Chapter 27: Chapter 27
~Jayson’s POV~
“We need to start the plans for the building of the resort in Abuja. It had been approved by the person in charge and the team in charge of it had approved it as well, what’s left is your approval. I have the estimated budget for the entire construction. You should sign and let’s…”
I looked up from my laptop to the pair of curious eyes that were staring at me. I tilted my head at my tall dark skinned assistant, Eric, who was still staring at me with curiosity and I couldn’t help but wonder why he stopped talking. Did he notice that I wasn’t paying full attention? The only thing I had heard him say was ‘resort’ and ‘construction’, I didn’t grasp the rest.
I sighed, “What, why did you stop?” I asked him.
“Your attention is definitely not here and it kind of makes me curious. What else would be on your mind other than work? It would definitely be interesting.” He said adjusting his glasses.
Of course he would notice my attention was far away from the meeting, he always paid close attention to the slightest of things and that was one of the qualities that made me employ him. Like he said, it was rare for me to be distracted in a meeting but it was because of this fake fiancée of mine! Who on earth does she think she is?
“Eric?”
“Yes Sir.” Eric answered quickly.
“What rate would you give my looks?” I asked him.
He narrowed his eyes surprised by my question. He looked at the others at the table before looking back at me.
“Sir, your looks?”
“Give me an answer already, Eric.” I urged him with a frown.
“Well…” He adjusted his glasses and moved his face closer to take a closer look at me. “I would rate you a nine and half over ten.” He whispered to my ears before he moved away.
I frowned at him, “Why not give me the full rating then, what’s with the half?”
He shook his head, “I took away the half because there’s always a frown on your face.”
I rolled my eyes at him, typical Eric.
“But Sir, why are you concerned about your look when you should be focused on this contract Sir?”
I turned to him and then to the rest of the board members in the meeting before I looked back to the laptop.
“Oh, uh, can I see the budgets?”
My assistant who did not dare point out that he already shown it to me like three times already, he quickly showed it to me. I took a look at the costs again hoping I would able to understand what the entire meeting was about again and after a moment, I turned back to him.
“If uh… if it’s fine by my father, then lets’ go with it.”
Eric shook his head. “The chairman specifically handed this over to you sir.”
I rolled my eyes and sighed. Why on earth would he hand over the resort contract to me when he would have the final say to everything at the end?
After the meeting, I walked out of the conference room with my assistant following me quickly. He drove me to my house and I saw Harry and Daniel standing in front of my door. I stared at them with a surprised look on my face through the tinted glass of my car. I didn’t expect to see them in front of my door and it surprised me more to see Daniel as well, the dude rarely was seen because of his career. He wouldn’t listen to me no matter how many times I told him to just quit and take over his father’s business instead. Harry held his hand up in greeting with a wide smile on his face and I wondered why he looked so excited today.
I stepped out from the car and walked over to them.
“Mr. CEO…” Harry said teasingly. “How was the meeting?” He asked.
I sighed, “Don’t ask me about it.”
“Long time no see dear friend.” I said to Daniel who kept looking at me with his hands in his pockets.
He smiled, “Don’t make it sound like we haven’t seen in years.”
I grinned and shook my head while they followed me inside.
“What’s with your mood today, Harry? Something good happened?” I asked with an arched eyebrow.
“Shouldn’t you be glad your friend is in a good mood?”
I smiled at him and slumped into my couch while they took their seats as well.
“How has your career been treating you, Dan?” I asked Daniel as I stared at him. He held his calm expression as always and shrugged.
“It’s been busy but okay.” He replied.
“You look like a kid whose lollipop was taken from him. What’s wrong?” Harry asked me crossing his left leg over the other.
I gave him a doleful look before I looked away.
“Who does she think she is?”
My two friends turned to me with a confused expression.
“Who?” Harry asked.
“My fake fiancée?”
“Ella?” Daniel asked and I frowned at him.
“Did you give me another one, Dan?”
He shrugged but didn’t say anything.
“Yes of course, it’s Ella.”
“What happened, what did she do?” Harry asked as he stood up from the chair and started walking away.
I frowned harder. “My dad told me to pay her a visit and I agreed despite the fact that I didn’t want to…” I started to say with my arms across my chest. “Do you know that this girl called me last night to tell me not to come?”
Daniel furrowed his brows, “Shouldn’t you be glad then? You just said you didn’t want to go.” He pointed out.
I tossed my phone on the couch and groaned in annoyance, “That’s not it!”
“What is it then?” Harry asked me from across the room and when I turned to him, I saw him holding a glass of wine in his hand.
“She told me she was going to see a friend and when I told her I would come with her, she told me I shouldn’t and that she did not want her friend to see me.”
Daniel’s expression grew more confused, “Okay? What’s wrong with that?”
“She f**king told me she was ashamed to show me to her friend Dan!” I yelled at him in annoyance. They weren’t getting it.
Harry choked on the wine he was drinking as he burst into a loud laughter. My anger grew the more and I glared at him.
