Chapter 6: Chapter 6
MR. PATHETIC AND ARROGANT
'This is supposed to be my chance and here I am foolishly throwing it away!' Jason stood and watched her leave. Every single step she took made him hate himself more and more. It was clear that he wanted something tangible. 'What are the odds of seeing someone you have never met before in your dream, only to run into them the next day?' he asked himself an umpteenth time.
If this was to be the beginning of anything with her, then he had to find a way to make amends for the wrong impression made. So, Jason hurried after Jemmy. When she noticed he was running towards her, she took to her heels. But she was no match for an athlete of his caliber. He caught up with the young lady and held her by the hand. "You have got to listen to me."
"Let go of me impulsive fool!" She struggled with him.
"Of course I will after you must have given me a fair hearing. It is not right to condemn a man without one, is it?" The player tried to convince her with a cute smile. His dimples were lovely. But she wasn't falling for it.
"Are you going to force me to listen to your proud and arrogant words? For the record, I will sue you for assault immediately after this madness, so be prepared!" Jemimah frowned.
"By all means, do so! But you've got to hear me out right now." Jason insisted.
Just when she was on the verge of screaming so that someone would come to her rescue, he quickly covered her mouth with his hands. "What is wrong with you, Jemmy? I mean no harm!" He looked straight into her eyes. "I am going to let go of you. But don't try to scream or run, okay?"
She nodded in agreement. But immediately he released her, Jemimah shouted at the top of her voice! She even started running again.
'What a crazy little fox!' Jason thought before running after her again. When he got hold of the woman this time, he didn't let go. "I have not waited this long to say I'm sorry or pretend that I didn't try to entice you with some money," he said calmly. They were both breathing heavily. "Rather, it's because I saw the most intricate wonders of the world earlier."
She lifted her head and stared quizzically at his face while he continued to talk. "I connected with your eyes so much that I wanted to see them over and over again."
Suddenly, they saw six armed security guards approaching. "Let go of that woman and put your hands up where I can see them!" one of them shouted.
"Please, hear me out." Jason whispered to her ears. Then he let her go, knelt down and raised his hands. His ego was bruised. Still he didn't say a word. It wasn't because he was scared of the guards. After all, he was quite influential. This was his way of proving to Jemimah that he was capable of being humble.
Apart from that, he didn't want anything to defame his character at such a crucial time of signing a contract. In no time, the men surrounded him. But when they recognized who he was, their leader said in surprise, "Mr. Jason Sam! What are you doing here with her?"
"Officers, I met this lady in my dream yester night. And today she is right in front of me," he replied. "The essence of my being was disturbed the moment I set my eyes on her. It dawned on me that I couldn't afford to let her go." Then he turned to look at Jemimah. She was lost for words! But he kept on expressing himself. "I tried my best to tell her about it. Perhaps, my manner of approach was terrible. Nonetheless, horrible as it's been so far, I haven't stopped trying."
'Another young rich man being a drama queen!' the chief officer said in his mind. "Miss. Carpenter, what exactly is going on here?"
"A little misunderstanding, that's all." She feigned a smile.
"Then you best handle it yourselves outside the stadium." The man also turned to Jason. "You have no right to be here right now."
"We were on our way out," Jemmy replied.
The guards broke the circle they had formed around Jason and Jemmy. So the athlete and his crush walked quietly until they exited the premises.
"Thanks a lot," he finally said to her. I would have been in big trouble if you said something else."
"That doesn't change anything. Just let me be!" she said. "You have witnessed what I am capable of."
"When you left me during the medical test, I felt so much pain and emptiness." He wasn't bothered by the warning.
"There is a beauty spot behind your left ear. It encouraged me to pursue you. So I abandoned my trip and went out of my way to become a stalker. It is something I have never done before."
"That's because you are pathetic! Who makes such hasty decisions?"
"Perhaps you are right. Notwithstanding, I am alone in this big city as I speak." He noticed that she had become a bit pacified. Jemimah was now paying attention to his words. Her steps slowed down and finally stopped. He saw it as a sign to keep talking. "I befriended your eyes. When they saw me from afar, they gave you away."
She looked at him, a faint smile stretched her lips slightly. "Is this what you tell all your girls?" she asked. "You know what, Mr. Arrogant and Pathetic? Leave me alone!"
Her response left him at a loss for words. Jason was astounded. He stood quietly and watched her walk away.
