Chapter 63: Chapter 63
-61-Her weird behavior.
"Don't let anything affect the love you have for someone, even if you go separate ways or whatever may happen, you should always care about them." [Christian]
....
"Are you sure Honey? I can accompany you both if there is a problem?" Christian asked suspiciously. As he noticed Her eyes fell on the window, then the kitchen, and then the entrance but not him when she was speaking the words to him about going out. her body language was too strange to not notice. Her eyes fell on the ceramic plate and they narrowed in worry to see him asking her in suspicion.
'Are you lying to me, Riley Brown?'
She tried to think of something that could save her from telling an untruth to him yet would be compelling enough for him to believe her. She couldn't believe she could think something like that.
"I. Mom. It's her old friend. And I just think it would be bothersome to take you there. Since there. Eh. There will be questions about you. I. I don't want to embarrass you." She told him as slowly as possible. There was a slight quivering in her voice. Her words were a little harsh for him to accept. He inhaled a deep breath and clenched the hands that were under the table.
'Till when I am supposed to get insulted for my fake identity. Oh, God! Please give me the patience to keep it in!'
His eyes narrowed dangerously as he stared at her while she averted her own. Just quietly eating. 'It was cruel of her to say things like that. But she knew the second reason will not only hurt him, but it will also make him angry.
Exhaling, Christian loosened his hands and spoke with a fake smile on his face.
"Okay. I understand. But please make sure to call me if you are late or encounter any trouble. I will try to be there as soon as possible."
It made her more guilty that she had mistreated his goodwill like that. Standing up, she walked by his side and placed one hand on his shoulder. Mumbling.
"I will do that."
After her words were over she bent down kissing him on the cheek.
His eyes that were furrowed instantly loosened along with his nerves. After kissing him she walked towards the room to get ready swaying her hips from side to side. But then as if she remembered something. She stopped. Turned back. While he pretended to eat making it look like he wasn't the one who was watching her like a show just a second ago.
"Mindy." She called his name and he looked up at her automatically. His fake name sounded sensual to him.
'Is she deliberately turning me on? Or I am imagining things.'
"Please remember to take a glass of milk before sleeping otherwise you will have to suffer from acidity again. And, Don't wait for me to come back, because I will be taking the key with me. Although I will try to come back as early as possible if by any chance we get late I will inform you about it."
A small smile returned on his lips after she finished speaking. He nodded at her and then said.
"Okay. But remember, what I said earlier, it doesn't matter if people will ask me questions. I don't care about them. If you encounter any trouble, I am just a call away."
His caring behavior made her feel warm all over.
'You are a cruel woman Riley Brown! You insulted the man is ready to take insults on himself just for your sake.'
Her subconscious was right this time. And she exhaled looking at his handsome face. Turning around she walked up to the room and changed her clothes hastily into simple clothes. A white shirt and jeans. Finding her clutch she ducked her hand under it pulling out the lip balm. And applied it on her lips carefully which turned from Chapped to moisturized in a few seconds.
Suddenly the doorbell rang and she jumped from her place, her heart leaping into her throat as she ran towards it in hope that Mindy would stay seated or won't open the door. Yet he was one step ahead of her, he had already opened the door and was greeting her. She saw them talking about something, though her mother's expression was not that good she managed to smile at him.
Nervously she walked up to them. And hearing the sound of footsteps they both paused whatever they were talking. Her mother looked at her expressionless while Mindy turned back to look at her.
He smiled and complained."Hey Honey! Mom is not coming inside please ask her to at last have a coffee with us before you leave. Maybe she will listen to you."
Hearing his words she breathed a sigh of relief. I am saved just by such a small margin.
"No Mindy. I promise to have it next time, but this time I am in hurry. Hope you can understand." Just when Riley was going to answer him, her mother responded to it for her. And for that she was grateful. Her black eyes were filled with a sudden anxiousness that she understood was because of the news she broke earlier. Riley could even admit she didn't know her mother would react like that. Otherwise, she would have just told her face to face.
"Oh. Okay, Mom. Since you are promising I am going to let you leave without coffee but there won't be next time."
"There won't be! My son. It's a promise from a mother to her son."
The word son created ripples of happiness in Christian. Only the people who had lost their parents know the value of having even one. And he was one of them. A genuine smile spread across his face.
Milly's impatient voice made her walk forward. "Come on Riley. We are getting late."
"Bye Mindy. Take care." Riley said waving her hand from outside. And he smiled at her action. His hand followed her action. As he yelled.
"Bye Mom. Bye Honey. Call me if there's anything wrong!"
"Bye Son! We will."
