Chapter 9: Chapter 9
~Akeyla's POV~
"Where exactly are we going, Brenda?" I whined as I stood in front of the mirror staring at the blue gown Brenda has been forcing me to wear. We had returned from the boutique to her house almost an hour ago and we were still not ready.
She smiled and took the dress from me before she held my shoulders as she stood behind me.
"I was going to take you to a club but there is a change of plans."
I sighed. Where else has she decided to take me to now?
"We are going to a party!" She screamed loudly with excitement written all over her face and I winced at how loud she was.
"A party? What party?"
"It's a birthday party..." She answered with a smile. "Now put on your dress and stop wasting time. "She waved the dress in the air.
I took the dress from her and sighed. "You only arrived recently and you are already invited to a party?"
She shrugged. "It's not my fault that I too beautiful and sexy. Everybody wants me."
I chuckled and shook my head at her words.
"I hope it would not be too rowdy?"
"I don't know but I don't think so. Not everyone gets to attend such a party." She replied before she walked over to sit on the bed.
I turned to her. "What do you mean 'not everyone '? Is there something you are not telling me?"
She smiled, "Relax baby girl. It's the birthday party of someone I know. We are not even that close and she's actually very annoying but it would look somehow if I don't go."
I shook my head. I couldn't believe this friend of mine was attending the birthday party of someone she was not even close with, someone she found annoying!
I turned to the mirror and stared at the blue gown again.
It was a really expensive gown and despite my efforts in trying to stop Brenda from buying it, she didn't listen. It was a long sleeved body hug gown which would stop above my knee and show a little of my cleavage because it has a plunging neckline. It wasn't too exposed but it's sexy.
"That dress would bring out your sexy hips that you must have been covering under those old fashioned corporate wears of yours..." I heard her say and I chuckled. "I am sure you have never attended a party since you were born."
Ahh!! I turned to Brenda abruptly with a shocked expression as if I was accused wrongly.
"And what makes you think that? Of course, I have!"
She crossed her arms on her chest. "When? Ever since I have known you, you have never attended a party before. You would always find one excuse or the other whenever I invited you for any."
I pursed my lips. She was right though, in a way.
"I have attended my co worker's wedding party." I said proudly in my defence.
She burst into a loud laughter.
"To go and do aseobi girl (bride's maid) or what?" She continued to laugh.
I rolled my eyes and turned away from her. I had forgotten how teasing she could be.
"Keyla baby..." She called me by the nickname she had always called me by. "You have never actually gone to a real party before and the both of us knows that." She stood up from the bed. "Get dress, we are already late. I want to go and get something to drink." She said before she started walking out of the room.
"These girls that I have been paying to clean my house while I was in England, they do not even clean it well..." I heard her complain and I turned to see her trailing her index finger along the door handle. "There are still dusts everywhere." She kissed her teeth.
"I am sure it's because of the harmattan whether, it brings in dust very often you know." I said to her.
She turned to me. "Which harmattan whether? They are just two lazy people joor. They want to use me to cash out when they did not even do their job well."
I smiled and shook my head at her. "You are even wasting your money like that. Why employ people to clean the house, is it not better you just cover the furnitures with something to prevent the dusts?"
She shook her head, "No no no, since I do come for visits, I cannot just leave it like that."
I shrugged, "Then don't complain."
She pouted her lips before she opened the door and walked out.
I smiled before turning back to the mirror. I took another look at the gown and sighed. Brenda with her choice of clothes, these are only what high class girls wear, not me.

FEW MINUTES LATER.
Brenda drove quietly while I stared through the tinted glass of the car. It wouldn't hurt to have a little fun. Like Brenda said, I had dedicated most of my time to my work and other things that I had no time for myself.
Since my mom's health was not too strong, I placed it on myself to look after her and carried the house responsibilities on myself. She had tried to assist me but I did not want her to stress herself too much, she had gone through a lot already.
"Don't leave me alone at the party Brenda, I would not know anyone there, remember?"
She glanced at me and smiled. "Of course I won't. I don't like the celebrant anyways." She shrugged.
"So why are you attending when you don't like the celebrant?"
"Well..." Brenda started to say with a smile on her face. "There is this guy..."
I sighed and shook my head. Of course it's because of a guy. Why didn't I think of that earlier?
"You have a crush on someone who would also be there, isn't it?" I finished it for her.
She smiled, "Well... I have been eyeing him for a while now but I haven't gotten the chance to see him because I haven't been in Nigeria. This is a perfect opportunity to meet him, and I can't afford to miss it, right?"
I shook my head at my dear best friend who was going to a party where she did not even like the celebrant but attending because of a guy.
"I hope you are not going to abandon me there when you meet this guy of yours?"
She smiled and turned to me before looking back to the road.
"Of course not. You will also be able to find yourself a hot guy over there too."
I chuckled and turned to her. "No thank you, I am fine on my own."
She shook her head. "Consider it a helping hand from your friend who cares. I don't want you to remain a spinster all your life."
I rolled my eyes, "I am sorry Your highness but I shall refuse." I said with a slight smile and turned away.
She chuckled at my words before diverting into a lane.
"We are here." She announced as she finally stopped the car in front of a mansion.
"This is where the party is? Isn't this someone's house?" I asked as I stared at the huge building in front of us.
Brenda shook her head at me, "Do parties have a special location for it to take place? You make me laugh, Keyla baby." She chuckled.
Just then, I saw a man rushed over to us and from the way he was dressed, he was definitely a security guard.
"Are you here for the party miss?" He asked us as Brenda lowered the tinted glass of the car.
Brenda nodded, "Yes sir, we are."
"May I see your invitation card please?" The man asked.
Brenda nodded before she reached for a blue designed card and handed it over to the man. He looked at the card for a moment before he returned it to Brenda.
"And the other miss?" He asked, referring to me.
Brenda turned to me before turning back to him.
"Oh, don't worry, we are together."
The man did not move but kept staring at me as if he didn't trust Brenda's words.
Brenda sighed. "It stated in the card that you can come friends, didn't it?" She pointed out getting impatient.
The man stared at her for a moment before he nodded quickly.
"Oh yes yes, it did. I am really sorry miss, please you may drive in."
Brenda nodded, "Thank you." She held back the steering and started driving towards the gate while it opened slowly.
Hmm, so much security for just a birthday party. Why not just buy a cake and ask your loved ones to sing you a birthday song? Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, how old are you now, how old are you now? Wouldn't that save you money?
"I know you are already criticizing in that mind of yours." I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard what she said. I smiled and rested my head against the seat. She knew me too well.
I turned to look through the glass at the compound as she drove to park in the garage. There were so many expensive cars parked in the compound and I could already hear faint music coming from inside.
"Let's go baby girl." Brenda said before she opened the door to step out.
I reached for the door and opened it before stepping out of the car as well. My legs wiggled as I stepped out and I had to press my hand against the car for support. I looked down at the shoes Brenda had forced me to wear and sighed. They were good five inches heels! If I hadn't refused strongly, she would have even forced me to wear the one of six inches. I was barely even managing in my four inches shoes that I was used to wearing. I wondered how she managed in her own seven inches heels she she was always wearing.
She walked over to me. "Are they too low?" She asked referring to the heels.
I stared at her in awe as she asked that. Was she really asking me that?
She smiled broadly and took my hand in her arms.
"You would have worn seven inches like me, but you refused. Let's go." She started pulling me towards the entrance.
Please someone remind me how I knew this girl?
