Chapter 27: Chapter 27
-26-Two months later.
"Your past is not a threat, it's what brought you to me." [Christian Evercast]
The sky seemed to be clear after pouring the whole night. Finally, the rays of the sun came through the window of their bedroom directly glittering Christian's face. Waking him up from the sleepiness. He looked back from the bed reading time aloud. 8:00 am.
The last two months had been like a dream for him. It felt like they were over even before the time. two months ago since he had met his father-in-law. After he had laughed his ass off on Christian's destiny and even sitting on his couch. Of course, he didn't felt any better Stephen had said, "Karma is a bitch." Without the knowledge of the man he was laughing at was his dear daughter's husband.
After that, His behavior had changed drastically towards him he had tried to pressurize him to work in his company after getting healed. But he had outrightly refused him with the same excuse of self-respect. Honestly, he was done using the same excuse again and again.
Anyways, Christian knew his father-in-law was a cunning man but his hate for him had led him to believe his words without further ado. But he still knew he will investigate the scene he had told him. Though it wasn't a big problem. He will instruct the restaurant owner near his home to make a story out of it.
They have had dinner prepared by his wife, where Stephen Brown has shown his acceptance towards him through small gestures. It caught him off guard when he had placed rice in his bowl. But he hadn't let it show on his face. For he knew the man could have some ulterior motives to judge him. The entire dinner his smile was a little stiff considering his parents were no more. it was peaceful. But more than that it felt like a family reunion to him. Which in turn made him miss his parents more than anything.
The way Stephen was talking to her daughter made him realize why he didn't accept his marriage proposal. Stephen Brown adored his daughter and it was seen in the way he behaved near her.
By the time, they were done he had specifically asked him to see him off at the door with the crutches.
"You are a good man beggar. Also, thank you for saving my daughter. I owe you my life. And I promise I will fulfill your one wish anytime as my way of thanking you."
"Thank you for the compliment sir. But I must protect her since she is my wife. You don't have to thank me for it. And you don't have to fulfill my wish. My only wish was Her."
"Okay, I understand young man. But I will still ask you to come and join me at the company. Since I am already old and Riley doesn't have any interest in the business. It will help me a lot and I will be carefree that I have done something for my daughter."
"No sir. My self Respect won't allow me to do that. I love Riley, not her money. I hope you can understand."
"But young man, it's really hard to find a job in New York City. Please think once again. And if you do, you can come to find me here." Saying that Stephen had left his business card to him and had gone to the car.
In these, two months he had completed all the rehabilitation exercises that were necessary for treating his broken bones. So now his injuries have almost healed and it was all due to his dear wife. She had done everything in her power to help him recover. And he will forever be grateful for her care.
In the last month, however, his sister had got to know about his accident from his best-buddy Andy. And when she had arrived at his home. She had thrown everything at him cursing him to death. She would have hit him too if he wasn't sitting in a wheelchair. She was almost on the verge of crying. More than anything, she was hurt. Emma Evercast was a strong woman. She had faced whatever life has thrown at her with grace. Even at their father's death, she hadn't shed a single tear. She was the one who had arranged his funeral. And had held herself accountable to do everything on her own. So seeing her cry made him realize it was a mistake on his part to keep his accident news a secret. The sister who had practically raised him like her own child was on the verge of her breakdown. Just so, because she wasn't present to help him in his weakest moments. He was guilty of that and had asked for her forgiveness.
When she had finished showing the grievances he had engulfed her in his arms patting her head repeatedly begging to be forgiven. While she stood there, her hands falling limp on either side of her body.
For what felt like an eternity to him, we're only a few minutes when she had finally returned his hug.
Even though he had done that out of concern. It was proven to be futile. It was better to tell her before than see her breaking down. He swore to hide anything from her at that moment.
"Oh, you are awake?" He turned his neck towards the door as soon as he heard her voice. There she was on the door wearing a pink apron and with a mug of steaming coffee. Making her way towards him.
"Ah. Yes." He answered with a smile on his face. She was doing the same for the last two months. Preparing a bed coffee for him just when he woke up. Warming his heart more than it already was warmed.
Placing it on the table beside his bed, she kissed his cheek with a smile.
"Morning Mindy. Have it before it gets cold."
Smiling, he grabbed the mug "Thank you, Honey."
"You're welcome."
The relationship between them had turned into an amazing version of friendship.
