Chapter 11: Chapter 11
2012
Reminder: This chapter picks up from where Lucas attacked Jeremy because he found out what exactly happened.
PEARL'S POV
“Jeremy is mad at you, you know,” Aurora whispered to my ear during physics class. I turned to look at her strangely.
“Why? I have done anything,” I whispered back.
She lifted up her textbook before she brought out her phone to text me. I watched as the words she was secretly typing formed into something.
“He’s been mad at you since yesterday. You saw how he ignored you this morning, I asked him and he told me it’s because you told Lucas Anderson about what he did,” My eyes went wide as everything made sense to me. Still, I was confused.
I took her phone from her and typed. “I didn’t tell Lucas anything, I swear,”
“Then, how did he know it was Jeremy who pushed you?” I was quiet before I shrugged my shoulder.
I couldn’t tell on Lyla like that. It was definitely her who told Lucas about it but I still don’t know what sort of relationship they have and now, that relationship was destroying mine. I turned to look at Jeremy at the back and saw how he glared at me before looking away.
After classes, I tried approaching him to let him know I didn’t do it but he didn’t give me any attention, he almost hit me with his shoulder as he walked past me as if I was invisible. I went to look for Lyla immediately after classes and dragged her into the janitor’s room.
“What did you tell Lucas?” I asked her immediately.
She shrugged. “I told him the truth,”
“Why?”
“Because it’s the truth. It’s not like I lied to him or something,”
“What if he starts bullying Jeremy? I don’t care if Jeremy hates me now or not but I’m worried he might get on the wrong side of that devil,” I nagged.
“Jeremy doesn’t hate you, he’s just mad at the situation. Don’t worry, I told Lucas to leave him alone,”
I stared at her in disbelief. “How close are you guys?”
“Who?” She asked
“You and Justin Bieber,” I sassed angrily. “You and Lucas of course,” I said, gritting my teeth.
“We’re not really close but we’ve known each other for ten years,”
“What? Ten fucking years, this is unbelievable. I, Aurora, and Jeremy talk about this guy almost every day insulting him and all that and you know him more than we did and yet, you said nothing,” I yelled.
She folded her hand against her chest. “You’ve had a crush on him for two years and yet, you still say bad things about him, how are we different?”
“That is two different situations and that is totally unfair, I have a crush on every member of BTS, Lee Min Ho, Justin Bieber, Harry styles and that doesn’t mean I have a relationship with them,”
Her hands dropped from her chest at that moment.
“I’m sorry,”
“That’s unacceptable. You owe Jeremy an apology, not me,” Angrily, I walked out of the janitor’s room and went to class. For the rest of the hours I spent in school, she tried getting my attention after classes the same way I tried getting Jeremy’s attention after classes and it was like a train of attention.
I left school earlier than others because Aurora complained of a severe headache and after the school nurse attended to her, I was advised to take her home. I called both of our parents and none picked up, so I had to take her home myself and if she had not told me she was feeling better, I would’ve taken her to a hospital myself.
Hours later, our parents arrived home and my mom cried a bucket, complaining about how she wasn’t there for her daughter and all sort of words that makes me wants to puke. When I complained about it, she increased the volume of her cries, nagging about how unfair it was that one half of her twin was a devil incarnate and a heartless beast, I just rolled my eyes at her dramatic self and left the room.
#Come outside# I shivered as I read the text from Lucas
/Why?/ I asked.
/Be out here in five minutes or I’ll knock at your door and tell your parent about your little secret/
What? I groaned as I stood up from bed unwillingly from the fear of Lucas Anderson. I sneaked out of the house before my parents could notice me and as Aurora was sleeping already, it was much easier.
He was standing beside his car as I walked out in a pair of washed jeans and a yellow hoodie that probably cost my entire house.
“Why are you here?” I hissed.
“Get in, Sil” He gestured to the car. I ignored the name he just called me.
“No, I won’t,” I replied.
He nodded. “Fine, you’ve let me with no choice,” He began walking towards the house and almost crying, I ran into the car and closed the door so loudly he could hear it.
That made him turn back and walked into the car as well.
“Your seatbelt?” he asked and I quickly fastened the seatbelt.
“Where are you taking me?” He smirked instead of responding.
“For real, why am I here?” I queried.
“Why do you think?” he cocked an eyebrow.
Tension set in and so did fear. I didn’t bring my phone and I could’ve texted someone and made it my last call, at least I won’t die without a trace and someone would know I was about to be killed by Lucas Anderson because I ruined his jacket.
Help me, Lord! Forgive all my sins and let me make heaven! Forgive me for adding more salt to mom’s pasta just to get back at her for hitting my head. Forgive me for painting my dad’s phone pink, irregular pink because he complained about my result, and please forgive me for changing my grade from D to A just for five minutes of peace.
“You should see your face right now,” Luke stated and I realized he had stopped in front of a store.
“Where are we?” I asked.
“Are you dumb? Can’t you read?”
I stared at him in disbelief. “Let me rephrase the question, why am I here?” I asked.
He brought out his wallet and stretched some dollars at me. “Get me a pack of cigarettes,”
“What if I don’t want to?” I asked him.
“Okay,” He replied, pulling his hand back with an evil grin. Quickly, I dragged the money from him and entered the store.
The lady at the store refused to sell the cigarette to me without showing her my ID so she would know I’m eighteen years. I almost cried out in frustration but instead, I let my eyes water as I lied to her that my father had an addiction and if didn’t bring the cigarette home, he might go crazy.
“That’s really bad. I’m so sorry you’re going through that,” She looked at me pitifully. I nodded, cleaning the crocodile tears from my face.
“Thank you,” I told her as she stretched the cigarette pack to me. I paid her.
“You can come here at any time if you need anything,”
“I will, you’re so nice,” I cried again as I walked out of the store. I prayed to God she wouldn’t be a distant cousin or relative because if she ends up being one, it’s likely my father sends me to the desert and watch me die.
I walked out of the store and threw the cigarette through the car window at Luke.
“I must have underestimated you, Augustus,”
I gave him the middle finger, “Don’t you ever use me like that again,” I warned him.