“You think this is funny? My pride just got hurt and you’re busy laughing?”
“I’m sure she did not mean it that way. She probably um… it could be that she was ashamed to introduce her friend to you.” I hear Daniel said and I could see he was trying not to laugh as well. So much for having two friends who couldn’t give a helping hand to their friend.
“I can’t let my friend see you; it would be too um… too disappointing.” I quoted her words the way she had told me with a frown on my face. “That was exactly what she had boldly said to me.”
Daniel smiled, “I am not sure she meant that you are ugly, Jayson. She could mean that you would be disappointed to see her friend.”
“Why are even bothered about what she said, Jayson?” Harry asked as he walked back to where I sat. “If she does not find you handsome, other women would.”
“Is that supposed to make feel better, Harry?”
Harry chuckled, “I already like this girl, Jayson. First, she said you were ill and you that should visit a doctor when you splashed water on her with your car and now, she said you would disappoint her friend.” He grinned as he stopped chuckling. “I bet she would be very interesting.”
“Who the f**k does she think she is?”
“She’s your future wife.” Daniel said with wide grin on his face.
I rolled my eyes at him and stood up to my feet. “You two should get going now, your company is no longer needed.”
I moved over to Harry and started pulling him by the shoulder while he chuckled loudly.
“We are only trying to help to you, Jayson.” He said as he continued to laugh.
I turned to Daniel and shot him a hard glare. “Get your ass off my couch and start moving.” I pointed my finger at him.
Daniel shifted more comfortably into the chair and smiled. “I bet she was talking about your personality. You need to work on that.”
I let go of Harry and went back to sit on the couch before I threw a kick at Daniel.
“So let me get this straight.” Harry said walking over to me. “You are pissed that your future fake wife said it would be disappointing if she introduce you to her friend. I guess it’s shocking to you since you have only received compliments from girls.”
I sighed and moved my eyes to my side when my phone started ringing. I reached for it and answered it. “Yes, Eric?”
“Your father said I should remind you about the family party that is coming up next week. He said you should…”
“How many freaking times are you going to remind me about that, Eric? I’m aware that I have to bring my ‘beloved’ fiancée to the family party, okay?!” I yelled in annoyance at my assistant. This was the fifth time he was reminding me about the goddamn family party and it was really getting on my nerves. Couldn’t this people just give me a break?
“Okay Sir, then I would be rest assured that I do not have to remind you again.”
I rolled my eyes and hung up before I threw the phone back on the couch.
Harry slumped into the couch with an annoying smile on his face. “I can’t wait to meet your fiancée face to face. She already sounds interesting.”
I saw Daniel smiled slightly before he pulled out his phone when he heard a message beep. He typed on the phone for a moment with a smile on his face before he put it back into his pocket. He looked back to me and Harry and furrowed his brows when he saw us staring at him.
“What?”
“Who was that?” Harry asked quickly with all his attention.
Daniel shrugged, “It’s someone.”
“Someone who?” I asked with narrowed eyes.
“It’s a co actor, okay? It’s nothing.”
“Is it a girl?” Harry asked with his eyes showing high expectation. Of course it would be great news; Daniel chatting with a woman and with a broad smile like that? It would be as great as your country winning the football world cup. The last time Daniel was in a relationship was when we were in the university and after he got his heart broken by his ex, he had never been in another relationship with anyone. He had never dated or even hooked up with anyone ever since and I just couldn’t understand how someone could not get over one person. Love sucks.
“Yes, it’s a girl. She’s my partner, okay? Nothing more.”
Harry grinned, “Oh really? She must be really good to make you smile then, who is she?”
Daniel sighed but didn’t say anything.
“It would be nice if you try to date, you know.” I said with a shrug.
“Look who’s talking.” Harry said and chuckled. “Have you ever dated anyone?”
“Of course I have.”
“Only you would define hook ups as dating.” Harry shook his head.
I raised a brow at him, “Are you any better? You have never dated either and your mom keeps sending you on blind dates with numerous women.”
Harry rolled his eyes and tried to kick me but I dodged it. “The woman annoys the hell out of me...” He said referring to his mother. “She never understands when I tell her to let me live my own life.”
I turned to Daniel and saw him staring between me and Harry without saying anything. He caught me staring and he smiled. I shook my head at him and stood up. “What should I get you, Dan? Harry had already served himself as usual.”
Daniel turned to me, “Just get me chilled water, nothing else.”
I paused in my steps and turned to him, “Water, seriously? Do you have any bad past histories with alcohols? It won’t kill you to have some once in a while.”
Daniel shook his head, “Nah, I’m alright. I just need water.”
“Do your fans know you don’t drink alcohol?”
Harry burst into laughter, “Oh please stop, Jayson. You know nothing you say will change his mind.”
Daniel stood up, “What’s wrong with having water?”
Harry continued to laugh before he wrapped his hands around Daniel’s shoulder, “So tell me, who’s this girl?” He pressed on.
XOXO
