Chapter 10: Chapter 10

Pearl's POV

“Do you want me to repeat myself, Pearl?” He demanded. I was still standing fixated on a spot. I tried finding words to say but I couldn’t. All I could think of was how he laid claim on me just as he did years back.

“Yes,” I swallowed hard.

He stood close to his desk, leaning a little bit against it for support as he stared at me. We both kept on looking at each other for what appeared to be a few seconds.

“We have a meeting to attend, get ready,” He finally repeated and I heaved a deep sign of relief. I stood my ground and I won this time.

“Yes sir,” I answered.

“Meet me outside in five minutes,”

“Okay, sir,”

He suddenly glared at me and instead of wondering about what I’d done wrong, I walked out of the office, closing the door firmly. As I walked into my office, bitchy Charlotte was sitting on my desk, hands folded against her chest.

“How was your little charade of disgrace?”  She grinned widely. I cocked an eyebrow, trying to understand what she mean, and then, it suddenly clicked, she had lied about Luke needing my attention at his office and now, I’m stuck with him for the next few hours because of her.

“It was indeed a charade of disgrace,” I replied, letting her think she won this time.

“Good. I hope you learned your lesson,” She tapped my shoulder before walking out of the office.

I hope you learned your lesson! I mimicked her before picking up my bag, a small book, a pen, and a small bag of chips. I stuck the chips into my bag as I walked out of the office.

I waved at Rose as I passed the reception and even though she couldn’t wave back, she smiled and nodded. I smiled back. As I walked out of the door of the office building, Luke’s car was parked right outside, his window was down and he frowned as I opened the front door.

“Where’s your driver, Mr. Anderson?” I requested as I settled into the car.

“I don’t need one,”

I scrunched my face up at him. “I thought rich people can’t do without people like that,” I snorted.

“The same way your poor father can’t do without one,” I glared at him.

“Don’t you dare talk to my father that way, Lucas?” I warned him.

“Or else what, Sil?” He began moving his body towards me until his face was close to mine. His nose was conveniently touching the tip of my nose and my breath hitched at that moment. Thinking he was about to do something stupid surprised me as he grabbed the seatbelt from behind me and dragged it across to fix it in the seatbelt hole.

He smirked. “What went through your head just now?” I turned to face the window out of embarrassment. “You have a dirty little mind, Sil,”

Angrily, I turned to face him. “Stop calling me Sil, my name is Pearl. Either you call me Pearl or Miss Augustus,” I instructed me. When he turned to look at me, I couldn’t recognize the look on his face.

Throughout the whole journey to the building where the meeting would take place, Luke didn’t say a word and neither did I. I kept on looking out of the window and I couldn’t care less about what he was doing. We got to the building and he asked me to stay in the car till he was done. He parked right outside the gates of the building and before I could question him, he got out of the car and the gate opened itself for him.

For the next two hours, I was outside the building in his car with the Ac on while he did whatever he wanted inside, I had to text Lyla before I died from boredom and loneliness. She called me immediately.

“Hey, girl, what happened? I heard you got a job from Aurora,” I trust my sister to feed Lyla with all the information on my behalf.

“Yes, I got a job,” I replied lazily.

“That’s really great. I know you’ve always wanted that and I’m so proud of you right now,”

“You wouldn’t be proud of me if you knew who I’m working for,” I told her.

“Who?” She asked. I could’ve trusted Lyla with such an important issue but I just can’t trust her mouth and I learned my lesson in high school.

“Don’t worry about it. It’s not something bad,”

“Are you sure? If you need to change your job, you can tell me, I’ll talk to my brother,” I watched as Luke finally came out of the building with a lady wrapped around his body like glue. I smiled weirdly as it occurred to me that the bastard left me here for more than two hours just to be with a woman.

The girl soon kissed him and cleaned the stain of her lipstick while they smiled at each other.

“Pearl, are you there?” Lyla asked from the other end of the line.

“I’ll call you back, bye,” I ended the call.

Soon enough, Lucas entered the car and I fastened my seatbelt as he started the car. I didn’t say a word but I was angry, I was so mad that I could throw a resignation letter to his face and slap him squarely on that same stupid handsome face of his.

I fucking hate that face.

“I can feel your anger,” He stated. I didn’t turn to look at him. “Why are you angry, Pearl?” He asked.

“Angry? Am I supposed to be angry? Do I even have that sort of right?” I spat.

“Is this because of the girl,”

I was stunned. “What? I was left in the car for more than two hours and you think I’m mad because of a skinny bitch who kissed you,”

he furrowed his eyebrow. “I didn’t mention kiss,”

“I don’t care,” I shook my head. “I can do anything right now to be free from you. Getting married to an old rich man is a very suitable option for me right now,” I vented my anger at everything.,

“Sleep with me then,” He suddenly said.

“What?” I yelled.

He stopped the car at the side of the road and unfastened his seatbelt. He held my face suddenly, his lips so close to mine.

“Sleep with me and I’ll do whatever you want,” He placed a quick kiss on my lips while my eyes were almost removed from their socket.
