Look, from today onwards I and your father have nothing to do with you. I'm sure you must be glad that you have broken our family“  Mrs Anthony said as she pointed her index finger at Emily.

” Honey, we don't have any kids again. '' She sobbed and Mr Anthony patted her back and like that the middle aged couple left the court without turning back to look at their daughter who was on the verge of losing her mind.

Emily slumped on the ground she hugged herself and buried her head on her thighs completely huddling at a corner as she wept bitterly.

Isabella sighed and sat next to her on the ground, ” look Emily I'm really sorry if I knew this was how it's gonna turn out I wouldn't have asked you to testify at first “isabella said sadly.

Emily raised her head ” you don't have to apologise all this was bound to happen “ she said with a cracked voice.

Isabella signalled the rest to leave and they nodded knowingly that if they were to stay Emily might feel quite embarrassed to hangout with them in the future.

Alexander stared at Emily and one could see the sadness and hurt in his eyes, ” Alex. Let's go “ Nancy pulled him forcefully.

This was the first time he had seen Emily this way. She had always been a strong girl,but today infront of everyone she was crying badly like a child, his heart really ached for her and he felt like giving her all the best life has to offer.

>MILES RESIDENCE>

” Alex won't you come down for lunch “ Nancy said as she pushed the door open.

” can't you go down by yourself?  He said already getting annoyed.

“ are you still angry because I didn't let you go to her? '' Nancy said with a loud sigh  and Alex remained silent.

“ Look, if you keep going to her everytime she needs you then you will never have no worth in her life ” Nancy said in a domineering tone.

Alex thought for a while and Nancy was indeed making so much sense.

Since the time they had gotten back Isabella noticed that Jason has been absent minded.

“ Jason, is there something you aren't telling me? ” Isabella asked as they lay on each side of the bed.

“ Like what?” he asked, seemingly interested.

“ I don't know….. you have been blanking out and you ain't paying attention to me ”she said as her gaze left the ceiling and back to his face.

Jason remained silent for a while contemplating on if he should ask what was going on in his head.

Isabella kept staring at him in anticipation to hear what he was going to say.

“ Bella, tell me the truth, do you have any sort of feelings for Caleb? I promise I won't get mad, it will relieve me from thinking so much ” Jason said.

Isabella understood immediately “ you must be thinking this way cause I had looked sad when that old incident was brought up. As a human and a young girl who was in love, back then I had given all my heart and I really trusted Caleb more than anyone and I didn't see a day where he would have another affair behind my back. I was shattered and hurt seeing them making out right in front of me and I had decided never to love again. I felt every guy out there was no different from Caleb  and not so long this thing happened to a friend in highschool ” she said as her gaze returned to the ceiling.

“ And what was that? ” Jason asked interestedly.

“ I had this friend in school,  she was in a relationship and they were both crazily in love with each other after a year of dating, he demanded it was time they get intimate and with no hesitation she agreed after giving her first time to him, they kept up and his attitude towards her changed gradually till they both parted ways. He went ahead to say to her that  she was boring and wasn't good in bed, and he was  tired of having one same meal, like that wasn't enough for him he sent photos of her nude pictures on the school platform.” Isabella said.

“ What a scumbag, ” Jason muttered.

Isabella turned to him “ look Jason, after that incident I came to know a lot. I know girls whose boyfriends have broken up with them, saying they were tired of having one same boring meal everyday and then they jump to the next lady and I guess this is the actual reason I have been hesitant to get intimate with you. I can't imagine you leaving me. I'm scared and I don't want it to happen ” she said sadly.

Jason held her cheeks “ stupid! How can I stop loving you,I will never find you boring. I know you will be good in bed too ” he said naughtily.

Isabella laughed and hit him on the chest “ when did you start seeing the future huh? ” and Jason used the opportunity to pull her to himself.

“ Bella, the only thing you need to do for me is to be happy and I will take care of the rest ”he said and captured her lips.

“ uhmm ” she said softly as they kissed.

“ Jason should we…… ”she said as she broke the kiss.

Jason smiled “ should we what? ” he asked purposely.

“ Why are you being silly? ” she said, acting coquettishly.

“ I have decided to wait till we get married ” Jason said.

“ But..….“ before she could go far he cut her off.

” Don't worry I won't let you get down from bed for a week starting from our wedding night. Now go to sleep. “ he said with a sinister wink.
